please add a "report for trolling "option

scazzman··82 votes·2,777 views

one of the main problems i seem to be running into as of late are the people who aren't outright feeding or afking but do little subtle things to get under people's skin. I:e instalock, stealing farm. baiting 2v1s using pings. KSing. refusing to group during teamfights/nosurrender trolling

i AM NOT referring to a. breaking the meta to experiment. "however please do this in team builders first before you do it in ranked" b. supports/jungles last hitting by accident or taking a little bit of farm to get themselves caught up c. split pushing d. not wanting to /ff because you want to still try to win or see something the guy trying to surrender doesnt e. making a bad play call

i AM referring to a. instalocking a champ because you didnt get your lane b. stealing ADC farm and then following them if they try to farm elsewhere. c. intentionally avoiding teamfights d. spamvoting no on surrender votes with your duo partner to torture everyone still in the match e. pinging assistance while you are at full health in a 2v2 . and then recalling once you get your ally to engage. leaving them in the dust we need a catch all report category for greifing not included under feeding or AET

If you can't fit it in an existing category, it probably isn't an offense.

Most of what you described can fit "negative attitude" or even "intentionally assisting enemy team".

ahferroin74 votes

Read the actual report categories, the one you are refering to is for people who are griefing you for intentionally assisting the enemy team.

Yormaughm1 votes

This is the one I report it under usually with a description. I have had almost every one of those things happen however and I do think people should be banned for it, some of it is outright worse than things you can explicitly report for.

Midder Scray3 votes

The problem is the penalties for negative attitude, which is definitely relevant to a lot of the things the OP said, is like nothing. I'm pretty sure if you get reported for negative attitude, you just get a message saying to stay positive or some shit like that

I think a trolling option, with reasonable punishment, would be great. There are many, many people I've seen instalock, refuse to help their team, and just straight up troll, and none of that stuff is reportable because there's no option to. I'd love to see this option added so it would hopefully cut back on instalockers especially, because there's nothing you can do about people in champ select. There are no options to report people for what they did in champ select. If someone instalocks and refuses to go a different lane because the one they called had been call first by somebody else, that should definitely be a reportable offense, because it's annoying as hell and it does affect actual gameplay once the game starts, because that person has no teamsmanship, which makes it harder to win, and someone who actually called their lane either has to go a different lane or share the lane with the instalocker

And when someone instalocks in my lane after I called it, I'm definitely going to that lane. I called it first so it's mine. Does that affect the rest of the team? Almost always. But it isn't my fault that there's no option to report them for that. If they did add an option for it, it would hopefully reduce the amount of instalockers and other trolls, and also rightfully punish them

Riot doesn't set any ground rules in order to not influence the meta. This results in community rules like pick order in draft that are reasonable expectations, but hard to enforce.

Either you accept the dumb with good or find another game to play. I enjoy LoL and have set my exoectations accordingly.

Midder Scray1 votes

I'm not talking about people who switch up the meta a little bit. If it's in normals, it doesn't matter. If someone wants to go adc Gnar or Teemo jg, that's fine with me as long as they don't feed and then be all like "well gg guys we lost gj mid you fucked us", because that's when I feel they need to be reported

I enjoy LoL too, but the main thing I hate is the toxic community. I'm actually in a game right now where I called top and this Brand was like "i called top but it said blocked so im top". I get blocked from chat all the time too, but I still accept it when someone else called it first, because it isn't their fault League was being stupid as hell and blocked me for no reason. This Brand needs to be reported but there's no option

As much as i like this idea, i would have to vote a solid "No". Solely because the term "Trolling" is pretty subjective and not everyone has the same views when deeming something as Troll-worthy. Some people can take this to extremes and end up reporting people "Trolling" simply because they don't like someone else's playstyle/item builds, champion choices or the like.

And if this does get implemented, what's going to stop people for reporting anyway in that same category if someone is unintentionally feeding, or generally playing badly? and knowing our Automated system, these innocent people could possibly still get punished for it. Ive gotten called a "Troll" plenty of times over trivial matters before and was ever reported by my entire team for bad communication because i choose to go AD Sona Mid and refused to go support even though i called my role before anyone else during champ select. They agreed to let me go mid untill they saw that i locked in Sona and decided to label me a troll for it and force me into the support lane, This troll report system will just make it easier for selfish people to troll you by reporting you as a troll for not doing what they want you to do..

I think it would be safer to just stick to the "Bad communication" and "Abusive language"and "Assisting the enemy team" categories.

Choosing not to surrender is called perseverance NOT trolling. What is KSing? Kill stealing? Lol That isn't a thing..

scazzman2 votes

i just said. not surrendering in itself isn't trolling. however doing it for malicious reasons is

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

KSing can be, but it's rare and doesn't mean what most people think it means.

Blazing Tenshi2 votes

Surrendering is reportable under assisting enemy team, blowing up your own nexus and all.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

I might accept that as a reporting option if the surrender vote had to be unanimous. That way everyone agreed to it.

I've been the one holdout on a surrender vote that passed, and I've been in the 3 when it failed. Neither feels particularly good.

Space Bum2 votes

Way too subjective, especially in a "fun" game environment. People think differently, you should reflect on that.

ahferroin71 votes

Except there is no way to report people who:

  1. Constantly run down lane and die to towers (as in, they click the enemy base on the minimap each time they respawn and do nothing else).
  2. Sit in base and constantly recall.
  3. Actively try to prevent everyone else from getting kills.
  4. Go as a support and then take every single kill and minion from their lane partner. I've had such individuals in almost every game mode (except ARAM, but trolling there is hard), no way to repor thtem, and in some cases got the same person doing the same thing multiple games in a row.
Space Bum2 votes

You are talking about enforcing the meta. There are no rules defining roles. If the support wants to take farm, "technically" that is not punishable and it should not be. The same reason that you can make any combination of roles in team builder. If someone wants to go sup master yi and take farm, it's bad, but if that is the way they enjoy the game they are free to do it. I wouldn't call it trolling, just having an odd outlook on the game. PEOPLE THINK DIFFERENTLY.

scazzman2 votes

im not referring to people who break the meta. im referring to people who maliciously do subtle things to try and annoy your teammates that in itself aren't againstthe rules. but the reason why they are doing them is what makes it toxic

Space Bum1 votes

If I want to play AP roaming Urgot and tax every lane and secure every kill, I can. It would infuriate you. I would probably fail miserably and have an awful KDA. The thing is, the game does not tell me not to do this so I cannot be reported for it.

The game does not say, this is his CS or those are his kills.

You can't come out with a law that says blue shirts are illegal and then go around arresting people before you make it public knowledge.

Making something like this public knowledge would mean that it would have to be included in the tutorial (you can't expect everyone to dig it up from some riot archive or a 3rd party site.) . I mean, to ensure no one ever gets on one of your anal pet peeves the tutorial would probably have to be extended to a 6 week corse.

Faith Breaker1 votes

But people in the game will explain it to you then your next game you have no excuse. Your point is invalid.

Faith Breaker1 votes

They didn't say anything about enforcing the meta. Read before you type.

Space Bum1 votes

He described a support doing things a support should not do. The term "support" or any role only exists in the meta. There are no punishable rules for not following the definition of a role, nor should there be for something that is never defined by the game (the tutorial or tool tips do not define roles. ie there is nothing in the game that tells that person not to take every CS or kill they possibly can.) You might want to take your own advice.

Mellori1 votes

Only exists in the meta? I'm pretty sure when you go into the champion pages and click one of the faces, a thing pops up that shows the info on the champion, and their roles. One of the six Defined-By-Riot-Themselves roles is "Support"

https://i.gyazo.com/261f0657fec194498ba1421ae7e59f04.png https://i.gyazo.com/e090bb2683b3793796665091d295f286.png

Space Bum1 votes

Info about the champ not info about the role

Show me a place in the game that defines the role.

Mellori1 votes

Support by nature is meant to be a -supportive- character that helps the team get kills. I think Riot expects people to know what support means.

That's not even what I was saying, though. YOU said support was only a role created by the meta. It's not.

Space Bum1 votes

The "meta", are elements of the game that are defined outside of the game. The support role is defined by the meta.

For some people this is the first game they have ever played that refers to the term "support", in the way it is used. You CAN NOT, as a company, expect people the know the strict definition that most people would expect you to know, especially to the point where you would punish them. That's some hardcore ignorance.

Mellori1 votes

That's not what you said. You said the support role (you actually said any role) only exists in the meta, when flat-out on the champion pages it says certain champions are part of the SUPPORT "role". You said nothing about defining the meta until I pointed it out, then you changed your phrasing.

And I don't know about you, but any game or life scenario that has the word "support" means helping someone else to further their life or better their life. I know in some FPS games there is a "support" character that just lays out heals and provides ammo, and that's literally all they do. So you said this might be someone's first game with the term support? Well, think of a real-world scenario. Life Support. Life support doesn't take away, it GIVES to a person.

There's not a strict definition, really. Support means help.

You talk about hardcore ignorance but you seem to have a lot of it.

Bro, rito doesn't think trolling is a thing. I've said from the start, they won't do anything to fix the "toxicity" situation until they actually address the causes of it.

Carry2 votes

Sure, can we also get a report option for scripting? It's becoming absurd, I've seen 3 scripters in norms in the past 2 weeks and Riot is choosing to ignore it and keep it hush-hush to prevent people from realizing scripts are a thing. Scripts are a thing and they are a problem. Automatic detection and banning would not be difficult to implement, Riot NEEDS to do something about it.

TNHA Baritone1 votes

Dont you think that if they knew how to do this, they'd do it? Oh lol you forgot that you dont snap your fingers and implement a program that does that.

Carry2 votes

They don't know how to add a report option for "Scripting"? That was my first suggestion and it seems pretty easy to accomplish.

I'm sorry that you don't know anything about programming and for some reason think that this is difficult. It's not. Scripters issue movement and action commands with extremely high frequency with no latency between them. When a Ryze/Cass/Syndra/etc. scripter kites, they move their targeting cursor onto an enemy for a spell cast/attack issue, then immediately issue a movement command in the opposite direction with 0 latency (hence why it's easy to observe these scripters, they appear to cast spells out of their backs while kiting). It's impossible for a legitimate player to achieve this because issuing the move command legitimately would require moving the cursor all the way from the target, to the opposite side of your champion. This introduces latency between the commands that isn't present for scripters. This alone is one simple way to detect the majority of scripters, but there are far more robust ways that would be similarly easy to implement but that I couldn't outline in a single paragraph.

Other games make efforts to detect and ban scripters. This isn't asking for Riot to do anything cutting edge, this is basic shit.

If we want this option we, as a community, have to create our own definition of trolling as it applies in the context of this game, isolate the most problematic behaviors born out of the desire to annoy and distract.

isn't that what the "negative attitude" and "assisting the enemy team" report option are for?

All of you who are supporting this thread are in the wrong, because instalocking is not against the summoners code. Look up riots reportable behavior page and you will see what i mean. If you don't like instalockers, either deal with it, or dont play normals and go play teambuilder because normals lobby is supposed to be a game mode where you dont have to worry about being serious like in ranked. Riot will never make "report for trolling", it sounds so childish and you can get over it.

I like to start with aitem 1056 on Sivir

Im not going into all the reasons why, it works for me.

So I see people not liking that all the time, trust me they let me know... I can see it now though.

"AP Sivir? Report Sivir for trolling."

I have 20 cs at the end of the match, and we lost, must be supports fault, reported.

JG was split pushing but butthurt kids think it was refusing to gorup, reported.

That guy wont FF, he must be duo qued with the other one, ahhh who cares, I WANT OUT REPORTED!

Urgot jg... idk, never seen it before, and we lost, URGOT IS NOT JG REPORTED!

This just wont work, you are much like one of those gun owners that thinks "Well I know what Im doing with my gun, and Im safe, so Im sure everyone else will handle a gun with the same care and experince that I do." Except they dont, what you are capable of being responsable with, is not the same thing the large portion of the 12-15 yearold player base that plays this game everyday can be. It just a tool for harm in the bitter butthurt hands of an emo kid who just lost a videogame.

I hear what you're saying, but this is the exact problem. Riot doesn't want to disuade people trying new things, but some of that experimentation doesn't work either.

Ring on Sivir may have worked in a specific circumstance or against bad players, but it is a poor choice and people should be highly concerned if they see that. It'd be like buying a sword for Leona.

All the reasons this person is saying to report for trolling is ASSUMPTIONS. You cant base a report off of assumption, you don't have physical proof that someone is INTENTIONALLY stealing your farm and what not. You don't know 100% their intentions, there are many times where I've "stole" farm but not for getting my teammate mad, but for helping his lane, push it so he can start roaming and helping others. Learn to deal with it kid, or go team builder, or get out of league of legends and find another game.
