the people who go around silently downvoting "often multiple times on smurfs" are obnoxious. and often. theyre doing it to make it less likely other people see your post

Why are you assuming people are downvoting posts multiple times on different accounts? Even if this happens, I imagine it's rare.

The reason you shouldn't require a post is sometimes, I agree with everything the other comments said but not the OP. In those cases, I don't want to add noise to a conversation so I just silently upvote/downvote.

I think, Scazzman, your opinions are just legitimately unpopular. I've read many of your posts and they are generally rather negative. I would just think that maybe you hold very different opinion than the majority of the posters in this board. I would not assume that there is some conspiracy against you.

it definitely happens. especially in pb&m and if you have an "unpopular" opinion people will downvote spam you to keep people from agreeing with you and/or rioters from seeing your post

its the same tactic republican trolls on yahoo news use. they will spam you with thumbs down if you're not one of them. often with at least 20 bot accounts. so your comment gets hidden

People in PB&M get downvoted because at least 90% of the time, they were in fact toxic and deserve the permaban and people don't want to hear them complain and blame other people.

Doesn't that kinda go against the point of the voting system? I mean I think it's stupid and unnecessary since the forums now have an actual moderation crew, but bumping a thread that could potentially be spam or some other garbage just to downvote it doesn't make sense.

No, it won't show anything about intent as to why someone was downvoted or not. And I also would be fine if upvotes/downvotes were public. However, you have no way of saying why someone downvoted or upvoted a thread. It could be because they legitimately agreed/disagreed or just were trolling. So in that case, I don't see the benefit necessarily of making it public.

I'm sure you won't but some might. Based on your previous comment, I was just saying that it wouldn't show the guys who simply downvote because: "lulz I'm bringing you down"). It would just show who voted and it would be impossible to tell _why _they voted.

If they guy who downvoted wants to express his opinion he is free to do it. Accounts with a ratio of 100+ to 1 of downvotes to comments might be suspicious though.

It's alright to be frustrated man, but letting it show doesn't help you in the slightest. The mature people are able to speak clearly and nicely to someone they hate without showing signs of complete anger.
