What I think the next preseason class rework should be.

bruisers. or slayers. or whatever they're called. the group of champions including Aatrox Irelia MasterYi Nocturne MonkeyKing YasuoTryndamere Bardbloop Jax XinZhao (lemme know if I miss a few) whose sole job it is to dive the backline and smack a few squishies to death with their swords before either dying or nabbing the penta. often building adc items and pushing towers in their spare time, this class needs some changes and I think after the tank update, the next preseason should be the time to do it. now I'm not saying this because I hate any of them (though they can be a nuisance) I say it because they're BORING. let me know if this sounds familiar. step 1: find fight and identify squishies. step 2: use dash into fight. step 3: use any cc available. step 4: proceed to whack the nearest target into submission. step 6: now do the same for any other champions in the vicinity.

this play pattern could really use what the other class reworks did for their respective champions in giving them specific things they excel at and varying ways they go about their murder business.

I'd love to see this somehow varied yet linear class be given some love and maybe changes to make them healthier to play against. as it is now they're a group of moderately hard to kill mobile jack of all trades types that are very bursty against squishy champions, but since all their big burst is tied into auto attacks they also have a fair amount of dps. essentially they kill everyone they see and aren't all that easy to kill because they hit their damage spikes earlier than other champions and can quite happily build several tank items to become tanky initiators should they wish.

Bard?

Yeah, I really don't understand that one. His job is to roam and peel, not dive past the tanks and delete people... Can he? Yes, if you build him to(but then, so can Soraka). But that isn't the job his kit is meant for.

t'was a joke. I had a whole 3 other paragraphs lined up for you to read before you got stuck on that one.

The Last Ballad1 votes

Ah. Thank you for actually meaning it as a joke. Its really hard to tell with the people on this board sometimes, what with some of them saying dumb things with complete seriousness.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

side note though adc bard is one of the scarier things you can find floating around the rift right below top bruiser leona.

The Last Ballad1 votes

It is.

Bard..? K..

when you think about it he hits his 9 meep spike with lichbane lategame he's pretty much an ap dps anyhow.

I feel a basic knowledge of every subclass should be prerequisite to posting about balance, this post being a prime example why.

AmetDeCrypt2 votes

why so. I'm not talking about balance, I'm talking about outdated kits and I have a good understanding of all of them I'll have you damn know, enough to know all of their kits are very similar. even the tank rework that's going on now started out with more varied kits and differing mechanics.

Wukong, Nocturne, Irelia, Aatrox, and I think Xin Xhao are considered Dive fighters.

What you described, or, atleast I believe your describing, are Skirmishers. The "AD melee carries". For this subclass, you listed Jax, Yi, Tryndamere, and Yasuo.

I understand where "My Teams Cost Me" is coming from. Listing Dive fighters with Skirmishers implying they're the same thing is like saying a Juggernaut is a tank. Which is just wrong and irritating if done in a bigoted way, which you haven't. I like what you got, Amet. I also think Skirmishers should be the next in line.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

well maybe I just don't know the intricacies of their kits but they all seem the same to me. ad scalings and builds so auto attacks are potent after initial burst. a dash. a cc. a defensive ability. and yeah next preseason for sure unless it's another ryze rework for the preseason.

Well the difference that defines a skirmisher like Yasuo and a diver like XinZhao would be how their mobility works and where it's the strongest.

Yasuo's mobility works best in combat, using it to flow in and out of fights and confuse opponents.

XinZhao's mobility works best to start combat. Jumping into one target and keeping close to that target.

Now we have some weird ones (like Tryndamere being a skirmisher with his mobility. Though I'd argue that he is going to be reworked into more of a skirmisher). But that's the general thing you can notice in their kits.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

ok difference in dashes. good start but they still just stand in front of a target and whack them to death with their sticks at the end of the day. I think yasuo's kit is the most varied and unique among the group, the way he's encouraged to dance around the battlefield, I'd love to see more things like that beyond the "dash-cc-murder-die" combo that seems prevalent in the group. maybe I'm just not seeing it right, I play support and at any time I could have a totally unique kit to fit into any comp so I'm just spoiled for choice and the bruiser class seems a bit boring in comparison.

Ralanr1 votes

Standing in front and hitting is just melee in general.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

yeah but what I'm talking about is their kits are all very similar and could use some freshening up. tell me a bruiser that you can think of that doesn't have at least one of a mobility tool with sometimes unique mechanic cc sustain or defense auto enhancer

Ralanr1 votes

That's because that's what bruisers have.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

the tanks got reworked for being less samey and linear why are you so against this idea?

Ralanr1 votes

Because tanks were being reworked mainly for performing their basic role too similar. What you're targeting with fighters is the wrong thing, you're targeting what allows them to function basically in melee combat. Not what defines them in melee combat.

Since divers are the next subclass to be updated, it means that Riot will better define the diver class.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

well what defines them in melee combat then? I see nothing else in their kits except these things I have mentioned. also when did riot announce the diver update? and why a small subclass when the mage update was like 20 different champions in different classes?

I already explained their mobility, that's their main difference.

They haven't but it's pretty much going to be the case since they had to choose between vanguards and divers. As for the second part, it's probably because Riot is getting better at dividing their subclasses, but your guess is as good as mine.

mobility? that was part of my problem. they all have dashes with barely differentiated mechanics. let's see... xin has a slow and procs his armor shred, jax... can be flashed? irelia's resets if it kills the target and tell me where that comes into play when engaging in a teamfight. tryndanmere's gets lowered by his crits. aatrox has a knockup. I'm struggling to find unique things about them because it's all really just their "I'm here!" skill to combo into the rest of their bursty dps to me.

Divers are the more mobile portion of the Fighter class. Divers excel at singling out high-priority targets to blitz toward, immediately forcing those targets (and their teammates) to deal with the diver’s presence. Divers are not as durable as the tanks or juggernauts of the world, but Divers can take their fair share of punishment while bringing enough damage to be a real kill threat if left unchecked.

Divers aren't really teamfight engagers. They are more single target focused that usually lack an escape and generate threat by requiring peel.

They are do or die.

Unlike Assassins, Skirmishers aim to shred through any nearby enemy that approaches. Because Skirmishers lack high-end burst damage or reliable ways of closing in on high-priority targets, they are instead armed with situationally powerful defensive tools to survive in the fray, along with extreme sustained damage to cut down even the most durable targets.

Skirmishers are more about weaving in and out of a fight as the fight happens. Being very slippery and hard to hit, but not using that to run away.

I'm not saying that divers do not need an update to help diversify themselves, but there is a difference between divers and skirmishers (and skirmishers imo are probably the last class that needs a rework because they are all pretty unique).

Mysticman891 votes

Those are mostly divers which are a subclass from the fighter class, with some skirmishers mixed in which are a subclass of slayers. So you're not likely to see all of the champs you listed (especial bard but even excluding him) in the same class update, although of course there could be side effects due to item changes and so on.

I do recall divers being something they mentioned as being a strong contender for being looked at, although I don't remember what they were weighing it against (I also don't remember when, so it's possible they already made a different decision, and then maybe divers would be next).

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

I dunno if slayers is a big enough group to warrant their own class update but then again the midseason is apparently only updating THREE tanks so what do I know about scope.

Chaos Milk Tea1 votes

They are melee sustained damage dealers, or melee dps for short. They need to stick to their targets to deal damage and can often trade with tanks due to high attack speed and built in sustain.

Many of them are outdated and need an update, with Warwick being an example of how to get it right.

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

so the preseason seems like the perfect time to do it en masse.

chipndip11 votes

You listed two classes of champions...

...and THEN threw in Bard (making 3)?

AmetDeCrypt1 votes

my god it was a JOKE if you didn't want to discuss the actual post then just go back to your meming.
