What is the point of the new champselect if autofill is getting implimented?

Rito, don't forget how you made the players confused about the difference between new champ select and dynamic queue, which deceived us with the vaguly worded survey to get you guys the conclusion of "majority of the playerbase support dynamic queue".

And now you are adding this auto fill bullshit which literally reverts the existance of the new champ select?

It doesn't revert it, you're still more likely to get primary/secondary, and it's unlikely to effect most players anyway, it's just those high end players who are waiting upwards of 30 minutes for a match that'll have things go quicker.

Those of us in plat and below probably don't deal with 5 minute+ queue times very often regardless of our role choices, and I doubt they'd trigger the autofill thing for 5 minute expected waits.

Well after I realized I get 1 minute queue time as a group of 3 and 3 minute queue time as solo, I already understand the match system is fucked up.

Mysticman892 votes

You realise that's because it's trying to match groups against groups, and solos against solos right?

Solos are tricky since solo supports are a rare breed, while groups have a tendency to include bot/sup pairings. That it tries for longer to find 9 other solos doesn't come as a huge surprise to me. If the system only cared about filling in all the spots to make a match as fast as possible then it'd be weird, but people don't find premade vs non-premade fair usually, so the system at least tries to account for that.

in theory it should take longer to match premades with similar group mmr premades, while solos can be just matched with solo in the same mmr range and it should be easier to find solo players that match than premades that match. But in fact it was the opposite.

That would only be true if the pool size of solos was much much larger than the pool size for groups, since group queues are also going to snag solos from the pool to fill. Also because many groups will queue with a support, it effectively lets them cut in line as the queue tries to pull a support but is required to pull the folks attached to that support as well.

Dynamic queue was built from the ground up to fuck over solo players(intentionally or unintentionally is a different matter). Given that the folks at Riot generally know what they are doing, I believe they did so know what would happen to solo players and deemed it acceptable losses. The alternative is that The designers are morons who don't think through their actions at all, so I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt.

Plat elo here as top/mid I almost always get 5 to 15 minutes, sometimes longer.

That's still not an unreasonable wait considering it's the two most popular roles, and time of day is probably a factor. It's the diamond+ elo's that they intend to target with this, so if you're not in that range, you probably haven't actually dealt with the harsh queue times that they aim to deal with (short of matchmaking connection issues which do occasionally happen resulting in super long queue times even for sup primary 99% ELOs).

I'm a spoiled silly sup/bot person so I'm used to near instant queues (despite plat), but every now and then I'll do bot/mid and that rarely goes over a few minutes.

"it doesn't effect casuals so why should you care about" ~MysticMan89

Ah, the delightful world wheres everyone below diamond is a casual, and everyone above plat is a try-hard.

And I mean scarra seemed to indicate that he'd be ok to concede some role agency to not deal with 50 minute queue times, so the trade off of queue times for role agency may well be viewed as worth it to the extreme mmr folks.
