So how do I beat ahri as Veigar?

MuffledGarbage··2 votes·823 views

I just played a game where I was veigar and the enemy was ahri.

Most of the time I was just farming stacks from a whole minions wave away from ahri.

Ahri constantly ran towards me and attempted to bait my E. When I threw it out she dodged it(pre-6) or SHE ulted and used her W do damage me this usually resulted in her either ulting directly onto me and using her EQ and of course I can hardly do anything to retaliate.

My options against her were to either: -Flash(remember this is on a 5 min Cd) -try to E after she ults(doesn't matter cause she only went for point blank E's and Q's after ulting) -try to read when she will ult and use E then(which didn't matter cause she had flash to substitute for her ult when she wanted to kill me, and she simply used her W ult to do most of my health) -Ask for a jungler gank when her ult is off CD(the jungler never ganked when the ult was off cd) -build a bunch of mr items and lose almost all the damage that you are supposed to do(which is a bad option anyways because my team had a lot of AD and I was the only AP on the team. -try and build movespeed ap items like Luden's to try and dodge the point blank EQ(doesn't work when her model is inside of my model after ulting) -Drop an E on myself to stop her from approaching(only gives me 2-3 seconds of breathing room... every 20 seconds)

So those were all the things I've tried in the past to try and help with the matchup.

In this particular game, because I knew I would be behind after ahri was lvl 6 thanks to her being able to pressure me insanely, I stayed under tower and TRIED to farm while I waited for my Sejuani to gank as well as I asked for the team to group around the 20 minute mark.

The team grouped but Sejuani kept flaming and decided to just stay at fountain. I wasn't even mad that we had an Aurelion Sol Support who wasn't even a Sol onetrick. I wasn't even slightly tilted that I was 3/10/7 by the end of the laning phase. I was tilted that Ahri could out-space me by using her W and ult the whole game.

I really need help in this matchup, just to understand how I can deal with ahri as a veigar main.

Why do you want to kill her? All you have to do is farm till late game.

I think it's more about living her. He kinda out does everything Veigar can do to her. Veigar's about to use his E. She can just Q for movement speed. Once his E is down Veigar will be forced to farm with his Q and hope both Minions are low enough to execute. And Once Ahri has Ult veigar is just dead, unless she is very bad Ahri player.

Ye but every champion is supposed to demolish Veigar early/mid. There is nothing to do about it except waiting late game. You are not supposed to try and get kills , just farm.

If you actually read what I wrote, you would see that I specifically stated that I was trying to farm most of the game.

again, this was said in my OP

so why are you giving me advice that is easily see-able?

Yea but that is the main problem with this match up. Ahri is a good roamer. So while you are trying to farm up she most likely already killed your Bot or Top. And her clear speed is decent with a few items so she can Q a wave to kill them all with a W to finish off the melee minions.

Thats risk of taking Veigar and reason why he is never played in pro play.

So a couple tips, Banshies is an amazing pickup. It will stop her from being able to catch you WITHOUT going in on your face, which is important because it cuts down her options, without lowering your damage output or stacking all that much.

Stand behind minions to once again limit the places she can go to. Now she either has to circle around (very obvious), ult to the sides (reducing her E accuracy by giving you a lot more time to dodge as well as making her W's more likely to hit minions), or ult directly in front of you, between you and the minions.

Now all 3 of these positions can be covered with your E, however unless the Ahri is being very predictable this isn't what you want to use it for. Instead let Ahri ult once, then throw up E around her immediately. The delay on her R will prevent her from getting out of it in time, and the goal is to trap her, not to stun her.

Then just walk away. Her only option is to wait and let you get away (blowing her ult timer) or flash it (blowing a 5 minute CD.)

Now how to zone her off so she can't just ult-charm you instantly. Well the best option for this is actually to just drop your W if she start coming at you straight on. Since she has to walk by her melee creeps to do it you aren't wasting the ability anyways since you will still be farming, and if it does hit her she will be less likely to trade.

That leaves her only options to be circling around the sides, or blowing her ult early. Circling around the sides takes a while so you can walk away. This leaves either ulting early to avoid W, or ulting around the sides. Both of these are what you want. Throw your E right around her and walk away again. Since she still can't charm you due to minions in the front, and from the sides the charm can be dodged, it means you will avoid most of the trade and cause her to waste her ult, letting you farm again.

That isn't to say it is easy, but it is your best bet if you do find yourself in that lane. Also remember to hit her with Q early, but not when her passive is at 6-9 stacks and she in at/very near full health. She will heal up anyways so let her waste the heal on nothing. Hitting a champ with Q gives just as much AP as last hitting a creep and provides more lane pressure.

If she keeps doing this, W on top of yourself and Q at her.

Then R when she dashes in.

She should die.

MuffledGarbage1 votes

you know that she can just use her ult dash immediately after using one... unless it's her last dash, of course.

There is a delay (bout .5 seconds I think), you know, and possibly she will not see it and dash into it.

And this will probably work a lot-- but filter an HP item into your build and start 'trapping' yourself with your E. You know she's going to follow one of two patterns, charm-orb-out or rushdown with her all-in. If you can force her to stand around in your Es, you can buy enough time to have evaded her engage.

After that, just watch for charm, and hit late game where you can hit her once and gib her with ult.

15 second E cd doesn't help much though when it lasts 2-3 seconds and her ult let's her dash back to me with her last two dashes afterwards. EVEN with me running away/undertower.

EDIT: also take another look at my OP, I already said that I tried that one time and built a lot of MR +health to live through laning.

You can't. She's too "fair and balanced" to lose or have any real counterplay. Just hope that she's bad.
