can we just remove creep blocking already

freepointzs··193 votes·9,869 views

It adds no depth or strategy to this game. There is never a moment where I think "man i really manipulated that creep wave properly so they would get stuck". All creep blocking does is add random frustration into the game. I cannot tell you how many countless times I have had kills get away or have died due to the creeps randomly deciding to impede my ability to move.

TL;DR creep blocking is just a random factor in this game that can have a large impact. Remove it so a random thing no one has control over doesn't determine a game.

I mean, for your own minions, it'd be nice.

Enemy minions should still be all "You shall not pass."

This. I totally kite enemies through my creep wave, particularly against melee tops who're trying to all-in me.

Or at the very least your own pets. Got stuck for about 4 seconds the other day in a game as Malzahar before I realized that my voidling was against the wall and making me unable to move without moving backwards first.

FastAsHeck1 votes

exactly! so if that top lane rengar jumps in your creep wave to all in you at lvl 1 you have a better advantage, not only the damage of the minions

Bouffon dAnglais1 votes

not sure if it's possible with SpaghettiCode™

Xinotine1 votes

Of course it is, item 3046 already exists.

PD removes all creep block, not only your own.

Sadly, we do not know how the game is coded, and how easy/hard it will be to make that distinction.

Maximum Zilean38 votes

Should atleast make it so you can ignore your minions. That way you can still be trapped by enemies who manipulate them properly, and not yours by stupid luck.

Volt Cruelerz16 votes

Your own minions should let you by, but I do feel like enemy minions should still stop you.

For better or worse, the balance of skillshot harass in lane has a lot to do with creep block. I do think it might make it a little too hellish for some melees, but Fizz and Kass both ignore unit collision for a reason (and that reason is making their life easier against harass mids).

TotalJerk23 votes

He's not talking about blocking skillshots. He's talking about removing the ability of minions and monsters to impede player movement.

Dr Poro22 votes

But doing so will make it easier to dodge skillshots during laning phase as you can move through your minions instead of around them. You could get in front of your wave and back behind in a second. It's inherently connected with eachother.

However, I think it's at least worth a try. Making skillshots a bit easier to dodge isn't always a bad thing. This could allow for more power put into the skillshots or the champs who suffer by this. Unit collision with minions is something everyone hates.

you do actually make a good point

Playing as Nautilus I'm always getting trapped between minions due to his large hitbox xD

Mirage Seraph8 votes

Honestly I'm fine with creep block being a thing. When running away up a lane it is actually quite beneficial to weave through the minions sometimes. And creep block is a massive thing to consider for the purpose of positioning.

I'm not however fine with whilst walking towards my turret, I get stuck, literally stuck, between a cluster of melee minions who decided to shift 4 inches to the right because they wanted to dodge caster minion skill shots. Pseudo Anivia Walls are one thing, but LITERALLY snaring a champion is another.

HouseCat011 votes

who were you playing? Personally I only have this problem with larger champs

Mirage Seraph3 votes

Happened once with Sion and another time as Nautilus. Definitely is a thing with larger champions.

My best guess for this bug is that all champions have the same path finding but larger champions can't get through certain gaps in minions so they end up trying to force their way through, and in extreme cases minions shift positions and bam, snared.

HouseCat011 votes

I've never actually been trapped by minions, but i have definitely been impaired in unexpected situations by minions

Once I was running from the enemy team when Rumble ulted. I couldn't get out because a wall of minions blocked where I wanted to go and I died. xD

Tilomentry4 votes

Creep blocking might be more interesting or strategic if we could actually control the pathing of our champions. But since we can't, it can get very frustrating when both our champion and the creep wave try to repath into the same open space and then collide, and then repeat that pattern back into the space we just left.

zall752 votes

I think you're wrong, the pathing won't get better if we get more control over it ( which we already get by clicking close to the champ but just shouldn't be needed ) but only if we stop the minions from making paths impossible, at the very least our minions.

Xietnin4 votes

As much as I want to justify creep blocking being healthy in catching your opponent off-guard, I HATE IT SO MUCH. We already have enough to keep track of with the other lanes, farming, and poking/trading. Creep-blocking is just such an infuriating thing when you're just trying to gain some distance backwards. EDIT: https://youtu.be/dlASnHilb0c?t=110 Linked to the video due to a hilarious example of how bad creep block can be.

Provengreil2 votes

but none of that was creep block. I think they're talking more about what you see at about 2:09 in Kshaway's montage, linked here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6DomJrfVpo

HouseCat011 votes

creep blocking is what makes anivia's q have even a remote chance of landing (i'm not talking about COMPLETE creep block, where you are unable to move, just when the enemy laner is standing in the middle of the minion wave and can't move in certain directions)

EffectFX3 votes

Or you could not get yourself stuck on creeps.

TotalJerk18 votes

One does not simply "not get stuck on creeps", even high level pros have videos of them selves getting fucked over because their character's pathing got too confused by the way the creeps moved.

Xinotine3 votes

Noo... Its always so fun to go "Oh Darius , you'll never catch me"

-Vayne item 3046

Well, seriously unit collision with own minions should be removed. That would allow people to kite chasers trough their minion waves.

HouseCat012 votes

It's even worse for large champions like Nautilus

Xarecgosa2 votes

This would be great, especially in the scenario, where I was darius, full health, somebody was at 10% health under their turret and we were pushing, and I dunked them, ran from the tower, got blocked by minions, and he got the kill. I was legit stuck, Minions like surrounded me...

LordGeovanni2 votes

idk i block my minions some times so the battle would end up closer to my tower and i can zone the enemy more safely they have game mechanics to cancel it out phantom dancer and ghost but no one wants ghost and phantom dancer is a really specific item i think they should find another item to put it on too. its not random its just that people dont remember to factor it in your fault not the games'

A random thing no one has control over.... What, you mean like critical strikes? I suppose you'd like those removed too.

Please teach me how to control when my critical strikes go off so that I can be like you senpai

YossarianSensei2 votes

That just means pathing and unit blocks needs to be fixed

Body-blocking is a legitimately strong tactic in games similar to League, it's just poorly implemented in LoL

just play Fizz Hecarim duuuhh

jk i soo agree with this

Pathing should be improved I think. Your own minions should move aside. enemy minions should be like "no you move"

Aximil1 votes

There's a high chance this'll get downvoted into oblivion because of the game I'm about to mention.

In DotA creep blocking is a legit strategy if you're skilled enough at the game. There have been countless times where I've gotten someone boxed in on that game on purpose. But LoL has poor coding on their minions and their unit boxes. In DotA you can even abuse that to weave back and forth in front of your first minion wave to make them stop closer to your tower than the enemies. And body blocking could be so much better in this. There have been many, many, many times where I have used one of Lycan's 2 wolves to body block an enemy hero so they can't run away while using the other one and myself to attack them.

TLDR: LoL needs better unit boxes.

HouseCat011 votes

"league is fun, but in dota...." from this video

Aximil1 votes

There's nothing wrong with comparing two games of the same genre. LoL does need to work on their unit boxes.

MarkedOfKane1 votes

I love it when minions actually block me in so I cant move at all. Then the enemy walks up and just kills me.

SaintCrazy1 votes

I'm like 99% sure it only exists so item 3046 can have a unique effect.

Conus251 votes

But then Kassadin would need a buff Id say like basic attacks do 10 20 30 40 50(+50%ap) on hit

Midder Scray1 votes

I feel like this still exists solely to make it harder for immobile ADCs

CrazedPorcupine1 votes

What really needs to happen is the minion AI needs to be overhauled so they don't randomly do stupid things.

I've had numerous instances where minions suddenly start attacking new targets out of nowhere. they'll walk away from the minions they were attacking to randomly attack ranged creeps super far away, randomly move from one side of the lane to another to attack a brand new target, and even to randomly stop attacking minions and start attacking me, despite me never even clicking on my lane opponent.

Removing creep blocking is a bad idea, but reworking minion AI to actually be able to be understandable would be nice.

HouseCat011 votes

also, i've noticed that quite often cannon minions, in top and bot lane at least, can become "infinitly" feared, i was trying out shaco in a custom game, and when i placed down a box and feared the cannon minion, it hit the wall and just stayed there, it was kinda stupid
