First pick locks in katarina and complains about the enemy team being all tanks

freepointzs··135 votes·6,100 views

Yah no shit dumbass. What, did you expect the entire enemy team to knowingly pick squishies into you.

And its players like her that hate the tank meta. Because they can no longer insta lock an assassin and expect to rofl stomp the game by themselves

I've always figured people mad about "Tank Meta" are Assassin players that weren't accustomed to, well... putting forth EFFORT.

So far, this hypothesis has a 100% success rate, in my experience.

ya assassins actually needed mechanics and messing up = insta death meanwhile tanks cc you for two years, lol i messed up? lemme just kill u and then walk away from nexus turrets with 90% hp after tanking for another 32 years

I mean, unless you're fed enough to 2 shot your enemy with QW, you're walking out of trouble.

MarhsallLee671 votes

The point I was trying to make is that, regardless of whether or not Leblanc can 100-0 somebody with a simple QW, there is virtually zero time to react to her because of the fact that she can just press w again to return to safety. Even if you are able to CC her in that fraction of a second, unless you're fed enough or have teammates, she's not going to die, she's just going to press W to return to where she was. There is next to no commitment/risk involved in Leblanc's W.

It is so much fun to play against assassins:

  1. Stand next to adc
  2. Wait for assassin to appear.
  3. CC and kill

The three steps to beating assassins, I do like talon and zed though lol.

agbudar5 votes

thats what rammus does best. i loved it nothing more then to just chill and troll hit E spam everything else exept the "hate rammus ball" when that fizz jumps in and watch my adc happily rip Fizz a new one

lol yes dude rammus is so much fun, I just think he needs a little more love. I just sit there and watch the adc kill themselves because they didn't buy mr and thornmail outdamages their sustain. xD

Effort? What are you going to do to a team of beefy tanks when your character is pretty much made to kill softies?

Get fed or die. That's what.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

What are you going to do to a team of beefy tanks

You are playing games against 5 tanks? There isn't a single squishy target for you to go on? i don't believe that for a second, you just cant ult whoever you want and get the free kill. you have to save it for the priority target.

Partholonian3 votes

Maokai Sejuani Chogath Urgot Leona ? An all tank comp is at least theoretically possible, and it probably would counter an assassin pretty hard, but I doubt if it would get picked anyway.

That's also how I would define a REAL tank meta: when that kind of comp is not only pickable, but actually dominant over traditional comps with mage or assassin mids and... pretty much any other marksman. Most teams that I have seen are still rolling with 1-2 tanks, and sometimes even those aren't full tank build but a "one damage item + 2-3 defensive" bruiser build.

Aeolian Melodies1 votes

I'm a support main and I preferred the assassin era.

  1. Much easier to fuck up an assassin's combo with, say, Janna, than it is to keep a tank off your ADC for the 15 sec your ADC needs to kill a built tank
  2. Much easier to turn a fight around with, say, Sona's ult or Nami's wave against squishies than against tanks
P0IS0N IVY2 votes

Yeah pretty much this. There is literally nothing I can do when a Garen decides to target my ADC. I blow everything on him but he just tower dives and runs away with half health.

That should be understandable though, if you first pick something you have NO RIGHT to get upset if you get counterpicked (mostly because you knowingly first picked something that was open to being counterpicked)

That would be like firstpicking Yasuo and then getting upset that you got facerolled up and down lane by Malzahar (who is easily his worst matchup imo)

If you actually think that Malzahar is Yasuo's hardest matchup, you clearly don't play Yasuo much. Hell, I'd honestly say it's one of Yasuo's easier matchups compared to these champions. Annie Chogath Kennen Mordekaiser Swain Vladimir Akali

Malzahar can be a pain if you haven't managed to get a lead on him before 6 or you get ganked at an inopportune time, but if you can't get a lead against Malz before 6, I don't know why you're playing Yasuo. Malz just used his E on a minion, so what is he going to do? Auto you to death? Time to all in Malz! Malz just missed his Q? All in time! Malz just used his E on you while you have a minion advantage? Guess who's about to get all inned?

Malzahar has no defensive steroid, no sustain, no escape, and only 1 targeted ability before level 6; you can pretty much all in him at will before 6 and you should be able to force him to back at least once before he gets his ult. And even once he gets his ult, there are tons of things you can do to mitigate it's effectiveness. The first and easiest is to take exhaust. Malzahar will want to use his QWE on you before ulting or else it doesn't really do much, so just exhaust him if those spells are about to hit and enjoy easily surviving his combo. Early MR or even a full hexdrinker make it impossible to 100-0 you until well later in the game. Also, if you are all inning him, save your dash onto him until he trys to cast Q. The cast time is long enough that you can easily dash onto him before it hits you, ruining his combo. And if he dares to use cooldowns on minions instead of you? All in him immediately. Also, Qss only costs 1255 now; enjoy your free lane.

You're right, I don't play much Yasuo (I have a pretty good understanding of how he works though, played him for a few months before I decided I didn't really enjoy him and went back to my main, who is conveniently Malzahar.

That said (and i'm being completely literal about this) I have NEVER lost a lane to Yasuo as Malzahar, and every time I've been in it, its been a complete stomp for me, He can't block Q (okay well he can but its really tricky to do) but the worst part is that I can just sit near the wave, and throw E on him whenever I have an adult voidling up.

6 is where the fun begins since theres nothing he can do to me anymore without rushing an item that delays his power spike (and even then, once he has it I simply don't ult him anymore)

TL;DR: Its mostly the fact that Malzahar's main form of harass (his E) is impossible to dodge, you can just poke Yasuo's shield off with a single auto anytime its up. Usually the only time Yasuo seems to be on an even playing field is level 1, when I only have Q, once I have E its pretty hard for him to CS since my voidling will zone him.

On a side note, as someone who plays Cho, how is that lane easy for him? I've always had trouble ever hitting Yasuo with Q because of his dashes

Slamurai Jack1 votes

I've never had much issue with Malzahar. He E alone isn't enough to deter me, and he's never going to hit a Q on me 1v1 without ulting if I play intelligently. And even once he has his ult, it's not that big of a deal 1v1. You don't have to rush the full Qss, just the null mantle is sufficient. Not to mention that Malz is still stupidly easy to gank and Yasuo is stupidly easy to gank for, so thats always an option. As for Cho, if he rushes Roa and Maxes W first, there's pretty much nothing I can do after he's lvl 6 with a catalyst. He silence lasts an eternity, is undodgeable, and his sustain and massive health is too much to wear through, but he can still easily kill me.

Askformorenames1 votes

Given the same skill level if you dodge his Q he will dodge your whirlwind. His E alone with a voidling will cost you about half your hp if you stay to trade. If you run, well, you just did 0 damage to him. It's not about how Mal can beat people up in a trade, it's about how he is able to do the same trade 10s later again. Meanwhile he can freely hang back in relative safety and farm minions while not even being there. But I agree he pushes and if he doesn't ward properly he might get ganked. But I think with normal skill a mal will slowly eat up a yasuo, first in cs then if he makes a mistake in kills. Problem is he will be the one waiting for you to make a mistake, not the other way around. A not dodged Q, an E jumped on you, or even popping your shield with an AA can result in you dying pretty fast.

Slamurai Jack1 votes

What kind of noob Yasuo isn't going to use the spinning Q on a Malzahar? Why would you ever use the ranged Q is the E-Q was an option?

I'm so sick of hearing adc mains and assassin mains complaining about how they hate the tank meta. The tank meta actually works how this game is supposed to be. An assassin is supposed to have to wait, and wait, and wait, until they get the opportunity to kill a high priority target. An assassin is supposed to capitalize on an enemy MISTAKE. Not just burst through them, kill their target, and then just go 2v1 because their damage is so high. So, assassin mains hate tank meta because it makes them ACTUALLY USE ASSASSIN MECHANICS AND STRATEGIES? Gee, what a concept! A bunch of my higher elo (usually in diamond) friends actually LIKE the tank meta. Because it forced them to increase their skill on those mechanics, to get their job done. The assassin meta was terrible. When a FED tank can get still bursted down by an average assassin, that's a problem. Now if the assassin wants to kill a tank, they have to farm well, atleast go even with the tank, poke them down, and then use their mechanics to try and out play them. Just like the tank must do. He must avoid the poke, get in, and try to keep the assassin busy. The tank meta is actually how a game like this is supposed to be played.

And yes I am a top main, and yes I do play a lot of tanks, but just as often I play champs like rumble and irelia, and other bursty/high damage champions. Because you can beat tanks. Their stats early game have nothing to do with it, it's all about your personal skill level.

It's pretty much guaranteed that Teemo is going to get a bit of a CS lead against Nasus at first, but once Nasus backs and gets a spectre's cowl and kindlegem (depending on when he backed), it's gg for Teemo. He just can't effectively deny Nasus anymore, and once Nasus gets around 200 stacks killing Teemo becomes trivial. If you need to. Just don't chase him to where his mushrooms obviously are. Nasus outscales Teemo so hard that killing him is just a bonus, and not really necessary.

Plot twist Nasus buys item 3211 and proceeds to get stacks and ignore Teemo.

If you're gonna counter Nasus, pick someone who can harass him and stands a chance against him lategame or scales well Poppy MasterYi Olaf

MemeticMachine1 votes

While both yi and poppy scale well against nasus. yi still has a distinct disadvantage due to wither.

Aside from late game scaling, in-lane sustain is also a key factor and for that reason, late game tanks like olaf and vlad can be considered a counter (not because they scale as hard as nasus, but because they can sustain well enough to out-trade nasus consistently up until laning phase is irrelevant). Thus, early game champs that have innate sustain like lee sin, yorick, or trundle can work well vs. nasus too.

early mix damage is also very important because it would take a while before nasus gets both item 3211 AND item 3024. For that reason, again, yi is not as good a counter as the others listed (even though he has that true damage) (cos his power spike is somewhere around the time nasus completes his defensive items and starts building up a sheen)

Highlander removes Wither.

Vlad and Olaf counter Nasus in lane, yep. Lee Sin? Just dodge the Q by staying behind minions, lol. Once Nasus has some armour and about 200+ stacks it's GG Lee, because Lee suddenly can't fight him anymore.

Yorick is possibly one of the worst picks into Nasus. You're literally providing free Q stacks, and Nasus can sustain through Yorick's harass as well.

Trundle is okay though. He can't deny Nasus as heavily as an Olaf or a Darius, but he can manfight him and win throughout most of the game due to his ult.

A Yi who maxes Wuju style first against Nasus isn't just able to bully Nasus. He can kill him, and then go to other lanes to get more kills. Master Yi is probably one of the few champs who can duel a late game Nasus IMO.

Icestar11861 votes

I personally like Shyvana. You can chunk him pretty hard with your E>W>auto>Q, and you can build challenging smite for all-ins.

Icestar11861 votes

I like picking Challenging Smite Shyvana against Nasus. You can harass him pretty hard early (W > E > Q does a lot of damage and he can't really itemize against you) and still stand a chance late with some teamwork. You also do better in teamfights than he does.

Eh, as an ADC/Top lane player, it isn't really about that for me.

It's the fact that mistakes made by tanks go completely unpunished. As described by Gbay, it's basically a dumbed down version of the game where charging in like an idiot is a lot less penalizing than it should be.

Games that SHOULD HAVE lasted 25-30 minutes, instead last 50 minutes, because you have to constantly poke down 5 tanks over.. and over.. Until FINALLY they're all dead.

Uh, just to be clear, this is describing the assassin meta, not the tank meta, right?

Because in the assassin meta, charging in like an idiot is rewarded with kills. If you're an assassin.

A tank that charges in like an idiot in the tank meta can neither kill 1-2 players instantly, nor get out alive from the remaining ones. An assassin in the assassin meta can do both. Which I suppose means that charging in head on is no longer "like an idiot" because it WORKS, but man, if frontal assault is your standard of skilled assassin play...

I don't even play assassins.

I'm saying that playing a tank.. Is not hard. You can't just skip past that fact. Some roles are easier than others.

All five of them can just charge in with one ability and it becomes a 5 minute long slug-fest of tossing out auto attacks and abilities with no damage. Not only is it boring, it also takes NO SKILL.

Icestar11861 votes

It IS hard. You don't have much damage (not even with your occasional percent health damage ability), so you have to rely on your team, and unlike the support you can't always reliably get them fed. You have to think about initiating, peeling, who is most important to lock down, who is most important to peel for, bodyblocking enemy poke if you need to, itemization (more so than most other roles at least), when to teamfight, and all kinds of things.

So basically you have to do everything that a normal player does.. And nothing else.

I'm saying that beyond basic knowledge of the game, playing a tank takes virtually no skill in comparison to playing a Fighter, Assassin, Mage..

Also, do enlighten me on how I'm constantly being bursted down by a full tank Sejuani with no damage items, or a dedicated tank Cho'Gath with one damage item? Killed in just a few seconds by a full tank Sion? Instakilled by Nasus with no damage items? Shredded completely by Nautilus? Melted by Maokai when he has one damage item?

Tanks do plenty of damage. But that's not the annoying part. The annoying part is everyone is playing a tank, and because of that fights last too long and then games last too long, and waste my time.

Games are SUPPOSED to average on 30 minutes, not 50.

Icestar11861 votes

Sejuani/Sion/Naut: They aren't. They can't. Unless you're a squishy with horrible positioning, in which case you're in trouble.

Cho/Mao/Nasus: They usually build a damage item (Rod of ages or Triforce) to stay relevant because its harder to make you focus them. Therefore, they have more damage than most tanks and if you're squishy and get caught out you're toast.

The ADC and mage don't have to worry about peeling unless they have self-peel which is usually easy to use. They just worry about who to focus and how to position. They aren't easier than tanks, but they're not harder either. They're different from tanks.

The same goes for assassins. An assassin's job is to melt a high-priority target and get out. Therefore, an assassin thinks about who to target, how to get out, and so on. Not harder, different.

Fighters are really similar to tanks. I don't see what could possibly be harder about them.

And if everyone plays a tank, they won't have the damage to win.
