Daily reminder to nerf Thresh

I feel like for how much he's played, he wins way too much. I can discuss his kit for hours, but knowing boards in the end you'll just ignore everything I have to say and go LOL git gud. So I'll cut the crap and just give you his numbers. 53% win rate on a champion with a 37% play rate (highest play rate in the game). For simplicity sake, his actual numbers have been rounded up to the nearest whole number. He's played almost 3 times more than Janna (second most popular support) and he still wins more. 3rd highest win rate among supports (Sona and Blitz have slightly higher win rate, but barely).

Oh god, the memes are true. Someone pull up the winrates so we can list who "needs' nerfs next., because predicting that people would just start bitching about then next was exactly what people did after the Lulu nerfs.

Winrates alone don't mean anything. In most cases, they are actually deceptive. How many times has Yasuo been nerfed when he sat on 50-52? Ryze this year, during his prime, was hovering around 45%. What matters isn't the winrate. It's the winrate compared to their winrates when the champion is 'balanced'. On some champions, 50% is too strong. On others, it's garbage.

It's true win rates aren't everything, but you gotta admit Thresh's numbers are very high (both his win rate and his play rate). He's also a very popular pick in LCS atm.

Is it higher than the normal thresh winrate playrate atm?

They are very high, but what does that mean? It doesn't mean he has to be nerf nor that he has to be buffed. It means absolutely nothing.

I think thats because he has a dedicated playerbase of insanley good thresh players.

I would be surprised if janna had that

People complained about Janna being OP like 3 or 4 months ago mainly cuz her playrate was high.

Thresh is overloaded and a good thresh player can easily negate the stupid " minion block, ward bush " tips.. He will always engage the moment the melee creeps are dead, with flay or flash + hook / flay combo. His pick potential and hook hitbox are too strong and broken hitbox. Also " stay behind creeps " - is not a good idea, considering twitch, lucian, cait are picked every game and they shove waves, so you got nowhere to hide, are forced to stay under tower and the moment the adc goes for a creep he gets hooked.. Thresh HAS counterplay if coordinated well enough, but in soloQ that doesn't seem to happen. My adc's dont seem to know how to lane against him, they dont poke him down, they push too much without vision or minion wave behind us, they don't respect his lantern for jungler etc etc.. Thresh punishes mistakes like no other and even if you don't make a mistake, his hitbox is so off, youll still get hooked even if you see how you dodge it.. He is the best support champion by far, who provides everything possible for the team, except healing. The only nerf I'd like to see for him is make him a melee. Him being ranged, tanky with so much peel and pick potential is just.. too much.. make him melee so that he risks more when he tries to engage or poke in lane. And considering new support item changes , he will become even more popular and strong with new Zeke's and Locket..

Well I'm glad someone has common sense here. Thresh has the most loaded kit of any support in this game. As you said literally the only thing he can't do is heal. He has everything else you could possibly want on a support. Amazing engage tools, lots of cc, shields, ranged auto attacks, and free tank stats. Time to nerf Thresh.

K, so how would you nerf him?

Okay

LOL git gud.

Minion block makes him and Blitzcrank basically useless. More Blitz though.

Note that most people are in bronze and silver. How do you counter them hiding in bushes?

What about warding more?

Daily reminder that he's a high skill cap and has only skill shots. And about the winrate and the play rate, Akali has a 40% winrate and a 10%~ish play rate and riot nerfed her.

Thresh is one of the best IF NOT THE BEST champion(s) at punishing mistakes. A good Thresh will play according to lane. Against an aggressive lane, he will just play passively and wait for them to commit a mistake. (Like a Draven + Blitz). Against a more passive lane he will just zone the enemys away from the creeps and if they still come, a flay, a hook and they're dead. Just wait for the minion wave to push, call your jungler and just repeat gank them. Easy and simple.

Sivir, Cait and Janna are good counters because they have enough range to poke behind minions. If Thresh walks forward for an E, just run. And kite of course.

Thresh players might walk forward to get a soul, and that's perfect if you need to kill him. Especially if your champion has a lot of CC. (Like Blitz)

I would say it’s more a result of the support meta, lux and Yuumi are seeing a lot of time bot lane and thresh can snowball bot lane off both of them pretty hard early.
