RiotScruffy Admits: "No Plans For Yorick Anytime Soon" (No trademark)

TerraRising··9 votes·9,642 views

In this thread, Riot Scruffy admits that while they know Yorick needs some work, there aren't any plans to fix him.

So, a champion Riot readily admits is toxic and wishes never existed (I want to quote Morello as saying that, but it could have been any Rioter), one they won't promote through free week rotation, one they begrudgingly admit is part of the Shadow Isles when something Harrowing-related comes along, one they won't make merchandise for, one they already have a good plan on how to fix, they have no plans to fix him.

So, to any fans of Yorick (and all the haters), prepare for more of the same...

As we've discussed in the past, and as Scruffy mentions in that thread you've linked, we agree Yorick's got some problems that need fixing. We've never said we didn't have any plans to do so however. He's not currently scheduled in our update lineup, that's because we can't work on everything at once, not a lack of desire to make him better.

On the gameplay side at least (I can't speak for certain about art or creative design) Yorick's going to be a really large project. Maybe not quite as big as Sion, but at a guess pretty close and right now Poppy's our biggest focus on the gameplay update front (few details at http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/champions-skins/champion-update/dev-blog-champion-updates). I get that it's frustrating to see other champions prioritized above those you feel have a greater need, I do want to stress though that 'not currently being worked on' is not the same as 'no plans to fix'.

Ill dread the day he is reworked :P

I thought the urgot rework was up next at bat. Or is it being worked on in tandem with the poppy rework?

RiotMeddler7 votes

Last I heard we hadn't committed to a timeframe on Urgot (he's another high value, but really large, job). Unless something goes wrong Poppy's going to be the next really large gameplay rework. You'll almost certainly see small and medium sized gameplay updates before her though.

B...b...but I like Poppy as she is?

Stop lying.

Actually people who play Poppy typically enjoy her outside of laning phase where she is this charging rofflestomping ball of death.

She is my most played jungler this season, her passive is great. Add a few Mreg/18 glyphs, 30 or 27 points in the offense tree and you're food to go.

I don't understand haters like you.

Poppy is not fun to play against in team fights. She creates a well-deserved feeling of hopelessness that is beyond frustrating. I understand why it's fun to ult someone with little utility or damage and then charge at someone else who literally can do nothing to stop you, but imagine being on the other hand of that. She's fast, she can't be stopped, she can't be damaged, she's bursty, so unless you have an ability that allows you to go over walls or a speedboost larger than her own (so like... Yi?), you're done for. And then going close to a wall to use your escape means you get stunned.

I'm not arguing over balance at all here. I'm just saying... playing against Poppy is not fun.

Sorry but this is just stupid. AD Zed is not getting nerfed because "you can buy QSS against him" (even though he is full AD and QSS delivers 0 stats against him).

So, you could buy a QSS against Poppy who actually does magic damage as her main dource of burst (so in this case the stats are not wasted) - and suddenly people cry?

So the support, the jungler, the ad carry, the top laner and the mid should all buy QSS to make sure Poppy doesn't ult someone else? lmfao When all you can say is : ''But that one item means she can't target 1/5th of the enemy team with her 0 counterplay ulti!'' you know there's a problem

Kowe The Ewok1 votes

If she doesn't ult you she deals 30% less damage.

Lord Graves III1 votes

I disagree. If she DOES ult you she deals 30% MORE damage.

She doesn't need the ult steroid to kill most squishies.

If poppy ults someone besides you then you are often out of luck as she outruns plenty of champs.

Sightless664 votes

I can't buy QSS against Poppy. She just ults someone else and murders me anyway.

Lord Graves III1 votes

You could do this, but she still can't take damage or be CCed by anyone but her ult target. This is just brutal. Its impossible to deal with. It is the reason poppy isn't allowed to be strong.

If you like poppy as is then that is your prerogative but she isn't a healthy champ design.

How many high value, large reworks do you want to do for the champions?

Erronius1 votes

This is just another example of why releasing teaser information is damaging to community trust.

It was stated in the past that both Yorick and Urgot are in-line after the Sion update. Now I don't have the links to the posts from the old boards, but I can imagine someone out there is resourceful enough to find them.

I'm not complaining, I'm just pointing out that poor decisions have been made in the past regarding releasing info about champion changes. Denying them, or playing dumb doesn't solve anything.

Speaking of Merry Poppy (there's a theme idea for you, either X-mas themed or a mary poppins ripoff) what's going on with her rework and what does riot plan to do with her?

TheI3igDaddy3 votes

Yorick is out of the free week rotation. The only champ of that nature. This is implying to me that you don't want ANYONE playing him, even moreso than you want people playing and succeeding with Poppy. It's baffling that he's not the number one priority.

So, Meddler. Assuming everything goes as planned with the current update lineup, how long before Yorick could be charted in at the earliest?

This is not committing to a timeline. This is not confirming Poppy is re-released a week from now. This is simply saying that "If nothing gets fucked up, we could start working on Yorick as soon as Insert month here"

Give the Yorick fans some love, because saying that he isn't even in the lineup when the lineup is without a timeframe and without a specific list of everything on it (sure you've pointed out some things in the future but not everything that is charted) you may as well have left it at "We have no plans for Yorick."

He'll probably get a texture rebalance at the very least. Maybe a couple low-scope QoL changes. Maybe a new skin like they did with Eve.

... right now Poppy's our biggest focus on the gameplay update front.

Is that because of her recent popularity or does that have other reasons?

Garlyle Wilds2 votes

Poppy's been "on the list" for ages now - much like Sion before her. Her starting to pick up in popularity is just a blip in the long timeline that is the discussion about reworking Poppy.

In her case, they just consider her kit really fundamentally flawed - there's really not much you can do about her if she's strong enough to get ahead, but on the other end there's also not much she can do if she falls behind. That's a problem a couple numbers tweaks won't change either - it just adjusts how many games she ends up on either side of the line.

I'll admit that I may not have selected the correct words when I wrote my post (I was more than frustrated at the time), but I do believe I'm not wholly incorrect.

Your timeline is more of an "eventually."

"We will get to Yorick... when the stars are aligned and the moon is in the summer house and my Riot finally moves their offices to Los Angeles..."

My timeline is a little more short term.

Scruffy said Yorick's "not in the pipe" for a fix, and that "we will come back to it some day..." As such, there aren't any plans to fix Yorick soon, trademark or otherwise.

Also, condescending remark or not, the real frustration is that you all have known that Yorick is a problematic champion but won't do anything about it other than a handful of nerfs

  • Riot won't promote him, he hasn't been on a free week rotation in over two years...
  • A good number of players hate him as kit is considered toxic...
  • His model is out of date compared to the new summoner's rift and he won't be getting a texture upgrade at all...
  • He breaks Featured Game Modes because your team never tests the game with him...

That's the frustration. You guys know Yorick is a problem champ (not quite the level of old Sion), but one EUCS player uses Poppy in an LCS promotion match and completely turns a series around for their team and suddenly she's a priority to fix?

I'm beating a dead horse, but this might be the straw that broke the camel's back for me.

Look I want Yorick to be reworked as much as the next guy (and I mean REALLY want him reworked), but he is not the only problem champion in the game. Urgot, Poppy, Dr. Mundo ect. needs work on as well. So as much as I hate to be that one guy everyone dislikes and hates, I have to say that everyone takes time and that yorick is just going to need to wait in line like everyone else who wants a rework or VU.

So because a champion out of 121 champs is not getting much attention yet means that you will be quitting the game? Okey dokey. Bye have a wonderful life.

A nice ult is fine (I prefer ulting a fed AD), but I'd rather have a champion that isn't hated so blatantly by the company.

What the heck Riot.

TerraRising3 votes

I wouldn't expect an answer.

I had a pretty popular thread on Reddit concerning the number of days (1,270 as of this post) since Yorick's Launch / Since he's had a new skin. While a similar thread about Jinx had IronStylus give a response, no Rioter dared say anything about Yorick on my thread.

Shame, too. There's some interesting potential for Yorick, both story-wise and through a revised use of minion summoning. However, Riot isn't going to do anything to promote Yorick, especially when you have sites like Surrender@20 scouring for information to post.

So, Yorick will continue to be the champion Riot doesn't want to exist and will do anything to discourage use of.

Discourage use of? In my opinion Yorick is by far the most playable of the "old-fashioned" champions. Unlike Urgot and Poppy he lanes like an absolute beast vs the majority of top lane. I thought the main complaint about Yorick was "he isn't fun". I personally use him as a default toplane pick in ranked because he beats out almost any lane (Cho-gath.... not so much)

That's why he's considered "toxic." He's a lane bully who is not fun to play against. In fact, if Yorick had a better ultimate, he'd be downright broken at all levels.

Yorick doesn't make #LCSBIGPLAYS, so Riot doesn't give a shit about him. I'm sorry I had to be the one to break that to you, but you have to learn what their priorities are one of these days ("Making a good game" is not one of them).

Oh there was a comment by a Red on this thread. . . And some interesting points brought up about him being removed from the Free Week rotation. I hadn't really thought about that, but the fact that Riot doesn't want us to play him at all really says something. Poor guy, he just wants to dig some graves. . .

I actually made a post recently on proposed rework to his abilities that doesn't drastically change him. Keeping it short here and recapping for others:

Increase his base cooldowns by 20 to 30% Give his abilities AoE auras around the ghouls Q = movespeed team 1/2 strength of Yorick effect W = fine the way it is E = heals nearby friendlies 1/2 strength of Yorick's heal R = gives his passive to all champs near the Ult Ghoul Make E a skillshot with roughly 1k range.

That gives him some play making capability, team utility, counterplay in lane from longer cooldowns, and more decision making that just what's on cooldown? When you use one of his aura ghouls to help team or to just do damage is important, making his E a skillshot makes laning easier for opponent while giving him some extra bush checking ability. The biggest thing is the Ult, using it early makes the teamfight better, but using it late gets the revive, which is more impotant and when are great skill decisions. Playing against a Yorick like that would be interesting as it's not just E, walk into a bush. Just my thoughts, also "THEAD NECROMANCY INVOKED!"
