Morgana Sleeper Mid Pick?

Slythion··2 votes·805 views

I seem to always have success when I take Morg mid, yet I've only seen other's taker her mid maybe 2-3 times. She provides great waveclear, heavy cc, incredible utility, and provides just as much ap damage as most other mid laners. Her laning phase is solid, making her nearly ungankable due to being immune to cc along with having a shield, an aoe slow -> snare and due to her waveclear she shouldn't be caught pushed anyways. The only downsides to her is her cd's, early mana costs, and the lack of being able to properly "burst" squishies.

What are your guys' takes on this? Is she viable, or am I missing something?

She's a safe pick and only really requires you to land bindings and have reflexes fast enough to bind the right people at the right time.

Iirc, wasn't morgana originally considered a mid laner to begin with?

I like Morg the same reason I like Zilean, if you fail at being a carry, you can fall back on being a secondary support

I think that must be why I've been enjoying utility mages so often, including Zilean. I always thought of her as a support until I had to play against a morgana mid myself one day. I've been loving Morgana mid from that game on, and have always had a high success rate. The only reason I figured she was a sleeper is because I almost never see other Morgana mids around

Morgana was originally designed as a mage, and that hasn't really been changed as she's also mostly appeared as support. She's not much of a "sleeper pick," she's just more popular as a support because her utility is present even without building strictly for herself.

She's not infallible, by any stretch, but she's always been something of an anti-mage in her own right, and definitely an anti-disable champion in general.

Is there any reason why I have never really seen other morgana mids? Is she simply more useful as a support or is it just that there are better options? It could have to do with my low elo but idk

If I have to guess. I would say it would be the " is it just that there are better options" Unless you can all was lane her Q. She does not really bring much burst damage winch is the reason most Mid are pick for as well as fast wave clear. Yes she can clear a wave very easy with her W but you do have to have the wave set in it.

Mind you it can be just because ever one see other people play her as support they just think that her main role. A lot of people will play champ one way simple because they saw a better player play it that way(aka a Pro).

That makes sense, her dot is a little off-meta for mid picks but can still be reliable

It is good, but you need to know how the play the lane match ups correctly or you will have a bad time.

Indeed, Azir is one matchup I havn't figured out quite yet. Had trouble with an annie last game, but that's because I was an idiot who went frostqueens in that matchup (not a good idea). I'll go ahead and blame that mistake on the fact that I'm running on 3 hours of sleep lol

That's funny cause I've just started using morg mid again.

I recently faced a mid morg and was like "oh yeah, she is pretty strong"

Late game when just your Q hits for 800, man. She does well with a real income.

I remember a little bit ago I was in a game where I was at like 40% health running from a kalista, then I just turned around and hit her with a Q-W and she literally got deleted, my team was like "YOOO WHERE KALISTA GOOOOO"

I love morgana. She's my number two safe midlane blind pick if I don't feel like playing Malzahar for whatever reason. I spammed her quite a bit last season and had decent success. It's really hard to lose lane with her. She also counters a vast majority of midlaners, too.

Her mana costs aren't bad at all if you aren't throwing out Q's every chance you get and farming properly with your W, If I remember correctly at level 2 she has 3.1 mana regen/sec with just the mastery and doran's ring. I almost never run out of mana with her.

I actually start with spellthiefs edge, the mana regen + slow synergizes really well with her. The extra gold you gain helps a bit too, and it provides just that much extra utility for your team :3

That's also viable too, but I normally don't get it because I focus on farming a lot and end up not being able to utilize the passive early game due to killing minions consistently

Slythion1 votes

I can usually get the 3 procs off my W before it kills any minions if they are standing by their caster minions

Morgana mid has always been viable, no question there. She was a very common pick a few seasons ago. Most people just like to play bursty and/or mobile mids nowadays.

She has always been a mid champ but people moved her to the support role because of what she can bring to her adc. In fact, the reason she got the Victorious skin a few seasons is because she represents mid mage can also support.
