Why is Teemo so popular in ARAM?
Every time he pops up as an option he gets taken.
You'd think having the entirety of the champion countered by spending 300g every 5 minutes wouldn't attract many takers...

Because the "entirety" of him isnt countered by Oracles. He has the third highest winrate in ARAM. You just have to be smart about where you put them. You put them in contested areas where they won't be cleared out for free and use them during fights. Without Oracles, Teemo would be absolutely broken in ARAM. Plus the fact that you are siphoning 300g every 5 minutes from a couple enemies by just existing
people remember that one time 300 games ago where their team didn't buy any oracles and got demolished by a teemo, and they think they're going to be that teemo. Really I have no idea, I can understand conceptually why people think it's great, you can't back and heal, and mushrooms can really chunk people. But he's extremely easily countered and then becomes borderline useless.
I think it's because of his ability to zone people off with Shrooms. If the enemy team isn't wise enough to buy Oracles, then Teemo can lockdown bushes & turn the Bridge into a Minefield until they do.
Secret OP, build him as Tank-mo and watch the enemy team blow everything on you thinking your an easy target.
His wave clear and zoning with shroom's thrown into minion waves can be beyond annoying/useful, even when a team start's buying oracles.
