No No Hell No. This is not a nerf

5/1 PBE Update

New Recipe: [B.F. Sword + B.F. Sword + 1100 gold] Total Cost: 3700g Attack Damage increased from 70 to 80 [Removed] No longer increases critical strike damage. [New Effect] UNIQUE Passive: Doubles your critical strike chance. [New Effect] UNIQUE Passive: 20% of critical strike damage is converted to true damage.

DOUBLES CRITICAL STRIKE CHANCE??? This alone literally makes IE double the gold efficiency of all other crit items, meaning that ADCs can pick up 1 zeal item and be at 60% critical strike. If they go double zeal (current ADC meta build) they will have 100% crit chance.

Yasuo can hit 80% crit chance simply with 1 zeal, in addition to dealing 20% true damage on his attacks once he gets this item.

This change does nothing to hurt how powerful the crit meta is, it only further establishes how strong going one zeal item -> IE -> second zeal will be

Removing the 50% bonus damage on crits does nothing?

Come on people we can't be like this if we want riot to talk to us.

The true damage replaces it. Just makes armor even less useful.

Well, ADCS are supposed to be Tank-killers, are they not?

Its actually a nerf.

Crit doesn't get modified to do more damage, and the item itself doesn't give crit chance (so basically, instead of the 20% crit change it gave on its own, you'd need to have another crit item, which is typically 30 chance so IE gives 30% with it.)

Reduces the damage but makes it more consistent, randuin's actually counters it better, and converting some of it to true damage means pen doesn't amplify the crit damage.

Your crit damage is more efficient damage, aka makes it effective against tanks and does not boost your damage against squishies since squishies do not build a bunch of armour, if any at all.

If you are an IE builder you probably do not need to build penetration at all anymore with the new IE since last whisper and new IE kind of make themselves both inefficient.

So uh, lets be real here.

Currently, IE + Zeal item is 50% crit chance. IE + Zeal is 40% crit chance. You can either build IE or a Zeal item first and still feel pretty good about it due to IE actually having Crit Chance which makes it's own passive useful

PBE, IE + Zeal is still 40% crit chance which is basically the same as right now. Zeal item + IE would be 60% BUT with 50% less damage and 20% true Damage CONVERSION Now, you HAVE to build a zeal item before your IE is worth it as it literally has no effect without crit anymore.

a 50% drop in damage is huge against paper champs and 10% true damage conversion is just a patch up so its still useful against tanks. In addition, building 2 zeal items is now just stupid inefficient with IE. Also, thats a fucking horrible build path for IE. i mean come on, 2 BF swords and a 1.1k Recipe cost? goddamm.

Now, lets just wait for the critsassin crew to use stormrazor and the new rune that was supposed to come with stormrazor destroy ADCs

Yes, new IE is completely useless as a stand alone item and they made ER a lot better item stand alone. Riot basically completely reversed the roles of the two items completely. New IE may be priced a little too high, especially since Zeal items all got 200 more gold added to them (puts them in line with the mage equivalent of their mana + 20% CDR items, which I am pretty sure that is what Riot was aiming for) so I fear IE might become the new BT and no one buys it, BT price drop is dead on to what it needs to be at 3500 gold to match Death's Dance price point to make a real decision and trade off between BT's life steal and shield OR Death Dance's CDR and anti-burst passive.

While the new item is a mix of the two items, ER and IE, where it can function by itself, bu really shines with crit chance to always have that passive available since it procs on crits (imagine it be really good on Quinn, new ER I am pretty sure is going through a few passives this cycle and the best one will ship to live this patch, but ER will be even better on Sivir, Ashe and Quinn since you get the mana return and CDR immediately which is why they want that item - same with Lucian and Corki).

Yea ER looks monstrous imo. semi caster ADCs like lucian and varus and some fighters like Fiora or XZ too.

one funny thing tho, with max rage and just IE, you can get 70% crit chance on tryn :)

The funny part is it's going to be abused by more than ADC's.

Nidalee/Karma will see bruiser top builds. Teemo will be a nightmare. Akali .. is going to absolutely frightening with how much burst she will do. Diana will abuse it. Kassadin will abuse it with IBG.

All that said... KogMaw Corki with item 3078 item 3508 and Stormrazor are going to be beyond annoying.

ER has a cooldown of 30 secs. Ya can't spam it. The real power comes in champs who have a decent amount of AAs in their combos and have lots of power stored in their abilities instead of loaded onto their ult. I.e. Lucian or kaisa.

A good amount of it will still be about the basic attacks required to lower the cd

Everyone will be building crit now.

Stacona1 votes

only zeal items give crit now.

Looks like I get to build ER->BC on MF and lose nothing. Sweet.

New meta = item 3508 item 3071 item 3036 item 3072 MF.

Calling it now.

Stacona1 votes

Why not Death's Dance instead of BT for MF?

Generally speaking I prefer BT with overheal to DD. You don't need the extra CDR and that shield is priceless. DD stops burst.. but unless you have an enchanter sup you still pretty much dead anyway.

It is efficent with other items but it's a garbage first item, so either you build it and waste 2 passives until you at least finish zeal, or you rush a zeal item and lack raw damage. Combine that with cost increase to both IE and zeal items and you deleyed the first power spike marksmen get by a while.

Besides before (now) IE + Statik would give you 50% crit chance (only 10% less than new IE+statik) AND 50% more crit damage AND would not need to be tied together to start using your infinity edge.

Lets wait a bit before you start picking specific stats and ignoring others.

Yasuo gets 100% crit with completed zeal + IE, now he spends 500 gold more and 50%AD less damage, his ult gives him so much armour pen that some true damage does nothing for him.

I need to test it out, but I think it might only double your base crit chance for both the item and his passive which would mean he gets 90% crit chance from the same two items instead of 100% plus 50% ad less damage.

IE gives 20% crit now, Zeal item gives 30% crit, this gives 50% crit - change is 0% crit on IE and 30% crit for zeal which doubles to 60% but you lose out on the damage passive and its 500 gold more expensive to buy.

Also Zeal + Zeal + IE now is 80% crit, at that point you might as well be at 100% especially since league's RNG system is in favour of the player and is not a true % system. At 80% crit in league is something like a 96% chance to crit based on how the system is programmed to work because it is in favour of the player with the crit chance.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

It stacks additively so Yasuo's crit chance gets quadrupled. IE + Zeal Item gives him 100%

Stacona1 votes

Regardless he gets 100% crit chance from the same two items. The difference is that he loses out on 50% damage and spends 500 more gold. Yasuo may be better off buying the new item instead since crits give attack speed and movement speed for 1.5 seconds, like a miniature version of Quinn's passive proc.

I did some testing in practice tool. It's pretty much the same DPS as live in most cases but that's vs a 100 armor dummy. So roughly speaking it's worse vs targets with less than 100 armor.

Also this guts Yasuo overall because his IE + PD power spike is weaker vs non-tank champions.

Building armor is now less effective against IE passive. This means crit multiplier with IE early game is nerfed against squishy champs. As their base armor increases though the damage eventually equalizes and in some case surpasses what it is now (Assuming ADC is building Dominiks right now and LW for after these changes). Late game damage isn't necessarily reduced, in fact it's probably increased against ADCs and Tanks. However, I can imagine that crit will be much weaker for the 2-3 item point due to lower damage multiplier against squishies and higher costs.
