Why does Banner of Command grant Magic Resist to promoted minion?

A little redundant, don't you think? Considering the promoted minion is immune to magic damage in the first place.

Could you instead give it a split 50% damage reduction from both physical & magical damage, or at least damage reduction (not 100%) vs AoE spells/ranged attacks? Maybe Critical strike damage reduction?

I actually think the item-holder should be near his wave in order for his minion to stay promoted (like mini Hand of Baron). It should be used as a sieging tool, which to be fair it is... when the team has baron buff. But a lot of uses from this item comes from split pushing (like Yorick's ult Maiden) rather than continuously buffing up your minion by being near it. And it makes Mages and most tank top laners whose primary damage is magic, often needs the turret to deal physical damage to the promoted minion to kill it.

I remember it loosely being used to be an aura item with a minion buff mechanism for armor and resist within the aura. I feel like with the recommendation you are providing however that it would make the item too Baron reliant rather than a strategic splitting mechanism it's been made to be.
