We Need More CC and Little Damage Champions In the Game

Right now, the game is really dominated by damage in each role. Top Lane has to either be dealing tons of damage to carry or having huge damage reduction to block the carries. Middle Lane is all about roaming pressure, especially Bottom Lane, meaning that they have to have tons of quick damage. ADC has always been damage focused, but that is it's purpose. Support has become all about damage mitigation to weaken the extreme amounts of damage being thrown around. Jungle has become this weird ball of champions, which is fine, but you still hardly see CC focused junglers like Amumu and Sejuani played a ton.

What I'm saying is that we need more champions in this game that are entirely about disabling enemy champions. Right now, we have about 8, being: Alistar Amumu Leona Malphite Nautilus Nunu Sejuani Only about 3 of these champions are currently being used due to nerfs or innate flaws in their kits. Note that I said entirely about CC, not CC+Damage. There are some champions that can disable enemy champions nearly as good as these guys while ALSO dealing tons of damage, but that is another story. What I want to focus on is the lack of CC focused champions. Most Initiate champions these days are all about that initial BURST of damage they provide, not some team crippling crowd control. The only champions that are currently somewhat like that are Hecarim and Gragas, but even they are more known for their pretty crippling damage along with their crowd control.

TL;DR We need more Disable focused champions. Not Disable+Damage, but pure Disable focused champions.

So true tanks? Yes, we do need a new tank champion agreed. However, high CC low damage is usually a tank or some mages.

Yes, we need more True Tanks.

by some mages you mean squishy supports right? (i just want clarity)

Not quite. There are several mages who bring only medium damage(relative to other mages) buy loads of CC instead.

Don't forget Maokai he has a slow, a root and a knock back that slows.

Meep Man2 votes

I was looking more for huge AoE CC, but Maokai is a little bit of what Im talking about. He just has more utility than pure CC.

sion doesn't do that much damage and he gets real tanky later on, taric is there too but I guess he's more of a buffer and peeler than disabler, also leona HURTS man I call bull!

Cremepie4 votes

yeah but riot is more interested in "why not both?" Ekko rip balance. Obvious personal bias is obvious btw.

Don't forget Lissandra she was born as heavy cc low dmg mage ( even trought MYUY and TL runied her ) and, as of now, she is prob one of the mage with the lowest dmg on equal gold

1020 + 2.35 AP isn't low damage per se, on top of a 3s base cooldown on Q.

GULAG 4 U3 votes

It's meh damage compared to other mages, that's the truth. She has top tier utility and a hourglass that heals or is a point and click stun and that's worth a lot. That's why she gets picked by pros.

ZT Xperimentor3 votes

This is something I'd like to see riot address too.

I was going to suggest Sion but then you said not CC and damage. And Sion has pretty high damage for a tank (on purpose might I add).

Meep Man1 votes

Indeed

Handy Sandy 2 votes

also Chogath

Meep Man14 votes

It's hard to say Cho'Gath is a high CC, little damage champion when he has a 650 (+70% AP) true damage nuke in his pocket.

GULAG 4 U4 votes

Cho has a good amount of cc honestly. His damage is also bullshit levels of high for a tank. I mean you can run a ROA, throw in a Crystal scepter, Protobelt, go tank, and you're a monter sitting on 5k hp with 120 duo resistances (Not a lot but acceptable) while nuking people to smitherens.

Ralanr8 votes

That's more AP bruiser. If he was going tank he'd have little to no AP items, not three.

GULAG 4 U4 votes

I guess yeah. Cho deals a shit load of damage with very little Ap anyways so....

His weakness is his lack of engage and he's immobile.

YumaS2Astral1 votes

Also that his Q is peharps one of the hardest abilities in the game to land, seriously, on my opinion only Xerath's ult is harder to land

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Yeah. It's possible to hit it once you git gud with cho.

Ahum, Amumu has ONE cc pre-6 and TWO then, with two purely damaging abilities. He's definitely not CC oriented.

PB4UAME2 votes

About 50% of his power budget is tied up in a massive AoE hard CC that is teamfight defining. I strongly beg to differ.

agbudar2 votes

how can you forgetBraum Rammus Thresh

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I'm pretty sure amumu doesn't have 'little' damage. But the rest yeah.

Meep Man1 votes

Eh, they all can have huge damage if built for it, but they all are used for the CC they bring with damage often not being in mind at all.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

I guess that's true. But really I've seen more amumu ults than one half healthing my ass when I don't have MC or Maw.

Overall I'd in for more utility/cc champs, even if I would never bother playing them. I love damage too much.

I disagree

Rammus

The issue with doing this is not making them obsolete or too powerful when that type of champion already exists within league and having champions of such an extreme nature is not productive to the game's balance nor is it ideal.

Evewynn1 votes

Once you start creating kits that are almost all CC, you run into the issue of overlapping champion identities. And even if there were more choices, they wouldn't be picked any more than they do now because they just fill the same role as the people who already weren't getting picked (and only the strongest would see play)

I would also argue that amumu, malph, and nunu do not really fit the paradigm you set up. They're pretty much just one-trick champs with all their power in their ults, as opposed to being CC bots.

Eh.. here's my list of heavy CC champions: ** Taunts, Slows, Disruptions, Displacements, Debuffs, Invuln effects, and of course, Stuns and Root effects. ** Ahri Alistar Amumu Bard Blitzcrank BraumFiddlesticks Galio Leona Lissandra Lulu Lux Malphite Malzahar Morgana Nami Nautilus Rammus Sejuani Shen Singed Sona Swain TahmKench Taric Thresh Udyr Volibear Warwick MonkeyKing Zac Zilean Zyra

I think CC is in a very, very healthy state right now.

On the subject of some of these being 'Too Bursty'.... I think that many CC-focused champions bring potential burst and tankiness to the table. You can easily build Amumu as a terrifying DOT bruiser, or a core tank, that destroys teams with one well placed ult... One of leagues strengths is that champion versatility.

**One thing i WOULD like to see, is a new item that lets players sacrifice some core stats for the ability to CC a target. **

Meep Man1 votes

I would like a counter effect/stat/item or whatever to Tenacity. Right now, you can easily nearly half the duration of all non-airborne or Suppression effects with a pair of boots and a Mastery. That seems a little ridiculous to me and is likely why many champions with stuns, fears, and such are often outclassed by champions with airborne effects unless they have some form of intense potential burst damage to go with it or support utility. We don't really have any pure disable champions that can't also pull off some insane burst or also provided healing or combat stats to their team. The closest champion to that is Nautilus really.

dragon1xx1 votes

Nunu? Amumu? Pfft Their full ap builds are insane

Meep Man1 votes

All champions can build an Attack Speed+Attack Damage and deal decent sustained damage, especially if Ranged. Likewise, champions that don't have absolutely hideous ratios or next to none (see Mundo) can all build AP to deal some decent burst damage.

I would love this. Sejuani is my go to jungler, and I would play naut if i owned him, but i love this style of champion. My playstyle is based around setting up plays and peeling or continuing them more than killing (while killing is fun)

Even my go to carry jungler MonkeyKing has that CC i need to fit my playstyle and my favorite supports are Bard and Braum who are both loaded with cc and teamfighting aoe cc

Janna: ???

JuiceNJews1 votes

How about a tank that is grounding, utility and sustain oriented (instead of the more traditional slows, knockups and stuns). I think such a tank would fit the meta nicely and provide a nice niché pick against overly mobile dashhappy comps.

AntiCalamity1 votes

We do NOT need more cc in this game...

The Great Divide1 votes

I'd agree. Frankly, I'm sick of graves, hecarim, or vi in every one of my games. Especially because they all build like 1 damage item, then proceed to 2 shot. And each has their little "fun" gimmicks that makes it extraordinarily hard to deal with them if they even get 1 kill.
