Stopping flaming your Blitz/Thresh when they miss a near impossible hook

Quantum Weeb··49 votes·5,851 views

If I'm playing Thresh and missing a max range hook, I probably never though I'd hit it and only tried because I had nothing to lose. It's better to have some chance, however small, than doing nothing. Yelling at your teammates for trying will only make them afraid to do so, and give you a lesser chance of winning.

Seriously, if there's nothing to lose by throwing out a difficult hook, don't flame your teammates for trying to win the game.

I agree that people shouldn't flame. But please, if you're playing Thresh / Blitzcrank, don't waste your hook if you don't think it will hit, especially early in the game. It gives your opponents a window of opportunity.

My opinion at least.

It depends on the situation. Early game, I will agree with you since the mana cost and cooldown are high and it removes a lot of your pressure. However, later in the game around teamfight phase the mana cost and cooldown aren't as severe (especially when you build CDR items) and it can help to fish for hooks to try and get a good initiation or to make them back off from an objective.

It's all situational. Personally, I'm pretty conservative with my hook but if I see an opportunity for a good catch when roaming later in the game I'll give it a shot even if it is a low probability.

I agree that in the early game, those hooks might not be worth it, especially if you're Blitz. Late-game, there's almost never a reason not to try for a random hook, since mana shouldn't be a problem anymore. The only reason you should hold on to it is if you know there's an engagement coming up.

I will agree with this. Early game on Thresh I only throw it if I'm at least (around) 75% sure I can land it - his mp5 isn't great and until about 6-7 the hooks are fairly costly. My least favourite matches are the ones where my ADC is screaming continuously for not spamming my hook - look, buddy, it has a CD and I only have so much mana...do you want it to be CD/me be OOM when they jump us? I thought not. I get these sorts of carries fairly often. If you want a poke support, let me know beforehand and I'll bring Karma or Brand.

i don't mind when you hold your hook but when you sit in the bush and leave me to 1v2 till level 6 I am not your friend anymore.

INTER5TELLAR1 votes

I don't do that. I usually stay really close to the carry, as most supports should. Not on top of them, but definitely within a few hundred units.

No more opportunity than when anyone misses one of theirs just saying.....

Ezreal misses 4 Qs - nobody bats an eye.

Blitzcrank misses a Q - everybody looses their minds!

Blitzcrank Q is a skillshot that has a very high mana cost and long cooldown and is very important strategically to hit. Ezreal Q is on the other end of the spectrum. I mean, it's not okay to flame people, ever. But there's a difference between not poking them a few times and yanking Zed off your ADC. That's why there's such a different reaction.

How about don't flame them no matter who they are playing!Braum

As a Blitzcrank main I agree. Especially if you have the mana for it, hook at every opportunity. Sometimes you'll get lucky and get the enemy team spamming "AIMBOT".

Totalwanabe2 votes

maybe you main him but you still haven't learn how to play him. You don't spam it you predict where they will go ( everyone has a pattern you just need to find it) and throw it your chance of success will always be near 80%. And the less obvious it is you will throw it the better, like not do it from far away more like get in there face they will run , knock up back out a little to gain some distance and throw about 1 second no more and congratulation you just killed or assisted in killing the target.

If you insist on spamming you should just play ap nidalee.

Easiest way to get used to predicting where they will go, is start off trying to land Nami Nami's q. After mastering her q, predicting an opponents move gets much easier in my opinion.

I'm fine with all the hooks my blitz misses as long as he doesn't decide pulling in a Malphite during a teamfight is a good idea.

Lol or Singed! I played a match as Singed a week or two ago - went against an AD toplane Blitz who kept pulling me and my poison would kill him. Later, during teamfights, he continued to hook me into their team who then screamed at him. Fun times.

I think the question with Thresh is not when you should throw out a Q but more importantly when you should re-hit the button to zoom to their location. I main support and too many times I have cringed watching a Thresh Q to the enemies location just to feed the enemy team.

My favorite memory of this type of situation I was playing as a Thresh. The event went as follows. I throw my hook. They flash to prevent it from landing. My adc then types to me "...Thresh". Because I was somehow supposed to land the hook despite them flashing out of it's range... You'd think they would have been glad I got them to waste flash over just a grab...? Nope. To them I missed. Meanwhile the adc misses every skill shot of his own, and I say nothing about it.

I dont agree. I think when you play thresh / blitzcrank you got to be very patient with Q and not just throw it at anything out there. If you are not patient, that gives the enemy a 20 second window to harass, zone, or engage while your hook is down.

Same with Janna shield, do you know how hard it is to click you when you're moving like that? :P

Drunk Rummate1 votes

what about when they attempt a near impossible hook and then leave us defenseless for the next 20 seconds while it's on cooldown?

CoolKnightST1 votes

Their is a reason why Thresh Blitzcrank are not recommanded in low elo. It requires a lot of game & champion experience to known when you should keep the hook for zoning & when it's ok to try it. A blitz that miss his hook will get poked until his Q is back out of cooldown. The same counts for Thresh. You litterly can give your adc a cs lead without having to casting a single hook. Just by using it as a zoning tool.

INTER5TELLAR1 votes

I main Thresh and can safely say that I almost NEVER get a "Yeah, great job!" when I land a super difficult "thread the needle" between minions, max range 1 in 100 odds hook during lane. BUT, if I friggin miss, I usually never hear the end of it. My favourite, though, is when I rush sightstone (which, imo, almost all supports should do) and I get yelled at for not getting more armour/hp, etc. XD

Volt Cruelerz1 votes

To be fair, by using your CC, you do give the enemy a window of opportunity.

youngjake931 votes

What about the ones that seem to afk under your tower for 30 seconds while you farm 1v2(so double the cd of the hook) then come out to hook a minion that was obviously blocking them and hadn't even been moving, then back to the tower? That's just the Blitzcranks lol. The Thresh players will miss the hook, flash tower dive and miss the flay, then ult after they get out of range then blame you for not following up. I'm sorry, but I tend to turn into an ass at that point and will lol at every missed hooked even if it was one of those max range couldn't have hit it anyway hooks.

ThyRoyalJuice1 votes

I only miss because of Fizz and his stupid playful trickster that makes me pull in the tank behind him ;-;

Aurorarkness1 votes

Well, I just played a game where I hit 90%+ of the hooks (pulled enemy squishies under our tower kind of hooks), and I still get flamed for not auto-attackinging enough....... You just can't make everyone happy......
