Wookie: "I wouldn't say that GD is being deleted"
My problem with this statement is that you're taking out a big part of what GD is, a non-reddit forum.
[Contributes to front page, “upvote” thread sorting, default chronological comments]

_ “upvote” thread sorting_
Before I go on let me say a few things;
- This isn't meant to a be a shitpost, I'm trying to bring in honest discussion. If you're dead-set on changing GD, I think this is one point that really shouldn't be changed.
- I'm a Riot fanboy, and anyone that's seen my posts can attest to that. I was one of maybe 5 people that actually didn't mind the new Boards, and I post on other parts beside GD from time-to-time.
- I have no problems with the Reddit sorting system. In fact, I visit Reddit more than I visit GD, and the LoL subreddit is one of my most viewed. The system works, but it won't work for GD.
##Bringing in a Reddit sorting system is effectively destroying GD.
Maybe that's what you want, but is that really a good idea? You're essentially making a second miscellaneous, which I'm guessing from the restructure isn't something to want. More importantly, have you seen any "Other Stuff" subforums on any forum website? They are absolutely deserted, because no one goes to a LoL subforum to disucss Warhammer. The only way something like that will happen is if "All-Chat" becomes a tight-knit community without many new people showing up. Congratulations, you're back to square one, but now GD has a different name. If you want to delete GD, you'd be better off actually deleting GD. If you want to fix GD, leave the chronological sorting system in place.
##"But a chronological system will just encourage shitposts!"
Surprisingly, not really. The fact is, most shitposts on GD are either ignored or quickly accumulate a lot of downvotes. The best way ward off as many shitposts as possible without having someone approve every new post is to simply close or hide threads that receive a certain amount of downvotes, or a certain amount of downvotes compared to certain criteria such as upvotes or views. Yes, we had a similar system back on old GD, but it was very lenient. Threads that received 20 downvotes in 20 minutes would often stay open, and in some cases threads would reach HUNDREDS of downvotes before closing.
##This system also fights comment shitposting.
It was prosposed that comments in All-Chat be sorted chronologically, which would mean that shitposters could just run to the comments section. How do we solve that? The same way we stop terrible threads, have the comment be deleted or hidden after certain downvote criteria have been reached. The comment section could be made more lenient to facilitate discussion against the "hive mind," if you wanted to do so. Additionally, a system can be put in place to stop bumping and discourage a thread from staying on top due to two or three people arguing. Not only is bumping considerably less of a problem, but using smurfs to bump doesn't work well either. This system would be very complex and require fine-tuning, so unfortunately I can't go into much more detail due to lack of knowledge, testing and experience.
##"But some shitposts might be upvoted by the community, so they won't be deleted!"
Sure, that's a possibility, but in that case, would a Reddit system work any better? If a thread stays up long enough, it will be upvoted or downvoted, especially once the bandwagon gets going. If a thread starts receiving upvotes, it would pop up in the "Hot" category. Yes, a chronological system leaves the possibility of a well-liked shitpost staying up, but a Reddit system offers the possibility of a well-liked shitpost sitting on the front page.
##This system isn't perfect, but it works just as well, while letting GD keep its identity.
I'm not suggesting that this could replace moderation, but the only problems it shares happen under the Reddit system too. Yes, it could stomp out dissenting opinions, but so does the Reddit system. As mentioned before, community-liked shitposts are preserved, but the Reddit system would not only keep them but place them front and center, even on the front page. Maybe you don't like GD's identity, but that's not something a Reddit system can stomp out. People will get mad, people will still upvote low-quality threads that appeal to them and drive out those that don't conform to our community. On the other hand, a chronological system will allow the community to change over time with newcomers without stomping out the threads of those that don't post "dank memes."
#In Conclusion/TLDR
- Make "All-Chat" (or whatever you decide to call it) a chronological board.
- Hide/Delete posts, including both threads and comments, that receive too many downvotes. Alternatively, only do this to posts that receive a certain amount of downvotes per X time, views or upvotes. Threads would also gain less/nothing from being bumped multiple times by a small group of users, meaning threads used as an arguing ground or being bumped by a group of smurfs won't clog up the front page.
