PSA the laner controls his lane

So you listen to me if you want to gank my goddamn lane.

No I dont want to tower dive when im half hp and only level 4.

No I dont want to have to run to the middle of my lane to help you when I have a wave and a half under my turret.

No I dont want to assist a gank against the goddamn darius/renekton when Im a nasus at half hp and behind.

Im tired of junglers waltzing in when they feel like it and leaving my lane off worse than it was before. Hell, from now on I just wont assist the ganks, get with the program.

The saddest part of my games in high platinum is that my most common phrase is "youre banned from top"

It may not be the best line of thinking, but I go into my Top-lane games ASSUMING I won't be getting any ganks from my JG. It usually doesn't turn OUT that way, but it makes it easier on me when I assume I'm basically a lone-wolf.

Because there have been more times than I can count when my JG unceremoniously shows up, and then gives me guff for not aiding him or her when I didn't KNOW they were coming!

I try to pay attention to the mini-map, I really do. But sometimes things aren't going your way, and thus you are required to put your FULL attention on the goings-on in your OWN lane.

This is like a game I played yesterday where my friend and I were getting 2v3'd bot lane, we both made it to our tower and we had like half HP and I had no mana and our nunu comes up from behind them and literally runs at all 3 of them, doesn't really do anything and then died. Then he said "wtf" as I informed him that A) I didn't have enough to go back in to follow up and B) I didn't even see him coming because I was focusing on trying to escape

then he just says "u have autoattacks and i pinged 400 times"

Reminds me of a time when I was playing top.

Darius (Me)

Hecarim (JG)

Due to some goofs, I end up on the wrong side of a trade, but manage to get away low, but still alive. Hecarim presumably sees my predicament and starts heading my way top. My opponent, on the other hand, had seemingly realized they weren't going to get me, and didn't act like they were going to dive for it, so they were backing off. I'm safely under our turret and halfway through recalling when Hecarim gives the "On My Way" ping. I ping my health to show I am far too low to be able to help him, and I stay put where I am.

Hecarim meanwhile, apparently decides.... http://i.imgur.com/pvCnUGc.gifv and goes All-in on my opponent, and proceeds to die.

I got "?" pinged incessantly for the next minute or so. (I had already muted his chat because he and the rest of the team were already flaming each other, and I just decided I wasn't dealing with it.)

I was a jungle main in season 5, and I'd actually virtually never gank the top lane unless it's really opportune. It was usually tanks up top, though.

It's usually a good idea to play based on the idea that you alone are responsible for winning your lane, and that help won't be coming. Your jungler may be occupied with other things, or they're playing a champion whose ganks wouldn't work out well (i.e. you're Nasus and want Evelynn to come gank enemy Darius)

SO MUCH GOD DAMN MOTHER EFFING FLIPPING FRACKING THIS.

I am not going to break my freeze to, at the very best, get a flash. And if the enemy laner is good and they have a massive wave advantage like that at early levels, they can usually go 1for1 if they really want (double kill in many cases too) and if they're a snowball champ, they don't mind that at all. Just wait until this minion wave is gone or come before it builds up but don't fucking gank when it's absolutely worst for me. That's not even mentioning a good jungler on the enemy team will notice his top laner pushed up and will be waiting around to countergank.

But yknow, jungle circle jerk is the absolute worst. They can do no wrong and they're just poor misunderstood players that are playing a role nobody forced them to main while being the most impactful.

as a player I feel your pain

as a jungle main though, having that label when our job is too be a support(albeit more violently) kinda sucks

But I won`t try to change your thoughts

Divewing5 votes

To a point he's right. Junglers and supports have a habit on the boards of white-knighting themselves, rooting the laners as the source of all problems.

I'm not disagreeing, but certainly watching a jungler farm his jungle while the enemy jungler is ganking every lane and cleaning neutral objectives every 5 minutes, and ours then says: "guys wtf, just play safe", it makes me want to break a lamp.

I don't expect you to carry my lane, or feed me blues, or take every dragon, but you better at least take their red when they get a double botside

I am a jungle main. I am pretty bad, but at the same time, I've been jungling since season 4 and I've seen some really fucking awful junglers do that kinda crap. Junglers are not immune to being wrong or making shit decisions, it happens all the time.

I also play lanes quite often and I just facepalm whenever a jungler comes top to gank, we get a kill, and then he decides to mess with my minion wave even more when I'm trying to freeze it

i once had a Khazix try to gank my lane when i was lv2 Nasus with wave-and-half minions under my turret at 1/2 health. Enemy was lv3 Darius with full health. I didnt follow up. Kha killed himself. And he kept calling me a retard the entire game for not following up. I lost that game, apparently.

I understand your sentiment, however I disagree with your course of actions.

I think a better course of actions is to offer to the jungler a phrase such as:

"I believe your assistance is better used elsewhere now, I will manage for now"

And make sure to tell them the second you believe that their help will only hinder.

Mission success, sometimes you have to put your foot on the fucking ground

Oelyk5 votes

I think it is better to identify the moment in which you realize jungle assistance is a hinderance, as the jungle might be reluctant to back off if they already took the time and planning to come to your lane to just drop it all.

That way you can avoid a negative interaction that creates tension and distrust between teammates.

Or the jungler can have some common sense and back off when they get a retreat ping because clearly the laner isn't feeling it. I don't understand why this is such a difficult concept. If one party says no, the gank should absolutely not happen.

It is understandable to be angry or feel victimized when someone deliberately ignores you and proceeds with their, for you, questionable play. However in hence you ignoring each other and refusing to work together only creates friction and discontent on your team, you made an enemy in a team member, and them an enemy of you. In the words of a man you may be very familiar with, "A house divided against itself cannot stand." The same is for your team, kindness is the glue and trust is your nails.

Perhaps the simplest way to say this is that, condemning others for their actions make you focus not on improvement of one's self, but sabotaging of one's team.

I apologize if you find this unhelpful, and will stop trying to force you to adapt to my beliefs.

Lauchmelder3 votes

I'd rewrite this post, because like that it boils down to:

The jungler is deciding on what to do and if his laners ignore that command then he's entitled to throw a hissy fit.

I had to tell my Rengar 15 times that I don't want the bluebuff because I wasn't sure that I could stay alive in my last Azir game.

Junglers might have a better view on the map but in a lot of cases know jack about a lane.

If his laner doesn't want him to come then he should stay away. His toplaner has a better view on his own lane.

Junglers want the teams help when they get invaded but don't want to respect their teammembers decisions. That's not how teamwork works.

Oelyk3 votes

A fair course of actions. Thank you for your wisdom.

Automated Riven2 votes

yeah. usually after the enemy laner gets a kill on me I just tell the jungle to snowball a winning lane. I can survive under tower without dying without a dive. so if the rest of the map is gonna win its a gain for us

Tuffnar1 votes

As a frequent jungler its usually the opposite. 0/5 illaoi 10 minutes in never ganked by the enemy once. "gg no ganks"

Automated Riven1 votes

thats cause most people think that they are gods gift to mankind and need to solo carry in order to win. I happen to understand that my adc or mid lane that is winning requires a lot less investment to win harder when I need at least 2 successful ganks to get back to even (due to lost cs and a level disadvantage and early kill) and I know my riven well enough that I can farm my way back into the game given enough time but I just need my midlane/adc to snowball to deal with my fed lane.

Simply put snowballing an advantage is far more useful then trying to clog the holes.

Sraeg20132 votes

"I believe your assistance is better used elsewhere now, I will manage for now"

Sadly an average jungler doesn't understand half of those words.

The message that almost always gets across is "Don't gank my lane". Can also add "fucking" somewhere in there for a 100% intended result.

Your jungler pings he's coming for a gank. You ping your ability is still on an 8s CD. Jungler proceeds with the gank immediately anyway, and it doesn't work out because you were Nautilus and pinged your friggin' Q! (replace Naut with any champ who has an initiation tool/strong ability on a CD)

Cheekynorth2 votes

For some initiation on Q champs: Fiora Jax Irelia LeeSin (doesn't always go in lane, though) Shaco (same as Lee) Talon (somewhat) Vayne

It's not just a problem top lane. Here is a situation I just had in a game as Taric supporting Vayne against Zyra and Ashe.

We were pushed under tower all game trying our best to farm and not feed the lane. Our Rammus comes rolling in at 7 minutes in with no items thinking he wants to help the struggling lane and I ping him back. He goes in anyways so we try to help him not feed a kill. Instead we feed them 3 kills.

Some more context: I had about 150 HP and enough mana for 1 spell cast. After the gank Rammus said "you guys needed to wait for the taunt to go in." To which I responded something along the lines of I was out of mana and couldn't really help so that was a stupid gank. He then told me all I had to do eat some damage so he could kill them. Does he not know that 1/4 hp at 7 minutes in with no items means you can't just eat some damage?

SanKakU3 votes

Although I wasn't the Rammus and I don't have a replay to see what happened, Rammus might have intended to just walk away from Zyra and Ashe while his W was still giving him bonus resistances. And all of a sudden the champions that he meant to have healing up while he created a distraction get themselves killed! Something like that has happened to me. I go in as a tank just to create some havoc and annoy the enemies...and other times I go in wanting kills. It's all just whatever. You shouldn't feel obligated to help with the gank, but jungle players need to be more respectful of their opponents and not bite off more than they can chew. The nice thing about playing tanks IMO is you can go in more often and survive even if you didn't kill anything. If you rattle your opponents, they might make mistakes later, so a failure to kill them isn't always a failure for the gank itself.

AlienPrimate2 votes

Going in as rammus at 7 minutes into the game with no items against a Zyra who has been sitting in one spot for 2 minutes with the maximum plants possible in the area and an Ashe and expecting to get away after rattling them is insanity. Knowing it won't work and doing it anyways is just stupid. He was going in with full intent expecting us to help him in a 3v2. My guess is he didn't even look at the lane before he went in to see we were both under half health and both completely out of mana. In that situation, he should have gone around the back side up the lane and covered tower for us while we heal up.

Glory ln Death2 votes

I feel like, if you're going in just to harass them, you probably need to tell the laner(s) that before you get there. A quick "just harassing - don't follow up" would keep most of those situations from happening.

ModCaptainMårvelous3 votes

Ok, but let's also agree for the inverse.

It's not the jungler's job to win the laner's lane for them. A jungler can help but they're not your always-active "call in an assist character".

It's not the jungler's job to stick to one lane. There are three lanes, all with gank opprotunities. Demanding a gank when they're bot isn't going to happen instantly.

It's not the jungler's job to always help. There are times when triaging a lane is pointless or efforts are better spent elsewhere. Going top to help the 0/6 guy is likely going to end in a double kill.

Like laners do have control over their lane and rightfully so. But fuckin' hell if it doesn't feel like losing a lane right now feels like "Whelp better blame my jungler for not assisting me when he/she was bot."

Knalxz2 votes

Jungle Mains:That's fair but you have to stop taking my blue buff when I recall.

SanKakU3 votes

Knalxz2 votes

Last time I checked the enemy Jungler wasn't on my team ignoring my pings to back off and my texts telling them I need it and them replying "I need it more." Taking it then within the next minute dying to the enemy laner giving them the buff.

If you're behind, let the jungler figure out a way to help you, don't just go running through the damn jungle taking as many camps as you see fit then going back into lane because all you've done is make it harder for the jungler and unlike a gank where EXP and gold is shared, just farming the jungle only nets you one person bonuses.

SanKakU2 votes

Well, not to mention every large monster someone takes would've been bonus experience for the guy with the jungle item.

Jesus is Savior1 votes

If, however, you spam ping me to go away, yet I'm strong enough to 1v1 your opponent as the fed jungler, and you literally just stand there and CS as I run in, even though you were literally standing right beside him (ie: you didn't even need to run half a screen away through a huge wave), then YOU are the problem.

I DO need to gank lanes. Once my camps are dead the respawn timers are so high that I'll literally just be standing around doing nothing for 60 seconds if "no one wants me to gank"

SanKakU5 votes

You can do some warding. You can look for the other jungle and duel him. You can deny the enemy the chance to eat river fruit. There's always something to do.

OMGSoAnnoying2 votes

True story. You don't NEED to gank. If the opportunity is there? Sure, take it. If not, there's plenty you can do:

  1. Ward or take neutral objectives. If you're fed, soloing dragon should be a cakewalk.
  2. Ward the enemy jungle, or gank approaches. If you have a sweeper, sweep out their river vision or gank approach vision.
  3. Locate the enemy jg. If you can kill them easily, sure... do it. Otherwise, note where they are.
  4. If they're showing, take some of their camps. Counter jungling is especially powerful now that the camp timers are long. Bonus dick move points if you clear their whole jungle while they're trying to 2v1 your top laner and failing.
  5. If your team has a pushing lane, go and help them push. You don't need to run that like a normal gank, just bring it like a small teamfight. If you're not in top lane and your top's TP is up, maybe you can make a collapse play, or the infamous super bot fiesta dive that nets FTB.
  6. If worse comes to worst, just go back and buy if you can. You can always afford another control ward, and it denies the enemy jg knowledge of where you are... they're not going to find you in your base that early.
llIllIllIllIll1 votes

You control your lane, the jungler controls the map - unless you have some knowledge of where the enemy JG is that your JG does not refusing to go in on the 2v1 is stupid

If it requires the laner to miss out on a wave+ size of minions to the tower then fuck that gank.

Jungler is just setting that laner behind more by trying to force a gank, a gank that 100% fails because the laner is behind a level and enemy has minions to back him up.

OMGSoAnnoying2 votes

I'll agree with that.

I jg a lot, and I try to not force a gank. There's more map than just the lanes. If I see a laner fighting, I'll try and go there if I'm close enough.

My last game jg, I spent a ton of time top. Why? Our botlane was doing fine, our midlane Heimer was just stomping... and our top lane Trynd had been counterpicked by Satan himself. I kept dragon dead, and otherwise farmed my jg (and some of my opponent's), and ganked top whenever I had the chance. Why? Because Teemo can't blind two people at once, dammit ;p I got Trynd fed... and I got fed as Vi.

After that, it was objectives, keep up pressure, and just win. BTW, a fed Tryndamere draws metric asstons of response when he's split pushing with Rift Herald buff ;p

Not all of them. There are times when a jungler wants to gank and I consent to it and usually those are very good and productive ganks on average.
