Does ELO Hell exist?

I don't think so. Peaked G5 last season, ended at S1. Got placed in Bronze 1, 0LP and I'm already 2/0 in my promos in less than 10 games.

Maybe, just maybe, if you were good enough to get out of Bronze, you'd be able to do it.

Or maybe I'm lucky and just got the good teammates... like the Yi that autolocked Jungle into Mundo and went AFK for the first 10 minutes... or the Anivia that went AFK at level 4...

Can't carry those nubs amirite?

yes and no. elohell isnt "the place where your teammates are so bad you cant win" elohell is the place where your knowledge and skill reaches its limit. a new player would end up in bronze 5. and he couldnt get out of there. but if he plays for a few month he might climb up to silver 5. but he needs more knowledge and bla bla you get the idea

The game is luck, OK? It's the luck of the draw. If you get more teams with feeders and trolls and DCs and just outright retards then you won't win unless your skill is far, FAR above the level you're at.

In THEORY to get out of Bronze (the lowest division in ranked) you should only need to be decent at the game. You should only have to be Silver level in order to climb above Bronze. That's what Silver MEANS. Bronze, as the absolute lowest division, is supposed to be reserved for the absolute worst players, the ones who literally have no idea what they're doing, the retards who call "bgff20omgthisnoobteamImdoneafk" after first blood, the intentional feeders and trolls, the Vayne mains who tumble into the enemy 1v5 then curse out their teammates for not following them, the supports who rush AP and think wards are for %%%s. Instead, Bronze is a melange of these losers AND all the quite decent but not brilliant players who get stuck in there with them thanks to their uselessness, because while they can play well enough for themselves, they can't carry that kind of rubbish (and honestly shouldn't be expected to). You SHOULD only have to be Silver level to get out of Bronze; instead you have to be effectively PLAT to carry the kind of garbage that clings to your thighs and sucks you down into the bog. So the only real way to get out of Bronze if you're not a TOP tier player is luck. Luck that the feeders and trolls end up on the enemy team more often than yours.

The logic is indisputable. If you think it's reasonable that you need to be far above Silver-level just to GET to Silver level, then you've got rocks in your head.

Silver 5-silver 2 is essentially all bronze players who got lucky. I can attest to this having climbed out of it.

So many players in silver aren't actually silver; they're just flat out trash and belong in bronze. This is where I claim luck comes in. You're bad at the game, so if you're lucky you can make it to silver. But if you're unlucky you stay in bronze. But if you're worth anything you'll be better than bronze players, and thus you'll probably be better than the majority of silver players as well, which means you'll get to high silver/gold or maybe even higher without a problem.

Basically yes you can make it to higher tiers based on luck. But if you're bad then you'll get stuck there. It does suck people who don't deserve silver can get into it, but if you actually deserve silver then you'll probably make it to gold simply because the vast majority of it is trash.

I don't know the bottom ranked tiers are a giant fuckfest that I despised climbing out of. Mid silver was awful with all the retards but at least it got better moving on.

I am constantly surprised at the inability and sheer anger displayed by silver ranked accounts when playing normal blind pick games. I have been keeping track. The chance of a lost game goes up with each silver on the team. The silver player is ~60% likely to harass teammates. The silver player is ~70% likely to be the biggest feeder on the team.

In contrast, bronze or unrated players are ~90% likely to be the most friendly teammate and ~60% likely to receive an honorable mention, and I have only good things to report about 100% of the gold or higher tier players in normal blind pick games.

100% of all statistics without sources are very accurate

FuntaC1 votes

100% true. It is erroneous or falsified source data that causes 99% of the problem. Eliminating source data makes the facts unquestionably true.

I can agree with this. Sometimes after a PARTICULARLY shit game, where our team was lost by a retard of almost indescribably uselessness, I take a look at their profile. Surprisingly often I'm shocked to discover that they're actually SILVER (I'm Bronze, although I was Silver in season 4 when the LP wasn't completely fucked), meaning they're higher ranked than me even though I'm so far out of their league skill- and intelligence-wise that they couldn't see me with a telescope. Seriously, some of these retards are so useless that they shouldn't be allowed to play ranked.

This is the primary factor that convinces me that rank is basically meaningless (below Platinum at least). My friend is in Gold (or was last season anyway) and he constantly bitches to me about how retarded the players he has to put up with are. I mean, I know I'm not in Bronze because I'm necessarily worse than every single player in both Silver and Gold. But that's what Bronze is SUPPOSED to mean, otherwise it wouldn't be lower than them. So basically, over half the rank system is a complete joke.

The truth in a nut shell

Elo Hell is real It is not what you think it is Elo hell is the emotional and mental mindset that you are stuck in a elo because everyone around you is legitimately bad and constantly holding you back.

The reason why you feel this way. You probably are not bad, but you lack the skills and mind set to full carry your team. You lack the understanding of what needs to be done to win games. You also expect to be carried instead of realizing you need to carry every game

Fact is, near every loss you suffer is your fault, and it should always be seen as this way.

What you should be doing Take every loss and win into great review and examine why things happened, and think about everything that you could of done better. Think about what you want to learn and improve on. Constantly seek out your own weakness instead of the ones of your teammates.

TLDR-your elo is not hell, your mind set is hell

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

Rubbish. I really, really HATE the mindset that "every game you lose is your fault" because it's such obvious bullshit. It's victim blaming.

LoL is not fucking Street Fighter. LoL is not even Starcraft. LoL is a TEAM game, which means you are responsible only for your own performance, but your own performance is NOT the only factor that determines victory! Yes, you can't just expect to be carried to win, but if you do everything right, don't make any mistakes and perform your role to a satisfactory standard for the level of the game you're playing at (you should NOT be expected to play like Faker if you're only playing a match in Bronze) then it's NOT your fault if your top Riven goes 0/7 before 10 minutes and your mid Cass goes afk because your jungle Tryndamere won't gank the enemy Zed for him and took blue for himself "for cooldowns". You can be 6/0/2 on your ADC and you're still gonna get fucking murdered once the enemy gets tired of kicking the shit out of your teammates because the game is not intended to be won by a single player. When this happens (and it DOES happen) you are in Elo Hell. You lose the game despite doing everything right and there was nothing you could have done about it.

Oh sure, you can say it was your fault for not being better than you are. You can say you deserved to lose because you're not Faker. Which is fucking retarded. And yes, you always need to keep trying to improve. But the thing is, you CAN actually be "good enough" to win the game you're in, but still lose it anyway because other players have a NEGATIVE effect on your team's performance. You CAN literally be the best player in the game and still lose. LoL is DESIGNED this way. If you deny this, you're literally denying reality. You're calling the world flat, the sky green, the moon a giant wheel of soft brie. And it really shits me off that so many people continue to cheerfully deny reality this way and dismiss anyone who's not so naive with "u mad cos u bad".

PhantomGG1 votes

You have no clue how life works, you will never understand how life works, and frankly I am glad you will be stuck in whatever elo you are in, for with your current mind set it is one of the most toxic things I have ever seen on the forums. Have a fun time never growing as a person or player.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

Pfft. Life. Don't talk to me about life you airy-fairy delusional dreamer. You think my attitude is "toxic"? My attitude is CORRECT. You're talking absolute rubbish then taking a high-handed superior attitude while you continue to flatly deny reality so you can continue to try and make people feel bad about themselves for things that aren't their fault. I think the one with the attitude problem here is you.

So OK then, let me drop the logic bomb on you. Let's do this in steps to make it easy for you:

  1. You say that if I lose a game, then it can be no-one's fault but my own. I am solely responsible for the loss. Right?

  2. So answer me this: whose fault is it that my teammates lost the game?

  3. According to you, it's my fault they lost as well because the loss can't be anyone's fault but mine.

  4. So if one of them then comes and asks why they lost, you have to tell them... what? It was their fault? But how can it be their fault when it was already my fault we lost?

  5. ERROR! DOES NOT COMPUTE!

And so as I have proven with laughable ease, the idea that "you are the only one responsible for your wins and losses" is complete and utter bullshit.

Come back from THAT if you think you can!

Andrionar1 votes

In theory - kinda, but in practice - NO. If you want to play your own game, staying top and keeping to push, you will probably lose more games then you're wining. You can have whatever you want score and lose most of your games. If you deserved higher, then lets say bronze-gold, you should be able to get fed in almost every game and snowball other lanes as soon as possible.

If you're unlucky and got matches with very weak team, you should try to split push and take inhibitor, becouse in low elo, people have no map awarness.

Edited: also, don't forget that towers, 5 drakes and baron can win you a game .

Thats is only partially true. I have witnessed games where a team won, simply becuse the Top-Laner (for example Tryndamere Nasus Singed ) kept pushing the lane and eventually got to the Inhibs, so the defending taem had to back and give up crucial objectives they were unable to obtain 5v4. At least this is very possible in lower ELOs (Bronze-Gold). Sad as it sounds: Teamplay is important - but not always they key to victory.

Thats totaly possible. If your team won't die fast enought in 4vs5, becouse there not much chance that they won't fight, even if you ask.

There is a grind in what ever elo you play in. How it is. If you're bad you're bad, if you're good, you climb.

Not realy. I was istill in silver within 250 games, with an average 4 kda. I started prioritizing objectives and got to platinum in 25 games, but didn't played since.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

Not really. You can be good and still go nowhere because LoL by design is not won or lost based on the skill of a single individual. If there was a champ who could carry an entire game 1v5 on their own, Riot would nerf the shit out of them.

PhantomGG2 votes

I guess faker got number 1 and into the lcs by pure luck then.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

The fact that you think Faker plays in the "LCS" shows that you're not really in a position to be arguing...

PhantomGG2 votes

you legit believe success is all luck, and its pretty funny.

Arcane Azmadi1 votes

I KNOW that luck is an important factor at success in the lower divisions where you aren't even guaranteed that the players you get on your team will have even basic knowledge of the fundamentals of the game. Faker doesn't have to deal with that shit, because the players he gets matched with are all high level like him, so he can be pretty damn sure they're not going to feed like fuckery because they're too retarded to stop.

I didn't say ALL luck. But luck is incredibly important at low ranks, where one moron can ruin your game and waste your time. This is MUCH less unlikely to happen at Platinum and higher- the kind of player who's so bad he's effectively on your opponents' team wouldn't even BE at Platinum unless they bought their account.

Yes, it's called plat 5.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

It only exists part of the time (for good players) and all the time for players Trying to improve.

That place is called bronze V

The reason it is elo hell?

When riot removed ELO and added hidden mmr and shit and the new system, they grouped everyone from 1000 elo or below and put them In bronze. Silver was 1200-1500 ish and gold was 1500-2000 (and so on and so forth)

The problem here is the bronze V gap. Anyone with hidden elo of 1000 or below is bronze five.

THAT MEANS that EVERY SINGLE person (before new ranked) that was 0 ELO (it was a thing) was in the same bracket as anyone with 1000 ELO. which for players Trying to improve: creates ELO hell forever.

The temporary ELO hell exists every new season with placements because everyone places so substantially low that you can't tell if your playing with/against people of your actual skill level or not(it lasts about 1-2 months then you can carry yourself out again)

DexterousGecko1 votes

the fact is, some people will experience bad luck and get feeding teammates more than others. I have two buddies. Both very similar ability. One guy had a stretch right after placements of 10 good games in a row. Got silver, can't be demoted to bronze again. Other guy took 50 games. I think it's been proven that to get out of the tier, you have to win a minimum of 4 games in a row right? That said, i've seen people with obviously higher mmr's be instantly promoted, but it's rare. All in all in dont think elo hell exists, but the levels of play from two adjoining tiers can be basically identical. obviously the higher you go up, the less this is true
