I think it's time to look at Ryze again

Ryze's winrate has been consistently low throughout the entire time this iteration of his kit has been out, and that's with an okay playrate. I understand he can feel really powerful, and I enjoy the moments when I do, but I can't help but feel like his ult is sucking way too much power out of his kit's power budget for how little it actually does for Ryze

you need to actually dig into the real stats instead of looking at the overall win rate my man...experienced Ryze players who actually know what they are doing have a whopping 58.31% winrate

he is far from weak when you actually know what you're doing

Dig deeper, and you'll see that experienced Ryze players make up 1.16% of the actual playerbase. High win rate doesn't mean jack shit for a small sample size.

Did you know that Yorick Mori actually was 100% win rate in challenger at one point? Wow! OP OP.

here's the thing though. It may be a small sample of subjects, but the number of trials wasn't small. We have a set group of players that are able to maintain a 58.31% win rate over hundreds of games, that's not the same as 2 dudes that won 2 games of Yorick each or whatever.

When you have a set group of people doing consistently well over a very large number of trials, it strongly suggests that the champion is in a good place. When you have a bunch of players with less experience and less dedication doing bad at the champion then that suggests that a large amount of the playerbase does not play the champion to it's full potential, which is not often a reason to make changes.

So players who put time and effort should be punished? 58.31% seems reasonable for people who spent 125+ games in ranked. Note the plus, could be well into the hundreds. FotM champions do well with less experienced players, while being very popular. How is that fair?

58.31% is actually pretty average for players who put 125+ games into a champion, maybe a tad higher than average but not much. Is it great? Not notably, but it's also farrrr from bad. All Ryze's low winrate suggests (when taking the 125+ win rate into account) is that he's a more difficult champion than most.

Overall, he's in a pretty good spot right now. Much more so than previous iterations anyways.

Agreed. Last version was too oppressive with resets on w.

Wanna know the funny thing?

First. "Ryze too OP." - Rito Second "EXPERIENCED RYZE PLAYERS WHO KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING ARE TOO BROKEN WHILE NEWBIE RYZE PLAYERS SUCK SOOOOO BAD. Nerf him to the ground. Now." - Rito Third...

experienced Ryze players who actually know what they are doing have a whopping 58.31% winrate

=P

I think the current iteration of Ryze is pretty on point to be honest. He's a comparatively difficult champion who doesn't find success with the inexperienced but is certainly powerful in the right hands, nothing wrong with that :3

His ult makes no sense for the type of character he is - it should be on a roaming support champion like Bard.

His old ult made sense and I still don't get why they got rid of it.

can bard have both ults? he needs it imo

Because his ult was hard to balance.

Well Ryze is still like one of the best mid laners if you play him well.

Ryze is high skillcap and in a game where manaless exist, he is not going to flourish until later

he fukin goes oom in the first or 2nd trade l0l

This is one of the things I hate about Ryze, especially considering how unsafe he is to trade with in mid early on. Compare him to a champion like Syndra, who automatically makes you have to fuck off as soon as she gets 6 or you die. It's just frustrating

Don't worry he is getting nerfed next patch. And will probably get his 4th rework within a year.

I think the problem with Riot is that they are trying to balance a champion to remain high skill cap while keeping the majority of his kit as point and click. Keeping two of his abilities point and click forces them to cut corners with his ult and playstyle, and he only seems to work in the higher echelons of ranked/pro play, where your team can actually take advantage of your kit
