I don't have any stats, but I'f I had to guess is that far more games are won by 30 minute throws than anything else. People seem to think it's impossible to lose after they win a teamfight it two around 20 minutes and start doing weird things. So if we don't surrender at 20 I'm normally in it for the long hall.
Granted that doesn't mean I want to teamfight them. So depends on where you are heading with your inspirational speech.
To be fair, and keep in mind this really only applies to low elos (bronze-silver and sometimes even low gold), throws happen extremely often. I've won game where we are 5-32. Hell, even recently I won a game where every lane fed, simply because we could hold them long enough for myself to get farmed (Vayne adc) and get us into the late game. we didn't have any nexus towers and had taken non of their towers and drags were our 1 to their 3 and we were still able to win because low elos don't know how to close games.
There's also the fact that you have to look at team comps. Does your team have a lot of waveclear to be able to stall out the game enough for you to catch up? Do you have defensive tanks (not dive-orientated tanks) to help against tower dives? Do you have a team that scaled better into late game than they do? A lot of times it's easy to win even from behind simply because
Now I'm not saying you should never surrender, I'm just saying it's not always a hopeless cause simply cuz you got roflstomped in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Once, we were losing terribly. They had our inhins at 20 minutes. Someone tried to surrender. It failed 1/4. They asked why. We all pulled out a bunch of "weeb" quotes. One of them was "Heroes never die". We started spamming that in all chat. The enemy team goaded us, they laughed at us, but they couldn't take our Nexus, even with Baron. We won that game. And in the post game screen, we spammed, "HEROES NEVER DIE".
I won an hour and a half game after I was the deciding vote to ff. Never fucking surrender, it's pussy shit. There is always a chance to win no matter the rank.
I have seen a 36-6 game get turned around, turtling, waveclearing and making picks can turn a game COMPLETELY around.

If I wanna surrender if the game is CLEARLY lost, but there are idiots that refuse to surrender why would I want to help them and drag on a losing match?

I agree. The only time I even want to surrender is when I don't want to play with my teammates anymore. Either because they are incomprehensibly bad and I fear for my sanity, or more commonly because they don't seem to be trying anymore. And it's ironic that people that aren't trying are more likely to be the ones that don't want to surrender. You can tell by taking turns activating the surrender vote. Anyone that doesn't activate it is refusing to give up. And if they're the ones just watching their teammates do the work, they aren't a clone of Naruto, I can guarantee you that.
