What do you actually want to see from the Diver update?

there's a lot of hype for it but what do you actually want to see from these champs? I.e what should be added to their kit, what should be lost or replaced, and what already exists that you think can be improved on?

XinZhao I think his Challenge mechanic could be made more interesting. Since his character is about overcoming odds, give him an easier time jumping to separate enemies while retaining his single-target damage. Enable him to challenge multiple enemies at a time, and reward him for managing to stay on those target more than just giving him armor reduction. Make him feel like a guy who can really pull off crazy 1v5s if he plays well.

Aatrox He feels a little bit too tied to his W; he should feel more like a strong warrior than a vampire sword. He doesn't really have a lot of mechanics, and IMO he's a little too straightforward with his kit. I'd like to see changes to his passive, W and R; I think his Q and E are fine, aside from their low scaling and general clunkiness

Nocturne I think he has a strong foundation, but with how crazy new champions have been getting, he feels a bit too basic since his kit is mostly just steroids. He would be great just by enhancing what he's got already; I think his passive and base spells deserve some tweaks, if not just to make them more high-impact or more interesting.

What do you guys want from the Diver rework? Who are you most excited to see on the update list?

Diana

Would like something to help separate her from her assassin like playstyle. Nothing too extreme. Though I think swapping her ult and E (and strengthening them respectively) could work well so she isn't reliant on a level 6 dive. Instead she'd be reliant on a level 6 "stay with me you bastard"

LeeSin

Idk honestly. I'd like there to be some change with him.

I feel like I've got an unpopular opinion but I've always fancied Diana as more of an assassin. Her kit doesn't really seem fighter-ish to me, when she's primarily about hitting a combo for high burst. The only part of it that seems otherwise is her W, but I sort of lump that in as making her more hybrid-like, similar to Rengar; where they give up escape potential for durability to try and tank their way out.

I don't feel like her current kit would feel very good at all if it was simply pushed to sustained damage.

Irelia Bot2 votes

She ends up playing more like an assassin mainly because her ult ends up having no real cooldown when used right.

Make her passive always do flat per level + .25 AP instead of being a huge spike of damage every third strike, her ult have something like a 80% cooldown reduction when used on a marked enemy and you have in turn drastically slowed down her kill speed. This will open her to having other elements of her kit improved or expanded on.

Big Lincoln1 votes

Yeah, I guess the passive would work out better that way; I kinda like the big swing she makes every third hit, but that could probably be made to feel better than just extra damage, couldn't it?

Akali is SO HOT2 votes

I would love it if Riot didn't ruin Irelia like they ruined Akali

Has the divers update even been confirmed? Last I heard the next update could still be Vanguards as well

Big Lincoln2 votes

Either way, discussion isn't a bad thing. Maybe Riot will take ideas into consideration

also as much as i enjoy a handful of tanks i doubt that i'm going to like the tank update, if the boards' opinions on what should change is any influence to them

Irelia Bot1 votes

It has not been confirmed.

I believe it was Meddler who said that The Diver class of champs need it more but vangards need the itemization improvements more.

So it is still up in the air as to which class is actually going to get attention first.

They already stated sol and a atrox are getting mini reworks

{You want to buff Xin? I can't take you seriously past that point. Diver update should give MonkeyKing buffs to his Passive/Q and maybe even W. His early game is really shitty.

Big Lincoln1 votes

i can't take you seriously if you don't understand the point of a rework

xin needs to be less one-dimensional; that means he's gotta change a little bit. His passive is probably the easiest/best thing to work with without completely changing a spell or two.

wukong definitely needs some changes too. kinda hate dealing with him as he is now but he's also really bad a majority of the time

Sun Wu Ryuumoku1 votes

Wukong don't need a buff... But yeah he need a rework, his w is shitty (animation...), same for his no passive.

Linna Excel1 votes

IMO Aatrox probably needs a full gameplay update. I doubt he'll be in a diver update. IDK if Xin would be fixable in something as small as a class update either.

I'm thinking Jarvin, Pantheon, Hecaram, and Lee sin would be tweaked the most. Jarvin seems like he needs a fix and a mid level fix would help him. Wukong would probably get smaller work. I think Pantheon and Hec would see their skill floor raise. Lee needs a rework, but he's probably going to be one of the hardest champs for riot to rework.

Sun Wu Ryuumoku1 votes

they already say Aatrox will not receive a full gameplay update, but he'll be a major update candidate during divers rework. Wukong was in major with Aatrox, Xin, Diana & Pantheon. Lee sin don't need so much, same for JIV and poney

I would love to see Xin rework, tbh. Make this champ more interesting and more fun. Because jumping one people bursting them isn't exactly fun. He needs a new face!

I also would like partial Irelia rework. I mean, she is fun but some says she is OP, some says she is bad. I seriously don't know. She is average for me and she is very fun to play. Something fresh on her would be fine. But I don't think they will do something to her. (Is she even a diver?)

I want to see new Warwick, I am curios what they will do with him. (again, I don't even know if he is a diver)

Maybe some more things, of course Aatrox rework, give him something new, he is not really that fun. xD

Also, what would you add to Nocturnes kit? He is in good shape in my opinion, I mean, he is not bad but he is not that fun to play, too. Would like to hear what would you change. :)

Yeah, feels a bit too much unreliable, more like anti-diver not actually diver stun.

I've always been of the opinion that League is too tame and doesn't get wild enough with champions, and Nocturne seems like a champ with a lot more potential

so for nocturne I'd kinda like them to play on the thematic of being.. well, scary. stuff like making him be able to spawn dusk trails on multiple people, or changing his fear somehow so he can tether more than 1 person. imo he should be very good at chaining kills together, jump from person to person after they're dead

You mean mindgames? Yeah, that would be both fun and good. He has something like that on ult, but utilizing something like that on other abilities would be a great idea. How about his defensive options? Would you change his spellshield? Maybe give him new passive for defensive when he dives? Or would you like more offensive approach?

I'm not too sure what I would do for Nocturne's W. the bonus attack speed is great by its own merit, but it feels a little redundant on a champion who already builds 2 attack speed items.

I think it'd be fun if his W instead let him absorb a spell and then cast it himself.

I don't think that this will ever happen. Maybe something like Fiora's W, but this, not really. Some champions are balanced around not having certain options, let's say hard CC. If he could get any spell from blocking it it may make him OP. But I really like the idea!

Also, I don't like that he builds attack speed. I would like him to build more damage, less attack speed and more tanky items. But he would be like assassin that way, I think. But his passive attack speed should be enought for him if he got new kit. Dunno, really.

it's broken, but I'm a little annoyed by how same-y new champions have been. I want Riot to get a little more wild with champions, is all.

I find Ivern and Camille unique, actually xD

Really hope riot will rework Divers during mid year update. Mainly with Camille and the futur WW update, other will be more outdated.

Anyway i can't wait for :

MonkeyKing My main (otp here)... need to add something for outplay more, and to be less one dimentional. But he should stay the diver closest to assassins class.

Aatrox cool thematic, cool design... i think he'll keep his R. I think he should keep management beetween damage or sustain. Diver hybrid skirmishers like Camille.

But i hope these two chars'll stay as niche pick.

XinZhao Diana seems interesting too

I want to see Hecarim changed from a tanky-thing into a move-speed-highdamage-thing

Like, lets be honest, Hecarims passive is utter dogshit. Getting him to have a high movespeed means he won't be tanky and he still won't have the damage to kill anything as if he were full ad. His ad q's scaling sucks ass and is only really used to proc sheen when your e is down. His e isn't used for the damage and the rest of his abilities are AP.

The idea of being this fast moving undead centaur is negated in game when he is this thing that uses his e to cc someone and get into position and ult several people then stand in the middle of them all like a dumbass spamming his q and autos while his team does everything else for him.

I want riot to make getting movespeed and damage on him more rewarding so his gameplay goes more in line with his lore as being this fast moving horseman who chops men in half with a single swipe of his glaive and runs down batallions of soldiers with his undead riders, killing quickly and leaving no survivors.

Big Lincoln1 votes

ya agreed on Hecarim, he really doesn't fit the thematic. could stand to be more 'flighty' I guess, make him able to run around people

i just want to see it not be as shit as the assassin update

New Diver items.

Specifically reworking item 3075 into a Diver item. item 1043 item 1029 item 1031 Grants IAS, 40 OnHit magic damage, armor, and- UNIQUE passive: Your basic attacks apply stacks of Rent to enemy units (2 for melee, 1 for ranged) up to 10. For each stack of Rent, you reflect (percentage) of the target's pre-mitigation physical damage as magic damage.

Now the thing actually serves a purpose and can be buffed because it's interactive. Counter-play? Don't let Irelia dive you.

While we're at it, I would love to see Ionic Spark (item 1011 item 1043 ) come back in some form.

Big Lincoln1 votes

that seems kind of weird, to be honest.

you could probably pass that off as a separate item; I think Thornmail is alright as its own thing, it should just have more components (be a bigger item, generally) and have an active like blademail so it has gated power

The thing about Thorn is that is hasn't ever been a Tank item, not really. It helps you soak more damage, sure, but that alone doesn't make something a Tank item. Tank items, when made well, make you more of a threat to the enemy team. They make it necessary to focus you. Or at least more desirable to focus you. Some do it with auras, some do it with CC, some do it with damage, some just give you tons of cooldown reduction so you can spam your CC more.

Thorn does none of that.

In fact, Thorn actively discourages auto-attackers from focusing you.

So it isn't a Tank item. It's an item to help durable champions effectively duel AD-focused enemies. And that's more along the MO of a Diver or a Juggernaut than a Tank. It used to do this really well, but since Riot gutted the thing it's only really useful on champs with armor steroids to make the most of it. And most champs with armor steroids would be better served buying something like Sunfire, Deadman's, or Omen since stacking resist without HP to back it up is silly.

Making Thorn a Diver item that requires stacking to be fully effective would allow the damage return to be tuned more easily. There would be actual ways to play around it. And just as importantly, buying it makes the user more of a threat because they're getting a decent chunk of OnHit damage out of the deal.

I don't think Thorn would really work in League as a more direct counterpart to the DotA equivalent. DotA by design has massively more powerful item actives than League does. It would be hard to find a balance point between 'broken' and 'negligible'. And even then, an item that reflects damage with an active would be more desirable on offensive champs who want to discourage focus. Still not a Tank item.
