Do Hextec boxes always drop with S ?
I just had an S with a champion (checked that i had boxes available with it) but didn't get any, i also have 3 boxes remaining to get.
Don't they always drop with S ratings ?

Remember that you can only get a box PER champion.
So if for example, you got a box as Morgana, you CANNOT get another box as Morgana until next season.
This forces players to try and obtain boxes with all champions possible, punishing one trick ponies from winning boxes.

which is the whole flaw in the system... as it makes people just que on a champ they have no idea how to play with a teammte who plays on thier main.. the teammate pick something like an top champ and chooses "support" and gets a box for is friend who chooses top for him.. and YES i know the system TRIES to prevent this... but its braindead simple to get around...
so instead of playing the 10 or so champs we LIKE to play, everyone decides to pick champs that have no idea how to play and play them in unranked.. and because ranked with worthless.. many of us who would NORMALLY play ranked exclusively (like myself) no only play unranked.. and because of this i an getting teammates and opponents who have no idea how to play their champ. this coupled with the fact that because ranked is so worthless no high elo player wants to risk losing their rank by playing ranked in a broken system, so they all my smurfs to stop us lower elos players. and those smurfs are who is carrying the friends who don't know how to play their champ.
Most top champs make poor supports, so that wouldn't be particularly effective.
If you're suggesting the person queued as support actually just goes top and plays as a top laner (and the person queued as top goes support), they'll still get graded as a top laner and support respectively, since the system doesn't actually consider what role you were queued as (only the role you actually play - the system is smarter than you're giving it credit for).
The most reliable route to getting boxes would involve queueing with a friend who is a god on particular champion (e.g. OTPs) who'll probably manage an S regardless it's true, but trying to game the system with roles is unnecessary and unlikely to work.
Also people playing new champs in normals is prone to be considered a good thing, since that means more people will discover new champs they like, and they'll learn them there in normals instead of in ranked.
Actually, the system does think a bit of how you do.
Right now I'm spamming Tristana Top because it's my cheese to level 7. One more S or higher and I get her level 7.
BUt I think mostly because I'm 1v1 ing a tank with little to no CC, no engage/disengage and I can poke the crap out of them in the meantime while farming and acting as a 2nd adc.
Pretty much like Vayne/Quinn/Graves top, but less annoying and with a proper escape.
Playing a champ you main in an off-meta role can sometimes be easier to earn S grades on than playing it in it's meta role yes, since if you main the champ you can probably play around the weaknesses that make them not a meta choice.
You're still being grades as a tristana top though and only compared to other tristana tops, separate from tristana adcs. On one hand theres probably not that many trist top players so it's arguably easier to get good grades there, but on the other hand often times the only people who do play champs in off-meta roles are the ones who main those champs, and so the performances that do exist are actually pretty decent, and so getting S grades can be harder than expected.
For the most part things really all do balance out, since the whole being compared to the rest of the community on the same role/champ thing means you really do have to do better than the majority in a given combo, in contrast to if riot just set arbitrary standards to meet where cheesing grades in unusual roles where the cutoffs might be easier would be a far bigger issue.
Think about this this way, if Riot didn't want me to cheese with Tristana top, they should had gave me S when I ended up fed like 8/0/14, over 200 CS and taking down like 3-4 towers and 1-2 drakes about 6 times in the past.
Problem is that Riot depends SO MUCH from me being over diamond player (Especially in lower Elo) that the game expects me to be like 20/0, over 500 cs and doing the job of the entire team...
I'm exaggerating, but most of the times I get awesome scores and they never give me at least an S-. It just gets annoying after a while.
Reaching the top tier performances of meta champs in meta roles can be pretty crazy sometimes.
As a Janna sup main, I can go like 0/0/21 and get an A. Still, since it is relative to others, it just means that there are Janna gods who really are doing it even better, so even if I'm doing great in my plat mind, theres still plenty of room for me to aspire to shinier standards. (Although I actually usually do manage S-'s on Janna.)
True that, but sometimes it feels like the idea that our best efforts are meaningless because some diamond player playing the SAME champion is doing everything we do twice as better seems a bit demoralizing. You try harding for S rank while some guy in higher elo just gets it like a cow produces milk.
i haven't had any boxes drop in about a month.
Edit: i have 4 available and have received numerous S's through june but never got any chests this month.
You only can get 1 box per champion per season. But you can get 4 boxes a month as long as you have a champion you own but haven't received a box on them yet and get an S rank of any kind with them.
So with that in mind it is possible to get 48 free chests from getting S ranks on 48 different champions.

i know, what i said is that i had 3 boxes remaining and haven't gotten a box with that champion yet.
Do you own the champion in question? If not you can't get a hextech chest with them.

ah yes, forgot to say, but i do own the champion, in fact that match announced i unlocked the lvl6 mastery but never got it.
Then I guess the big question is: Have you already received a Hextech Chest with that champion? If so, and I'm guessing its very likely that you already have... That champion can no longer get you a Hextech Chest until next season.

as i said, i checked and i still have a box available for that champion (still haven't gotten it with it yet) i own the champion and have all 4 boxes available
