Zyra needs a new Passive.

One of my Ideas for her passive when they talked about reworking her was to make it so she can use W to "Upgrade" Seeds and plants.

So her W gave you Seeds like now. You could place them as a seed or place them on a already planted Seed or plant and that plant would become a Mature Plant.

Mature plants had more HPs and did more damage and had some thing extra

Q Plants had more range and attacks faster and had a bleed. E plants had a lot more HPs and had a bigger melee range AOE that slowed more

Stepping on Mature Seeds would down grade them to normal seeds

Qing or Eing a Mature Seed would spawn the Matured Plant.

Ulted Plants would become Matured plants and Enrage them and Heal them

Numbers would of course be adjusted but a Matured plant would be feared like Heimerdinger Ulted Turret

Yeah I think her new passive should let her shoot a true damage projectile when she dies

I actually really like this idea. Someone posted yesterday they want her old garbage passive back and I would never get behind that. This idea makes sense thematically and with some number adjustments makes sense. It could go with the new Fertilizer passive. Instead of Mature they could be called fertilized plants because her W charges more off of kills. It would add a bit more depth to her RNG passive and some skill expression in zoning people with her plants.

I just miss her old passive. Used to be scary diving her.

really? because it's projectile was so slow and delayed I'd dodge it 99% of the time

I played old Zyra only in ARAM, but even there I only used it pretty much on controlled targets for guaranteed hit and even then it felt like little contribution, lol. But I think it might be just me not really having practice with it.

From what I understand nobody really liked it. Lower ELO Zyras weren't landing it, higher ELO enemies were dodging it. One of the big concerns was that it was a passive that ONLY worked if you died. Which meant that as you got better at Zyra (read: died less), you got less and less use out of your passive. Sion at least is expected to die in a teamfight, having barrelled his way into the enemy backline. His after-death passive allows him to do his primary job a little longer. Zyra, meanwhile, is a squishy Catcher. She's not supposed to be dying as part of her pattern of attack.

Also his passive is just generally less worthless. In order to stop Sion hitting you with his passive generally speaking you need to at least burn a slow on him, which means you're at least sacrificing some resources. Zyra's passive was so slow an clunky that it was unlikely she'd ever actually be able to target it properly if you just moved around a little.

I think there's two halves to this argument, her old passive was complete garbage and there's no question about that, but her new one somehow manages to be bad enough that it actually makes people miss her old passive. I think in a straight 1-1 contest I'd actually take her old passive, because while it was terrible and felt terrible to use at least it didn't promote a degenerate playstyle based in RNG in the way her new passive does.

What is wrong with her current passive that would necessitate such a change.

it's complete RNG

like Illaoi passive bad

sometimes the plants are way too far to be useful. sometimes they are in spots that are super easy for the enemy to defuse. Sometimes they are close enough to be relevant but super hard to contest by the enemy.

It's bullshit to the zyra player since they have no control on having the passive give them optimal seed locations and bullshit to the players fighting against her since sometimes they are in the perfect spot to be triggered and be relevant. Laning against her never feels like "wow she played that well/badly" much rather it feels like "wow she got lucky/unlucky with her free plant placements"

Illaoi passive is completely controllable. It only sends tentacles to the nearest wall far enough away from other tentacles, so standing where you want one to spawn works every time unless it's too close to another one.

Zyra's plants just flop around randomly in every direction in front of her, behind her, under turret, out of lane, wherever the fuck they want.

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Because unlike Illaoi, Zyra has a spell she can use to spawn seeds exactly where she wants them.

SpaghettiVase1 votes

Ummm what is illaoi's R then..?

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Which is a fucking ultimate?

I agree with this in regards to mid lane, but support Zyra legitimately prefers all of these extra plants that you otherwise wouldn't have access to. Also crucial to note that prior to this passive, you didn't have a way of activating any plant Q's at lv1. Your jungler practically gets a godly leash as long as you don't hide in a bush, since it prevents popping the seeds out from your passive.

It is an extremely good passive for the early game on support Zyra, but it's ridiculously inefficient for mid lane Zyra because you simply can't control if they spawn forward. Just that function would already be immensely good of a shift without changing the passive outright.

Tèrminus3 votes

Just make her passive function like Yorick's.

Passive: Cadaverous Bloom

Enemy units that die near Zyra can leave behind Seeds. Champions, large minions, and large monsters always leave Seeds, while small minions or monsters will do so for every X of them that die. Small minions or monsters killed by Zyra expedite this count.

Also pushes her more towards laning since support Zyra would have fewer Seeds to work with, but not completely killing support Zyra since she still has W plus guaranteed seeds from cannon minion waves.

Doesn't look like a passive to me, just an upgrade to her current W. Even though I like her current passive way more than her old one, I don't like the mass before class attitude that was put into recent minionmanzer reworks.

5050BS1 votes

The passive is the Mature Plants. How you get them is with W but the "Power Points" of the champ for the Mature Plants is from the passive.

InTheory1 votes

I understand that, but I meant that this could also be a passive on W instead the whole kit's passive. Like other champions have passives on some of their basic abilities too.

PopcornBunni2 votes

Move her current passive to be a component of W (in addition to active seed growths. As is, her passive itself does, and means, nothing aside from some minor vision granted when seeds sprout. She doesn't need her old cancer passive back, but even something like "hitting an enemy with or growing a plant with abilities restores 1 mana for each target hit" could be enough of an effect to at least justify taking up a character's passive tooltip.

To be fair there are other passives that do actual stonecold nothing mechanically at all - Syndra's is just a feature of her spells themselves, RekSai's is literally just a component of her W, Illaoi's is mechanically akin to Zyra's insofar as her tentacles do nothing, but at the least Illaoi is dependent on her passive to grow them, where Zyra has a dedicated seed grow spell. Yorick is another one who's passive is really just a component of his Q spell.

Even some of the otherwise weakest passives at least do something -- Soraka has a tangible speed boost when her passive takes effect, same with Heimerdinger Fiddlesticks. Hell, Lissandra's "do nothing passive" is at least an actual effect.

Move her current passive to be a component of W (in addition to active seed growths.

I disagree, it should just be scrapped. If you want Zyra to have more plants you can drop the CD of W, although I think the last set of W changes make this a pretty redundant point. The RNG on her passive is massively problematic.

LankPants2 votes

What I've always liked personally is something along the lines of

Zyra's plants and basic attacks apply a stacking debuff to enemy champions and large monsters, when Zyra lands a spell on an enemy she consumes these stacks to deal bonus magic damage and gains a small burst of movement speed based off the stacks consumed

Then you could drop plant bases a touch since they're absurd anyway and make Zyra interact with her plants more rather than just dropping them and forgetting them.

Sukishoo2 votes

Yeah, I think they could have come up with something more interesting for her. Since she can already create seeds with an ability why have it as a passive too? :/

Kaeblen2 votes

The current passive, where she produces seeds naturally, and without effort is roughly 98026345897543678352498% better than her previous passive.

sho ayane1 votes

I think she is fine how she is, she does a lot of damage and you can carry by yourself. I'm not sure what else you want apart from winning without trying.

LankPants3 votes

Winning without trying is dropping two RNG seeds on your enemy then them suddenly having 4 plants AAing them. Zyra already wins without trying because of her RNG passive.

5050BS1 votes

The Idea is that it adds more play to Zyra around her plants and removed RNG from them.

It also addresses the massive issue of her plants dying within 1-2s of getting spawned if they are plants that can attack the enemy. If they are plants that cant or are not attacking the enemy they ignore them or clear them as they focus their normal targets (ether Zyra or the wave)

Fear the Kayn1 votes

Wait what ever happened to the passive where she turned into a sniper rifle for one shot?

gimmieninja1 votes

i play alot of zyra support and her current passive is great (i liked the old one but yeah its was too easy to dodge and you got no use from it when you were having a good game), the only complaint i have at this point with her kit is that her plants will prioritize minions over champions unless you are autoing them.

ive found her to be stronger this season than previous already with the changes to support and mage items and the new runes have set me with a great page that lets me become the ap carry when we have an ad mid ........... or because the opponents ignore my ulted plants in a teamfight.

if riot really wanted to buff her they could have her ult spawn or sprout seeds maybe but really think she should be left alone because if she gets any biffs she will become op then get hit with the nerf hammer over and over and over and over etc adnosium

gimmieninja1 votes

if they really wanted to giver her a boost to her passive maybe somehting like allies near her plants get additional regen or give her autos some type of shred that only applies to her plants

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Yeah her RNG passive is really dumb and boring to play with and against. Zyra honestly has multiple problems atm. Riot just needs to re-evaluate her plants, passive, and W again.
