Tenacity runes

cannot stack with tenacity from items however. could either be only on marks + quints or available on any category (seals,glyphs,quints...), but there would be a cap at 35%. perhaps there could only be scaling tenacity runes no flat. lets say 35% tenacity has a value of 500gold. 9 glyphs scaling could give 35% at level 18. or maybe just 8 glyphs instead. cap still 35%

or have a new form of scaling. at level 1-7 gives 10% tenacity, at level 7-13 = 25%, from level 13 onwards = 35% Though I think this sort of thing would work well with a new/updated rune system. in this instance you'd have to go all in and get 35% tenacity all at once. Would be like a checkbox. then you'd be left with fewer points to distribute into other runes.

I think tenacity runes could be treated differently than other runes since its such a unique stat.

i just find mercs constrict build options too much, yet certain champions can barely function without tenacity. (i don't really like the fact thats its become nearly mandatory to get mercs these days. but that's what its come to now.) I think this could help low mobility champions (particularly melee) deal with this new era of high mobility.

If they put tenacity on runes, it's going to become the ONLY rune build. You want mercs to not be the mandatory build, yet you only suggest a mandatory rune build. There should absolutely never be tenacity runes. Only new and/or reworked items with tenacity will help.

The cap idea is shit. I think tenacity runes would be good but only without a cap. Other sources of tenacity stack multiplicative too. And why marks? Marks are for AD/Offense in general. It doesn't make sence. Glyphs (magic), Seals (defence) and Quints make sence.

Well I figured the reason they didn't allow tenacity to stack with other source of items was for a reason. If tenacity runes stacked with mercs it would likely be broken. Currently only tenacity found on champion kits like garden's W or irelia passive stack. Zephyr/mercs don't so why should runes. It'd be like having CDR from runes allowing you to exceed 40%cdr.

Tenacity from masteries stack with Mercurys too. Tenacity from summoner spell cleanse stack with Mercurys too. Tenacity from champion abilitys stack with Mercurys too. Why would tenacity from runes that stack with Mercurys be broken? You lose AP/AP/MR/Armor/Health/CDR etc. because of that. And they can still be nerfed, if they are too strong.

There is no reason for a cap, it is too complicated, nobody would realize it or understand it, especially Newbies would be trapped.

But lets talk about how strong these runes should be. I would say:

  • Seals: 0.5% tenacity
  • Glyphs: 2% tenacity
  • Quints: 4.5% tenacity

If you use all seals/glyphs/quints for tenacity you would get 36% tenacity. If you combine it with Mercurys you would have 1-((1-0,35)*(1-0,36)) = 58.4% tenacity, but you would lose your other defense stats from runes, especially MR from glyphs, so mages can still do something against it. Making marks/seals too strong would hurt mages too much. But with these runes you could decide, if you want to reduce the CC of mages or the damage of mages.

I disagree I don't think it'll become the only rune build. Certain champs with strong engage disengage like lee sin or irelia with her passive, Olaf's ult. And pretty much any champion currently successful with tabis.

I'd much rather commit over 9 or 8 rune slots worth than commit over an item slot and have to rearrange all the other items. You can play around with the other stats a lot easier on other items, whereas you can't play around with tenacity since it can't be found elsewhere. Plus I'm adding an option, its not like I'm replacing mercs treads, overall its still hugely liberating. Barring having everything totally tweakable... Stats will always come in some chunks/increments. Given what we currently have this only increases flexibility. I think Its already a great start even if mandatory to have them grouped, a bit like quints group 3 or so runes worth, this would group 8.

Ya I agree wouldn't have it only on mark. I did say could be on anything also. Just saying that cuz it seems like every rune category is kind of tied to a category.

The other thing is if you're a tank you will always be getting boots which are not very tanky. That's why its the slot you can best sacrifice for not going tanky with. Getting damage stats on other slots typically means sacrifing more tankyness than you might want. There aren't that many bruiser items imo. To replace serker grieves you would need 25% as ionic spark item that offers enough tank stack to makeup for alternative tank stat items plus mercs. I could get banshees veil + serker + tenacity glyphs. Or get ionic spark, mercs, magic resist glyphs. Ionic spark would have to give like 500 HP 25% as. Right now if I want a bit more as I can't do so, I have to commit to getting 50% as with wits end.

Say I'm Warwick and I want 15 mpen boots. I have to sacrifice tenacity unless I also get zephyr.

Etc.

You don't really lose, you trade ad/mr/ap etc for tenacity. Champion with kits that give tenacity were carefully crafted that way imo. They are often melee/have fewer ways to disengage. If say LeBlanc's were to stack tenacity she would be too elusive as no one could pin her down. Same for say kassadin, ekko etc.

Its also a pretty big trade your making with masteries to get that 10%. same goes with getting a summoner like cleanse (also requires good reflexes) your trading quite a bit and if you don't get much out of it there's a decent cool down awaiting you. Sacrifice element of surprise you'd be getting from flash.

What would be cool is if cleanse gave you say 10% tenacity while on cool down.

if you use all seals/glyphs/quints for tenacity you would get 36% tenacity. At this cost I would rather just go get mercs. Or play irelia or go 9/21 etc You could get 15% attack speed 200 HP and 28 Mr or 15% CDR with all those runes. Tenacity is good but it isn't that good.

I think tenacity is worth around say 500 gold. If you look at scaling MR glyphs they give you 28 MR. That's 500 gold worth. Scaling tenacity would get you 35% with only glyphs.
