Petition #1 to Riot: Please consider the ramifications of the "Runes Reforged" system.
#The Petition
Please take into consideration the full ramifications that removal of the current "base stats" runes will have on certain champions, rune pages, playstyles, builds, etc.
For example,
- Karthus Jungle relies heavily on having 6% spell vamp from runes (plus masteries) to work effectively;
Similarly, multiple playstyles/roles for any one individual champion:
- Splitpush Udyr with 4.5% movespeed;
- "Vampdyr" with 4.5% Lifesteal runes (and masteries);
- "Tankdyr" with full armor/hp/mr rune stats;
- Full Crit Damage runes Jhin or Panth, etc;
All these unique rune page setups and off-meta champion playstyles/builds provide a lot of diversity thanks to the ability to directly modify their base/starting stats incrementally.
Here is my na.op.gg Rune Page List for more examples of what I mean by unique rune page setups and more insight into my own personal playstyles for certain champions.
Now, I do understand (and appreciate) Riot wanting to enable the community with a system that allows more in the way of visible gameplay modifications, but please take into consideration the fundamental nature of base stat adjustment runes, and their place within the early game structure of League games.
##My Suggestion is This:
Keep a subset of "base stat modifier" runes and allow veterans/theorycrafters/off-meta players to maintain some level of mod-ability within the new rune system.
This could come in the form of a group of "minor runes" that simply provide stats such as 6% SpellVamp, 10% AS, Flat/Scaling HP, 4.5% Movespeed, 4.5% Lifesteal, etc.
##Remember, all playstyles matter -- please do not inadvertently limit/erase wildly different or unique rune setups in an (possibly misguided) attempt to provide "more visible gameplay effects/decisions". ##No matter what might be available as alternatives to our original "base stat" runes; less overall runes and rune slots simply means less options and rune page / build diversity for certain champs and players, period.
