Is Malzahar still going to be a tank killer?

With his current null zone, his E, and his Nether Grasp, he has all the tools needed to combat tanks. His synergy with Liandrys also does help. What makes me concerned is his new kit. With his bases and ratios being reduced, and his null zone being essentially moved to his ultimate, I am concerned if Malzahar will no longer be able to deal with tanks as well as currently. To be honest I am concerned about his damage in general being good against everyone, including squishies, but I think that the voildings will compensate for that.

No, they sort of did. I mean, he still seems fun, and it's not that big of a rework, but he won't be anywhere near as effective against tanks as he used to be.

Taking in count he is an inmobile champion with high mana costs, somewhat mediocre range and no utility aside a single target lockdown ult, his damage being extremely high is basically a requirement.

In lane Malzahar is going to be a mixed version of Heimer and Azir. Lanebully that spams voidlings to zone enemy, pushe lane and takes towers and objective control. Easily countered by walking to turret. In teamfights he will do shit if his first voidling gets smited leaving him without any sort of damage. If you want to rek tanks better build Last Wisper or Black Cleaver. I don't see any point in playing him AP anymore. This idiot removed all the damage from his ult to replace it with a nerfed version of his current W. He basically shifted the entire power of his kit to his current passive. Q silence reduced, AP ratio lowered on Q and E, his highest dps spell W removed. If anything, Malz will be played as an AD jungler. I don't see him as a mage any longer. He is now a pokemon master

Hmm, synergy with Liandries means he will still burn tanks just fine, he just won't pop them. Personally I think that is a good thing. I don't like how quickly tanks get shredded in season 6.

Are we both playing the same game?

He'll be a jungler tank killer yeah. Or just a everything that passes near him killer.

They are moving him more so to being a damage over time mage. That is why he is getting the damage reduction in his passive to keep him alive long enough to kill everyone.

He was always a damage over time mage. The only burst on his kit is his Q.

I should have said more so. Corrected, thanks for the reply.

I guess I don't understand the changes to his ult/Null Zone. It now does only % max HP damage, no flat damage. Okay fine, I guess it's intended to be used on tanks or juggernauts because a carry won't care as much about % max HP. But wait, if he's locking down the tank, the carry is just going to shred him during the 2.5 seconds of self-CC. Is Malz's team supposed to focus the tank he's targeting in the hopes of taking it down? In a 1v1, is he going to be able to take down a carry or an enemy laner anymore? His ult no longer has that juicy 250/400/550+130%AP ratio, so you might not even be able to finish them off.

When it was two separate skills it made sense. W was meant to shred tanks as you ulted or your allies CC'ed them. Your ult had a very high base damage which made it easy to melt a carry (sometimes even before the 2.5 second channel ended). You'd throw a W down under the ult because free damage, why not? But the two moves had different purposes.

Against tank: W for damage, R to keep the tank on the damage zone. Against carry: R to lockdown and damage, W for free damage.

seems like he's going to be less about bursting people down with one rotation and keeping up his E for as long as he can and using Voidlings for mixed damage

whether or not it's enough damage remains to be seen, but he feels pretty good right now.

It depends on whether you want to burn your ulti.

If you do, you are pretty good at killing tanks.

If you don't, you are less good at killing tanks, although with how much damage over time you can potentially pull off with Malefic Visions (which now resets when you use your ulti or land your Q) you probably could still do a good amount of damage to tanks.
