only i'm tired of low diversity of supports?

every game is thresh, leona or nautilus as support because the ranged ones got fucking tons of nerfs like Sona and now tank supports are clearly the better option. And most of squish supports if they build tank and dont build ap most of skills becomes unnotivible like sona's Q, passive and W, lulu Q, pix and shield or soraka heals

Dude, there are a lot of viable supports lol. I honestly think it is the most diverse role.

pick Sona , Nami , Soraka , Lulu and go against Leona or Thresh . Best feeling ever, you feel so powerless like Veigar facing Zed Yasuo Talon Pantheon mid

SexyTaylorSwift2 votes

So because a champ is countered by another champ, they aren't viable? You are obviously trolling or have no idea how to play the game. Either way, I'm done with this conversation.

the problem is the intense shutdown that tank supports provide on squishy healers and pokers, yet them themselves do not get anywhere near the severe shutdown potential just for picking that champion into another champion

1 of 2 things needs to happen for supports Squishy supports need to not be completely destroyed by tank supports

or

Tank supports need a much more clearer weakness

How that is going to happen, i have no clue, perhaps a % health based poke support item, perhaps a "fuck your 100 year long cc chain" or "get the fuck off me" item, perhaps squishy supports being brought up in base stat values, perhaps some better earlygame defensive ap items for ap supports

no idea, but this shit needs to end already, tank supports have dominated for over 2 fucking years, it's boring and I hate that my fave role's best picks are dominated by a playstyle i hate

really attractive option for supports specially squishy ones

DomainSpecific1 votes

lol Nami and Lulu are amazing against Leona/Thresh unless you are bad and keep getting hooked.

Sonasaurous1 votes

Sona vs Thresh ? Lol, bring it on. Most of my games are against Thresh, yet I'm still doing pretty well as Sona.

vs Leona ? I don't see her as often, but its just about the same as vs Thresh or Blitzcrank: Dodge engage. Proceed to live to poke another day.

It's honestly mostly a skill match up.

Nameless Voice1 votes

When I play Nami vs Thresh I don't feel powerless at all? I mean, yes, Thresh is annoying, his kit is totally overloaded and I feel I need much more skill to be effective than he does, but it's nowhere near as bad as Veigar vs Zed.

Drackolus4 votes

Uhm yeah, it's just you because that's just not the case yo. I play pretty much every support at least somewhat. Hell, I main Soraka and have no difficulty. And that's not just me: if you look at op.gg, the top supports appear to be Janna, Sona and then Leona. Hell, Janna's reign on the top of the support charts have been largely uninterrupted since season 2.

Your engage and tankiness will wither before my superior poke and strong disengage! Karma

That's some nice engage you got there, shame if you were at half health and stunned all of a sudden... Annie

Nice to see you running away, losing HP and healing me all at once! Have a bird in thanks! Fiddlesticks

Nice CC you got there, shame if it didn't work for some strange reason. Morgana

Basically I am trying to point out that there are some options that can really crap on a tank supports day. As long as you can take control of the lane early by beating their HP into the dirt before they have two (or three, depending) abilities you can shut them down before they have a chance to get going.

3TWarrior1 votes

yep, because blitzcrank doesn't outrange the mages and render them powerless for 2 seconds, enough for the carry to get hyper fed. He can pull a champ from beyond a tower's range and the carry can proceed to nuke.

thresh is picked because he becomes the tankiest support while also having decent damage and a pull initiate

Baron of Bread2 votes

Did you know that all of the champs I mentioned had a way to harass through a minion wave? 2 of them even had a way to make it so the enemy can't use abilities.

Yes, if Blitz grabs you it can be pretty bad. However, you can avoid that grab. It more or less comes down to skill at that point, so with a bit of practice you can learn to deal with him.

3TWarrior1 votes

yet the same goes for blitzcrank knowing how to abuse the lack of minion wave and any time an opponent is out of position. In most matches a blitzcrank and a carry will burst whoever is caught before their carry can even come in range to attack or worse, burst the carry down so they can't farm under turret. Blitz can even grab you from behind your turret while out of range of the turret

kalista and blitzcrank can pretty much instantly kill anything because of kalista's passive and no one can outrun kalista

Baron of Bread1 votes

Yup, as I said it comes down to skill.

3TWarrior1 votes

or the champ composition of the players. who will win. Miss fortune with Soraka support or kalista with bliztcrank support?

lol, oh well

Baron of Bread1 votes

I can see MF-Soraka winning that easily. MF drops a Make It Rain on the Soraka silence zone, the enemy is stuck on it until the root goes off. Then Starcalls and an MF ult clean up house. All without walking out from behind minions.

easier said than done. there is no way mf+soraka win lane/gae against blitz+ kalista, unless blit and kalista are bronze

Baron of Bread1 votes

Even if that's true, and I don't think it is, Blitzcrank is supposed to counter sustain supports. Poke supports like Karma, Fiddlesticks or Annie are supposed to counter Blitz because they can take Blitz or his ADC's health down before Blitz can get a good grab. At that point if Blitz does grab you, you and your ADC can blow up Blitz or his ADC before you die.

3TWarrior1 votes

minion waves don't last forever and most soraka to get in range it allows the opponents to walk out of the effect easily, even while slowed

blitz can even prevent it from happening by using his grab to pull minions and execute them with face of the mountain, both healing his carry and gaining gold he wouldn't have if outranged

don't forget that kalista's W adds a 10% max health damage to attacking the same target, which blitz uses with his knockup because it is an auto attack

Baron of Bread1 votes

If Blitz is using his grab on minions then he will be out of mana very quickly and be a non-issue most of the time. I do remember Kalista's Sentinel passive. Yes, minion waves don't last forever. However, if Blitz gets the wave cleared quickly then he pushes to your turret. When he is pushed to your turret he can't pull you under his turret and he makes himself an easy gank target.

I also had a lot of trouble trying to figure out what your first semi-sentence was, please clarify.

The main problem with support diversity is Thresh : This monster is played in a whopping 40% of Platiunum+ ranked games, which is 15% more then the next champ! Janna and Leona are both sitting at around 20% which is also very high.

On the other hand, the only champs whose primary role is support who are seeing lower than a 4% play rate are Karma (just under at 3.9%), Taric , Zyra, and Zilean . For context, in League over-all, 105 out of 186 champs are played less then 4% of the time. So while a few champs dominate, most supports are viable and see a decent amount of play.

I don't have any problem with tank supports. You poke hard with good positioning and they can't ever touch you short of a gank.

Lucentile2 votes

I've won lane as Sona against Thresh, Leona and Blitz. You just have to mind your positioning and ask your ADC to help keep the bushes warded.

I mean, I play like they're always in the bush, but it sometimes helps to have a friendly reminder. It's not as easy as Zenith Blading in with W on and Q at the ready, but it still is helpful. And Sona's E and W are almost always relevant/helpful, especially if you can power chord W an assassin after they commit so your carry can survive the spike. Of the squishy supports, she's definitely my favorite.

Plus, Silent Night Sona is awesome.

I think there is a very good variety of supports. Some just are better suited for specific comps is all.

as long as i play for fun and enjoyment i think Sona has a place in my life

A lot of Supports aren't good as Bot Support, because they need a certain amount of Gold.

But Solomid or Solotop Supports, oh boy. I have only played 8 times with Soraka top, but I haven't lost a game yet. And only lost lane once.

ZACKandATTACK1 votes

IMO the only supports that are bad atm are Soraka, Taric, and Zilean.

Taric is fucking op. He's just underestimated

Tank supports tend to bully out ranged mages who can't harass them out of lane. It's just how it goes.

3TWarrior1 votes

well, another issue is Face of the Mountain. It allows the support to share gold with the carry and if they are melee range (such as blitz, leona, nautilus), they can execute creeps much faster early game

riot does need to take a long look at supports, but I think they should also devote more resources to their balance team than to their champ creation team. A new champ every 2 months means little if they can outlane most opponents made previously. Ashe, for instance, is in a good place now because she's not OP at range, her stun is long enough for her to make a combo but not op and she is more unique than she used to be

Tanky supports aren't actually tanky until they start building tank. Especially Thresh. If you bully him early game, he's going to fall behind and have a hard time getting back into game. As someone who plays a lot of support I'll say this, lower levels, support is played to give ADC's sustain (Sona, Soraka, etc.) but the at higher levels, it become more of lane pressure and utility. That's why Annie support is strong - she has amazingly reliable AoE engage (not much of a nuke because Annie support shouldn't have all that much AP). Janna has and will always be the queen of supports unless riot nerfs her into oblivion because of her amazing peel.

Most supports don't build noticeable amounts of AP in the first place. Tankraka just doesn't work. Sona's base health is so low, I'm not sure you can completely pull off building tank anyway. And Lulu is played for the utility as well, not inparticularly for the damage that she can deal.

I think there's quite a wide variety of supports out there. It is true that most of them don't see a lot of gameplay (I've played with/against maybe 2 alistars out of the last 150 games I've played). But I'll be honest, I personally play what's best for my team, and who I'm most comfortable with. Nami is a support that gets so overlooked sometimes.

And never forget the moustache. Braum

I love to play xerath supp... I like ahri supp... I like brand supp... I like syndra supp... I like orianna isupp... liss supp...

Of course sona doesn't do well against tank supports... she has to get in aa range to release her full combo. Once she gets close enough the tank will curb stomp that little mage minion we call sona.

Oh forgot soraka and Nami (imo better versions of sona)

I'll be a happy man when Rito nerfs Threst. I am so tired of seeing that champion in my lane. Blitz was OP because 1 grab = instant death, but Thresh is just as bad and his lantern is one of the most OP abilities in the game. Suddenly no mobility champs become extremely mobile, good for both defense and offense. Thresh is the support I take the most issue with. Nerf him first, then we'll talk about the rest.

Nameless Voice1 votes

The problem with Thresh is that no amount of straight nerfs would actually make him bad. He does a bit of everything, and as long as he continues to do a bit of everything - no matter how badly - he will continue to be a top pick.

MLDzXnRRR1 votes

I see often Thresh, Leona, Blitz, Janna and Annie .

stealthfox941 votes

Bot lane support is usually, one side Thresh , the other side, a mixture of Morgana Leona Nautilus Braum Nami Janna So there is some diversity.
