Malphite is my second most played champ and I have to say that I hate the new changes. I feel like riot is pushing him towards ap instead of tank which I hate. Full armor malphite was my favorite thing to do and with the w passive being changed it harder to do that. Also we don’t even get a mana cost reduction on q, wtf riot.

Doesn't mean theyre iceboxing them.
That said they DID decide to keep the triple armor passive on W with the other changes. but I still don't understand why OP thinks theyre trying to make Malphite build AP when theyre giving his autos bonus armor scaling more than anything else.

It because the way the reworked his w makes it synergize with lich bane very well. That makes ap malphite much better.

It's because the idea of stacking one defense type to counter a team is long since outdated. With the sheer amount of true damage, penetration, and %HP damage on top of the nerf to important armor items a little over a year ago, it's a dead theme. Not to mention the fact people are privy to the importance of damage composition when fighting tanks, now.
And the only real alternative to buffing tanks' damage is buffing their overall defense. But since 7.9 they've been making sure not to do that.
