Negative side of the new champion select
I have been thinking about the low quality of the recent matches. Lots of people complain about it and I also experience it. I think there is a high chance that this is connected to the new champion select.
But lets start discussing the past first. In the original champion select everybody had to declare their role, and 2-3 player usually got their primary role and 2-3 did not. Since this happened for both teams it provided some kind of balance.
The new champion select offered players the opportunity to get their primary role more often. Hence they become better at their primary role and worse in other roles. The problem is the matchmaking is not prepared for this and may match a primary adc with an auto-filled adc. Due to the reasons before the primary adc likely perform much better than the average adcs in the past and the auto filled adc performs much worse. The result is strong feeding and low-quality games.
Many people think they are not that bad in their secondary roles but against a player who plays that role 90% of the time the difference is enough to loose the lane and become useless in late game. Even though if their MMR is the same.
Just think about it: what would happen if roles would be randomly assigned before an LCS match? Getting or don't getting a primary role has too much impact on the player's performance.
There are ways to fix this but riot currently does not admit that something is wrong with the matchmaking. Or perhaps they know just have no idea what cause the problem. This text might help them.
