A Noobs Guide to support!! Yay!

Alright so first off doesnt matter who you are. Get a mother freakingitem 2049 sightstone as your first back. (second back later get boots and health, resistance and /or mana, typically boots so you can run and ward aggressively) 800 gold for sight stone remember it and swap item 3361 to item 3341 unless you expect a sustain lane where you will need the extra trinket wards i do this often because more wards the better. Next if you do something or your ADC does something dumb and you die early without 800 gold so lets say 500 gold. If you are a mana hungry champ like Soraka Alistar Janna and need mana by all means get mana regen... not flat mana regen(flat is fine in certain cases) think long term not short sighted so get item 3098 item 1004 item 3114 and/or some item 2003 pots and for the love of all things get a item 2043 and place it somewhere. for example... tribush, any bush, river bush, drag/baron pit, blue buff bush or anywhere you dont have vision. Each player gets one pink, and most of the time they dont buy one so take up slack and buy two but only one can be placed, so if it is an aggressive ward get 2 later in the game. Next step learn items, auras, passives and actives. Get item 3222 for removing stuns, item 3504 for shield or healing sups. item 3401 for tanky sups first item, item 3092 for spooky ghosts, item 3069 for engage, item 3190 or item 3060 (you should get one almost every game) depending on champ asap for second or third item if there is a viable AP threat on other team as this helps everyone on your team. When behind build tanky, ahead build damage, but most of all build to cover teams weaknesses. If you are support Ziggs by chance(do not do) and need a way to slow enemy buy a Ryali's not for you but for the team.

Now as a support you have two main jobs. Ward and peel. Ward- every place that is choke point, has traffic, or ppl might be. Ward well, ward often ward, ward and ward. Peel- set up kills with CC, or disengage to let your ADC kite with your CC or better yet to save your scrub ADC from positioning errors.

secondary jobs freeze lane- if ADC is near and is running back. Tank minion aggro until they come so it saves exp and gold for your mate. Push lane- if the other laners are gone, push with your ADC.. not take his CS, to the enemy tower and help take out tower eventually Heal- if you are certain champs heal the ADC when low or just for fun Ping Map- let team know about sums that are down, where enemy jungler is, what objective the other team is trying to do etc. Poke- if you are ranged support poke the shit out of noobs, if you have advantage block off all their CS to deny exp gank- roam mid if your ADC pushed out lane and backed but you see an opportunity mid Foster friendship- help other people not rage. this helps everybody and helps you win a bit more

Have fun and together we can stop scrubbing the easiest role. If you do not get a item 2049 you are not supporting so dont be that guy. nor should you buy it then not use it. also buy item 3190 or item 3060 unless your jungle or top somehow begs you not to buy it. Why? Because it lets your team survive AOE mages that would have been able to delete the team otherwise. Its not much but i assure you it helps.

Feel free to add and please share :)

how to support in reality: grow a thick skin, turn off chat, and try to keep your ADC alive as much as you can! The first 10 minutes is where you're most needed, either poke the enemy away from your ADC and endlessly heal. Don't go for kills, don't go for farm just sit on your ADCs ass and keep them alive. Warding helps, sure, but NEVER FORGET - - YOU ARE THERE TO KEEP YOUR TEAMMATE ALIVE.

you are just repeating my steps in a harsh tone...?

as a support main, and I will just say based on my rank not very good, wards are worth life itself. You will most likely in low elos be expected to be the only ward, so just ward whenever you can.

If buying multiple sightstones increased your ward cap, then support in low Elo wouldn't be as bad.

Goddammit, you should've touched up with some decent formatting at least. But anyways, things to add...

  • If you don't know whether if it's a good time to roam or not, starter advice: don't roam. Unless your teammate is running near botlane begging for help because he is getting invaded/almost dying/just needs someone's help, then go help that guy. Plus you will be much less likely to be behind in levels.
  • If you are a backliner, stay in the backlines unless you know for sure someone is going to die.
  • If you are a frontliner, stay in the frontlines unless you are going to die.
  • In lane, if you can't see your ADC, don't do anything that requires him to follow up/back you up. Chances are, he will not be able to do what you want him to do.

Get a mother freaking sightstone as your first back.

I was gonna say "it depends", but then I read your title again. Good enough advice for dummies.

If you are a mana hungry champ like Janna Alistar Soraka and need mana by all means get mana regen...

Getting mana regen is a little bit impractical, but otherwise yes.

freeze lane- if ADC is near and is running back. Tank minion aggro until they come so it saves exp and gold for your mate.

Though do that only when minions are getting towers, try not to take unnecessary damage. Try not to take any farm unless you know for sure your lane partner can't (as in he is still in base by the time the minions are almost dead).

also buy item 3190 or item 3060 unless your jungle or top somehow begs you not to buy it.

Or when someone else on your team already has built one, and that you don't need MR. Though as the advice for dummies, this is fine.

All added for clarification.
