My suggestion is to not go too deep chasing her. She thrives in a 1v1 situation against tanks. If you chase her to a point where your team can't follow and it's just you vs. her tumbling around, you're likely to lose.

Stay closer to your carries and make her come to you. Her range is almost certainly going to be shorter than one of your carries.

But her AA range is 550, which is about average if not better than a number of carries. People tend to forget she really isn't short ranged at all :/

He said carrIES, not necessarily just your ad carry. Even short range for a mage will easily be able to nuke Vayne from safety.

But even talking about adcs, let's actually look at the marksmen in the game with 550 or less range.

Corki: His ult and phorphorous bomb makes his actual range of threat MUCH longer than 550 plus he has significant burst that will spike down a vayne before she can get her momentum going Draven: Will deal more damage in a shorter amount of time than Vayne unless he has fallen far behind Ezreal: Like Corki, he focuses more on ability usage which is longer range than Vayne's Twitch: Ulti. Kalista: This is actually probably a pretty bad matchup in the late game for Kalista, although her Q is still longer range than Vayne. Jinx: Rockets, Tazer Kindred: out-bursts Kog'maw: W Sivir: Q for poke, and if Vayne is standing near minions she'll eat ricochets, although this is probably another good matchup for Vayne. Lucian: His ability rotation will beat Vayne in damage. Graves: Tanky and bursty enough that he should beat Vayne. Plus a smokescreen can cut off her autos completely. Quinn: burst plus blinding assault has longer range and neutralizes Vayne temporarily

There are very few mid-low auto range adcs where their actual range of threat is only 550 or less while Vayne literally cannot do anything to champions outside of 550 range. I think only 2 or maybe 3 of these champions out of all the pool of marksmen in the game simultaneously can't threaten Vayne from outside of her range and aren't expected to beat Vayne when they get within the same range she needs to be threatening.

I was simply commenting on the fact that Vayne isn't a short-ranged ADC as most people think she is. Her AA range puts her to be as safe as most other ADC's, except she gets invisibility and tumble, knockback/stun CC as well haha

Not having abilities that extend outside of her auto range DOES mean she is a short-ranged adc. The max range of your abilities is more important than your auto range in determining your actual range of threat.

The problem is that her effective range is greater than 550 thanks to tumble, her passive, and her ult. Even if you can hit her first she closes the gap extremely fast, sticks on top of you, and often dodges your longer ranged attack with tumble anyways completely negating your range advantage.

Against non adcs in particular her usual items tend to mean she's much faster than everyone else in the late game, furthering the problem. Though this is a problem typical of most adcs it's more important as a tank vs Vayne due to her W making her a bigger threat to tanks than most adcs are.

I'm not saying there are 0 times where her strict 550 range is a weakness, but I am saying it's a weakness far less often than just looking at range numbers makes it look.

Vayne has "short range" because she has no abilities which allow her to affect enemies outside of her autoattack range.

Ashe WR Corki QR Caitlyn QR Draven ER Ezreal QWR Graves QR Jinx WR Kalista Q KogMaw QER Lucian QWR (Targeting a minion) MissFortune QR (Bounce Q off a minion) Quinn Q Sivir QW Urgot QE Varus QER

Tristana and Twitch are the only other ADCs who can't affect enemies outside of their autoattack range and both have abilities which can extend their autoattack range significantly.

Vayne actually is short-ranged, in that if a poke battle were to ensue there is nothing Vayne can contribute because of her lack of ranged abilities. She can only affect targets within 550 units of her, so Vayne might as well not be on the team if you're just trading poke, for example.

The usual suggestion is to wear Vayne's team and Vayne herself down with poke until they're low enough that you can crush them.

Still also forgot to mention that she is a late game carry and killing a tank is her job. Lat game hyper carry + late game + killing people she was designed to kill = working as intended.

I'd probably add that playing around brushes and positioning to force her to change targets and lose her Silver Bolts procs does wonders.

Same way you deal with ADC's in general.

Engage, serve as the focus for her, and let someone else destroy her. Remember, unlike other ADC she has no way to extend her zone of control (her E has slightly more range, and dat one marksman item but only works for one autoattack), so if Vayne is capable of autoattacking you, the frontline, during a teamfight then that means one of your assassin or mages should have the range and means to all-in her.

Not many people can fight a fed vayne who's reached her lategame. If you're lategame as well... CC and and blow her up. It takes a team to stomp a vayne. Your best bet is to go in on her hard with a tank like Malphite or Amumu and lock her down. If your own carries and damage aren't up to taking her down while she's stunned... you're gonna have a bad time.

Problem is she can dodge, juke, kite and out damage a LOT of people. Maybe endgame Nasus can kill her in one Q IF he can get to her. Most tanks can't touch her. She'll condemn you away and tumble around in stealth until you're dead. You need two people to kill vayne. One to lock her down... one to burst her.

Hard engage her or flank. A lot of vaynes go super rambo into you and leave them self vulnerable to cc

This depends. First, what is your tank? Malphite Should R in, aoe attackspeed slow, pop that W and start going after someone, prob that vayne. However, if your tank is like......... Rammus I'd say try to peel for your own carry. Unless your carry is like 3 items behind or doing horrible then yea go for the gold.

If she's attacking you, she isn't attacking your carries, which means that even if you die, your team should have been able to take out the opposing carries.

every tank in this game can beat a vayne 1v1, both being full build

however. its not a 1v1. vayne can kite you back long enough for her team to come help

so its really a 5v5. as such. heres my advice

in a 5v5, against vayne. assuming teams are even in gold. then engage their tanks and pull back. do not try to chase the vayne. she peels too well. just fight frontline vs frontline. and vaynes damage on even gold really isnt that much higher than your adc who has just as much gold. assuming your adc got penetration item. vaynes power is mostly from the self peel / kiting she has

You scare her off, and let her shoot you and nobody else.

You're a tank, you can soak it. Your job isn't to kill her. Your job is to keep her from killing your team. If you go forward, and she tumbles back, she's now farther from your team, go back and deal with someone in range, then yell BOO at her when she tries to come back.

If she stays near you to fight, you can try and bash on her, or you can just generally keep her busy. Since she's likely to be a higher damage threat than at least one of your carries, keeping her busy is enough. Remember, you asked about being a tank, not about being a bruiser.

Depends on which tank. I ban her alot, since I'm a Sion main. With Sion vayne has to be really bad, or her team has to be really bad for me to ever cc her. Ive had at least one game I can remember her whole team parting like the red sea when I ulted, and I smacked straight into her with my ult, but that's pretty rare. So anyway I think shes alot easier to kill if you have a tank with some reliable hard cc she cant just interrupt or dodge around. Like amumu stun for example.

Never go solo, always stick with your ADC. when in range try to lock her down (as a Leona main it's easy ((E+Q/possible R if needed)), not sure about other supps) hit her with exhaust so her stats/abilities go down. less dmg to you/adc & more dmg to vayne.
