Any Tips + Tricks?

Imagine yourself as an immobile mage (Xerath Syndra Viktor Karthus) of some kind. You get put into a generally unfavorable matchup against an assassin (Zed Fizz) etc. The enemy jungler is one of those "im gonna fuck you up with ganks fam" guys like Vi or JarvanIV. These guys usually have the trifecta of damage, gap closer, and cc during the early levels (1-6).

It's during these specific situations that I often struggle as an immobile mage player (Xerath and Syndra specifically) and I find myself either getting lucky or getting stomped. I want to bully the assassin, zone them from xp, and stop them from roaming. I want to stay safe, stay away from possible engages, and farm when I can to stay away from their jungle. Its the conflicting playstyles that I have trouble balancing

You could consider investing in a protobelt, but the best thing you can do is go off your ward placement. Place a ward on right bush side for example, play around it. Rely on pinks. I'm a Brand main so I get your frustration.

The most important tip I think that I've seen from top players is that if you don't know where the jungler from the enemy team is just assume that they are in the side bush of your lane. And if you see the jungler on another part of the map start depending on where they are a timer in your head that says, "Ok I can poke and push this assassin out of lane right now I can go in for poke for 20 seconds". Beyond that go back to the assumption that the jungler is in your lane. Also, in the early game try to roam invade with your team into either buff and get a ward on it. This will tell you where the jungler is going to start and you can make reasonable assumptions as to the other junglers pathing. Let's say you're on blue side and you know the enemy jungle starts on blue buff on their side (blue is more common on red side and red is more common on blue due to the bot lanes leash being better). Because you know he will start blue you know that if he were to level 2 gank u for example he is most likely going to be on your right side. If he wants to level 3 you he is going to have to go to the other side of the jungle and most likely grab red buff then you know you are more likely to need vision on your left side. The tip the guy above me suggested plays into this knowledge more where if you ward a side play closer to that side because if he comes from your unwarded side you will have more than enough time to run away or he will be forced to flash to reach you, if he comes from your warded side you have essentially the same amount of time due your ward giving you earlier notice to his arrival. If you have no wards, and you have no vision of the enemy jungler, and youre not sure where he started or where he currently is in his route, keep in mind that dying is by far the worst thing you can do in league, if you get behind in farm because you know you're getting camped, that might suck but pushing up to farm and dying to a gank is far worse. A lot of players think, "I'm losing farm, I'm losing my lane, I'm going to lose because of this" and this thought causes a lot of people to die when they don't need to. Just play back, play patient, ask your jungler to stay by your lane so he can counter gank, trust me junglers love double kills and a refresh on their buffs from the enemy jungler they won't mind. Of course don't be a dick and don't flame your jungle for not ganking you. All this does is fragment your team and cause you to likely die more often due to a lack of jungler support from your team. I hope this is helpful to you, if you have questions feel free to add my league name and shoot me a message about this so I know who you are. Have a good one fellow summoner!

This was extremely helpful, thank you so much! I've got to start getting in the habit of checking the minimap/having an awareness of other areas on the map. I've been able to climb through plat with a general 1v1 mindset, "worry about me and only me" but now that there are situations where I can't get away with that lazy style I should probably stay more aware. I appreciate it dude
