Why are adc's rushing Hurricane?

General Esdeath ··6 votes·4,341 views

I don't get it. Decided to try playing adc myself and I still don't get why. Just stomped on my other account (also gold V) (TheSodomizer if you want to check) by rushing damage. Why do people rush attack speed? Most adc's already have an attack speed buff. Ashe Draven Jinx KogMaw Tristana and I guess Lucian and Ezreal if you could their passives, Ezreal's is easy enough to stack.

Runaan's is first completed item, but you should ideally build a BF sword first.

Cait has no attack speed steroid, Draven does not build Runaan's, Kog rushes wit's end, and Lucian and Ez don't build Runaan's.

But isn't Runnans built on kog anyways?

item 3124 item 3085 item 3006 item 3091 item 3153 (Situational item here)

Zane Zephyr1 votes

Yes, but wits end is cheap and it melts people early on because they dont have too much MR

Iageri1 votes

MMmmmmmmm - nods -

I know the most OP build for tristana is.. item 3031 item 3085 item 3006 item 3072 item 3094 (Situational Item)

But sometimes I just wonder... I try a ton of other things... but they lack luster damage..

One thing I do know is that ALL of her abilities scale/deal off Magic Damage.

I too have wondered about a Wits end.. but... yea..

Everything I try is lack luster damage in comparison to her more meta build..

Yeah, but the OP was asking why ADCs rush runaan's.

Sure, he builds it, but he rushes Wit's End for big boy W damages.

Ruin Lance3 votes

a lot of low elo players don't understand the value of having AD vs having attack speed. your attack speed means nothing if you have no damage for the attacks to deal. but yeah, it's pretty much just because of people's lack of understanding the game

Sightless664 votes

That's not the answer. It has become a major build in high level play over the last 6 months, to the point where diamond and masters players are doing this in the large majority of their games.

The reason is primarily due to hurricane giving majorly increased pushing power, which fits with the ADC goal of farming and pushing instead of fighting. You get a BF sword so that you're not too far behind on AD, and then you pick the item that will best help you accomplish your goal. If you're ahead, you may still finish an IE first, but that's the exception rather than the go-to option nowadays.

Ruin Lance1 votes

i hope you realize i'm talking about hurricane rush with no AD. BF sword into a full hurricane is fine, hurricane rush with no AD is not.

Sightless661 votes

If people are rushing hurricane naked, then yes, you are absolutely correct. I'm not sure that's what OP was referring to, but if so, your response was appropriate.

C men Demon1 votes

Hey look at that, you showed a game in which someone rushed runaan's, and lost. Seems to be a reoccuring theme with the runaan's rush. Sure people are building it, but the success rate has not been very high.

Sightless661 votes

No, that really doesn't seem to be a theme. It wasn't 2 months ago, and it isn't now.

I personally love it on Ashe because it applies her small slow to the targets hit by the bolts as well. It helps with kiting, and lets me keep a littleee extra distance between me and everyone trying to smash my face in.

But you don't do damage then.

But you don't do damage then.

It'll depend on the game though. I almost always have my BF sword first, sometimes the pickaxe as well. I just opt to get a hurricane instead of spending 1425 gold for an extra 5 AD and 20% crit chance.

General Esdeath 1 votes

I see people rush it over BF and I have no clue why. None of them answer when I ask.

Oh, then I haven't a clue. I just do it for my own reasons, but a hurricane before even a BF sword is a little.. odd.

Personally I blame LCS. Sneaky telling kids to rush hurricane and smoke.

There are meta sheep, and then there are bad meta sheep. Those people probably have no idea what they are doing.

You really want the Extra AD from a BF sword, for last hitting. Some might throw on the pick ax as well. However, you stop at the AD components and go for your first major AS item, that being Hurricane. The main reason for this is that your still in the laning phase, and Crit really doesn't help you when sieging towers.

You see, they dont know why they do it either. They saw "da proz do eet" and now they do it too, cause they will get yelled at if they dont. The opinions of others will crush their nonexistent soul, so they have to do as the other sheep do for fear of being devoured.

Meep Man1 votes

The critical strike chance it provides is 35%, which is good enough for a character like Ashe that you run more for the kiting potential and ultimate than just pure ROFL stomp damage that someone like Vayne, Draven, or Kog'Maw provide.

30%.

I TYPICALLY TRY TO GET item 1038 item 3086 ON MY 1SY BACK ON ADCS THAT ARE CRIT BASED

It's because it stacks really well with IE.

General Esdeath 2 votes

But to get it before ANY damage?

Squidward Dab1 votes

If you see anyone rush hurricane before getting a BF sword or a pick axe then they clearly don't play ADC and you have to correct them on their mistake

Zane Zephyr1 votes

In the case of Ashe and Cait, it's because it helps them with their on-hit/stacking passives. Runaan's spreads ashe's focus and it helps cait stack her passive in 3 hits if you get both bolt procs off.

But I only get it after I get my BF sword, I never rush it first item.

Runaan's extra shots do not add stacks of focus for Ashe. But applying the slow to multiple targets is enough for me, so I do the same build with Ashe I do with Cait.

Caitlyn

Zane Zephyr2 votes

Never said it did. It applies the actual focus shots to the other targets.

Lucian's passive doesn't work with Hurricane anymore, but yeah I get what you're saying. With Ashe I kinda get why cuz of her q, but attack speed doesn't mean much if you don't have the damage behind it.

Seenan1 votes

Always get at least a BFS before you even think of getting/finishing hurricane, or else you'll just be weak as hell with bolts that tickle Sona...

For someone like Cait, it procs her passive incredibly faster if the bolts hit things (in a bush, it might be one shot, one passive, one shot, one passive). For the rest, I'm sure everyone but Ashe and Jinx rush other things instead.

  1. easy waveclear -> more cs, more mappressure
  2. fervor->up to three item 1038 for just 1point spent make as waay too strong waay to early
  3. also has crit ontop of the AoE so it scales well throughout and offers enough power for midgame teamfights with just a little help of RNgesus

If you complete your zeal item before you have a BF sword you're trolling.

If you finish your IE/ER before you have your recurve bow/zeal or zerkers you're trolling.

These stats multiply on each other and make each other better. You get the most dps bouncing between each direction. By building only one stat you're choosing the power of addition over multiplication.

If I'm crushing champions I'll focus towards the AD side first though. If I'm just farming/pushing probably the attack speed side. But to not have both is bad.

NGNL Asian1 votes

Hyper carries or waveclear mainly. I loved this on ashe(I'm silver), gotten a penta with the right positioning. And with jinx, the triple rockets can be cancer af.

WhiperSnapers1 votes

It has a lot to do with how much weight "On Hit Effects" have at the moment, whether its for lifestealing from more sources or just simply abussing certain champion abilities.

Champions that prioritize item 3085 : Ashe&KogMaw's machine gun like attackspeed combined with item 3072 makes a self-shielding glass canon in teamfights while stacking fervor of battle for max DPS Caitlyn's passive "headshot" charges faster, boosting her damage output KalistaVarus &Twitch's passive stacking is much more impactfull if they can get stacks on more than one person Twitch&Teemo can poison multiple people Jinx&Tristana's bomb passives can do AoE x3

.

There are three possible reasons as to why one of these champions would not prioritize the item:

  1. Spell casters like Urgot , Corki , and to an extent, Jhin & MissFortune dont benefit from on hit effects since the majority of their damage is from long range poke. Ezreal is an exception... he benefits from on hit effects, but only because of his spells which runaan's hurricane doesnt duplicate.
  2. Others champions have unique auto-attack spells/abilities that the item simply doesn't synergize with because of how unbalanced the champion would become. Draven would get 3 spinning axes with every auto-attack which would eliminate the counterplay in his kit. Sivir's ricochet would go from 3 auto-attacks that bounce to 9. Lucian's E would be reset almost instantly giving him infinite kite. A single Graves crit would consist of 30 bullets! Azir... I dont even know how to explain how busted this guy would be
  3. Some champion kits just dont work with the item which makes other items more effeceint. Gnar would only use it 50% of the time Vayne's short range and kit allow her to thrive in 1v1 fights, runaan's hurricane would put her uncomfortablly close to up to 3 enemies. Quinn valor only targets one enemy so there are better items for her to buy instead
Squidward Dab2 votes

Vaybe's silver bolts are purposely designed so it can't be procced by hurricane don't forget

WhiperSnapers1 votes

thank you, I thought that it had something to do with that, but since i dont play vayne I wasn't 100% certain, which is why i didnt include it

Squidward Dab2 votes

If they let on hits like vayne's silver bolts and miss fortune's love taps proc three times at once they would be borderline op

Requiemsfire1 votes

Ashe also applies her passive which deals damage to slowed enemies using crit as a damage multiplier. :D

And Sivir will only apply runaan's to a single target making it totally ineffective for Ricochet. If it did apply to 9 different blades it would cause a total team wipe off their front line by Sivir alone.

It wouldn't give Draven an an extra axe. The axe on-attack not on-hit.

Lucian's auto attacks on their own are crap anyways so building for on hit effects is kinda pointless.

Well Tristana's bombs aren't really affected by runaan's at all other than being primed by the bolts.

WhiperSnapers1 votes

Thank you for adding the ashe passive, I had forgotten about that. I realise that Draven, Lucian, and Sivir cant apply runaan's, they were just examples of what you would see if they "were" able to use it. As for Tristana, I meant more specifically the passive that her bomb has: "killing a unit, even one without the bomb, does a small amount of AoE damage" which makes her wave clear much faster because of the possibility of activating it up to 3 times

Critmaster Garen1 votes

hitting multiple largets stacks fervor faster if im not mistaken. plus, fervor applies to the bolts aswell, dealing large amounts of damage

Ashe slows multiple targets hit by the bolts. she also fires the bolts 2 times with an empowered q.

Jinx fires 3 rockets and aoe crits people with it

Caitlyn apparantly the headshots trigger hurricane bolts aswell, allowing her to hit anyone at long distance next to the enemy tank whos trying to clear the traps.

Draven my guess is, the spinning axes damage applies to the hurricane bolts, which is a lot

KogMaw is an on-hit carry with long range. no surprise here.

Twitch same as kog. mostly attack speed/on hit focused builds.

Kalista spears apply to multiple people.

Rins Thigh Socks1 votes

It's rushed on specific champions (Cait, Ashe, and Jinx) because it synergizes with something they happen to do.

Jinx gets her AoE AoE crits plus her passive, Ashe slows like 8 different people once she presses Q, and Cait gets passive crits much more quickly.

Of course this is after buying a BF or Caulfield's.

Moriss1 votes

More auto's will equal more damage. It's much more sustained and reliable damage then rushing an infinity edge. Crit chance move speed and aoe damage that applies on hit effect bolts is just extremely useful and has the highest damage output of any atk speed items atm in most cases.

Spoofghoul1 votes

Fervor of battle 8-112 on hit

Runaans gives 15 on hit

You can already get 20% damage increase from masteries

and the item gives 30% crits or roughly 30% dps increase on basic attacks

All you really need at that point is a chunk of ad, a bf sword will do, and your dealing tons of damage

Lady Hammerlock1 votes

You get BF sword into hurricane, generally you don't buy hurricane on all ADC's,only on ADC's that have good synergy

Sivir :not the best on her,but if you do get it,it amps your wave clear and already strong multiunit damage

Ashe :applying your passive to three people enough said

Caitlyn :faster passive stacking

KogMaw :You'd never rush hurricane, but anyways,Hurricane synergizes incredibly well with him because he builds primarily on hit,and since hurricane applies on hit,you get the point

Twitch :This gives Twitch wave clear which he generally lacks and you either go item 3085 > ghost blade or the other way around, this just makes him deal an insane amount of already absurd AOE damage from his ult

CerealBoxOfDoom1 votes

hurricane technically allows you to pass the AS cap against multiple targets.

Mirkhail1 votes

Most adc who rush item 3085 usually get a item 1038 first. They get item 3085 for 2 reason, wave clear and synergy with the champion. Caitlyn stack her passive and let her headshot enemy more frequently. Ashe aoe slow and aoe q damage, help kiting Jinx aoe crits, stack her q passive and a lot of aoe damage Kalista aoe spear and item 3153 Kindred Aoe on hit passive KogMaw build mostly on hit and have on hit on his w, item 3085 apply on-hit on every bolt Twitch Aoe poision and more aoe on his ult. Tristana aoe explosion and waveclear

Some adc don't build it for different reason

Corki already build triforce, essence reaver and infinity edge, also not particular synergy Ezreal spam q, auto attack mostly for sheen Graves He prefer phantom dancer Jhin his 4 bonus damage is don't applied and he prefer item 3094 Lucian i think he prefer phatom dancer and his passive don't work with item 3085 MissFortune she already have enough aoe damge with her ult, also her base auto without the passive do little damage and she would have problem resetting the passive with the aoe effect Quinn she is mostly single target Sivir She already have enough waveclear and aoe with her w, she prefer phaton dancer for kiting and damage reduction Varus i don't know why, probably don't work with his blight passive Vayne item 3085 don't apply her w on other target Draven item 3085 don't apply his q bonus damage.

Because Fervor of Battle is OP and Hurricane is the best way to abuse Fervor

I thought it was kind of obvious

Kaioko1 votes

I can only speak for the ADC I actually play with are Jinx, Cait, Sivir and Ashe but on 3 out of those 4 getting a B.F. sword followed by completing hurricane before finishing IE makes the most sense. You get the damage and hurricane scales well with all of them. On Ashe you end up applying a lot of slows, on JInx your waveclear and damage skyrockets because the AOE of the rockets also apply on the bolts and on cait you get a headshot every 2 attacks because each attack charges up your passive 3 times as fast.

Thunderspam1 votes

I personally take the Runaans first on Jinx and Ashe when I use them because of the easier farm and clear potential that they get more farm = more gold Just a personal preference and I do agree that you should take like a BF Sword(aka the Best Friend Sword) first for the damage in lane but I get runaans then usually Black cleaver and then go from there
