Large Rod Item Concept

With DFG going to be removed from the game, which I agree with by the way, there could be a replacement Large Rod item in its place. Throw out your own ideas here and we can discuss them.

Staff of the Magus: Recipe: Needlessly Large Rod (1600g) + Haunting Guise (1485g) + 515g = 3600g

Statistics: +120 Ability Power +200 Health +UNIQUE Passive: +20 Magic Penetration +UNIQUE Passive: Spells that deal magic damage deals an additional 10(+5 per champion level) [100@level 18] magic damage (one-third of the effect for damage-over-time and damage-per-second spells).

First, having a giant AP item that ALSO gives magic penetration makes it a must buy; we don't need people taking this, sorcerer's, and void staff and absolutely murdering everything.

Second, giving every mage or assassin at LEAST an extra 400 damage for a combo is way too strong; especially when you consider champs like Zyra who can keep her plants attacking someone for an extra 100 damage per hit, or Katarina spamming QW and resetting even easier. This makes assassins even more overbearing (gives them huge AP, but also more penetration, but also even more burst), and would be a must buy on every AP (why buy liandry's when you can get even more AP and penetration AND an extra 100 damage per spell!)

No, not every mage would buy the item - it is 100 extra magic damage at level 18, 33 damage for DoT and DpS spells- remember Deathcap gives 30% AP, deathcap is going to be giving more than 100 damage as long as the item gives over 200AP (total, which isn't hard to obtain)

but leaving comments that sounds whiny and screaming OP before thinking rationally is annoying and irritating to people

this item does not outshine deathcap, but it is meant to be an equal for options and customizations, i increased the gold cost however to have it harder to obtain

(These AP numbers assume your item is not calculated in the AP, so with rabadons 200 would be 416, with this item 200 would be 320)

Assuming a 3.0 AP ratio and 200 base AP (level 11), Rabadon's gives 1248 total damage. This item would give 960 + 260 + 20 magic penetration (and 200 hp...), for a base of 1220 and the 20 magic penetration.

So this item would outperform Rabadon's if the 20 magic penetration added 29 damage.

Assuming 3.0 ratio, base 500 AP (level 18), Rabadon's gives 2418 damage. This item would give 1860 + 400 + 20 magic penetration, for a base of 2260 + 20 magic pen.

So this would outperform if the 20 magic penetration added 158 damage.

So no, this item completely outshines deathcap early game, and the magic penetration makes it continue to outshine lategame (Squishies have a base 30 magic resist, which means you remove 2/3rds of their base resistance with this item). You've given this item LITERALLY everything a mage could want for damage except cooldown reduction, which is really bad design (this is one of the reasons tanks don't have a trinity force; it would provide literally every stat a tank could want, so their ideal build would change from being based on what you need to defend to 5 tank trinities).

don't you think you shoved too much stats on 1 item? i mean given the health and the magic pent factors, alongside a DoT, and a 120 AP..

you just gave way too much stats for 1 item
