AP nerfs and Gold Efficiency
EDIT: Here is the spreadsheet of all items' gold efficiencies in the game. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ASPk9DIQug-3x7d2ZZ5PU7c7-NiE9Tj5q3MgeIYZoc4/htmlview?sle=true
With all the rage posts about the AP nerfs, I think it's time to talk about a few things that League has a bad history of forgetting. Gold Efficiency and Slot efficiency.
We'll go over Gold Efficiency. Most people understand the concept of Gold efficiency. it's basically, how much bang for your buck do you get. Throughout League's history, items have gotten more and more gold efficient the higher tier you get. Any item that wasn't gold efficient was considered bad, or noob trap, or otherwise just plain ignored. However, what most people didn't realize, was that AP items had over 130% efficiency on EVERY SINGLE ITEM. the AP items pass reduced some efficiency down to about 110% efficient, But that's still way better compared to the 105-106% efficiency that AD and Tank items had.
In Dota 2, Items get way LESS gold efficient the further up you get. Usually hovering around 70-80% efficient.
The gold increases and itemization pass, simply brought all items down to around 95-100% efficient. AP items were hit hardest because we're used to them being so hyper efficient. HOWEVER, Observe that NOT A SINGLE AP ITEM LOST ANY AP. While most AD items lost anywhere from 5-30 AD while simultaneously having their costs amped up similarly to AP items.
Next we need to observe that AP can go way higher than AD because of Rabadon's. The common AP mark is around 600-700 AP. While the highest AD (in a raw amount) is about 400.
Overall yes, it was a MINOR nerf, but it doesn't completely negate AP champions from being viable.
only feels the buffs with all other mages being weakened.
