Kindred is kind of a letdown kit-wise

Big Lincoln··82 votes·5,762 views

I mean, there's nothing new about him and Wolf isn't even involved in anything besides W?

I was kind of hoping that they'd actually capitalized on the 'dual champion' theme that you missed with Quinn, but Wolf feels like he's generally inconsequential

On the bright side, I think the premise is really cool; pushing an ADC into the jungle and offering up melee bot laners in place of them? Riot's at least doing a good job of trying to shake things up.

Lamb marks champions for death, wolf marks monsters. Lamb stops death with ult, wolf fortells doom with the slow and hp damage. Lamb does arrow rain, wolf does frenzy.

Big Lincoln15 votes

The duality theme is actually more prominent than I thought, but it still seems a little uninspired.

Their Q seems like it has the potential to be unique, but I think E should be replaced with something else. We don't need more % damage

NineTailedMystic4 votes

Q is literally Ahri ult, but only with one dash.

Big Lincoln42 votes

then it's not an ahri ult, is it?

IcyPepper8 votes

At least not "literally."

If you're going to follow a "literally" comparison with "but," think carefully.

ItsJrodzYo4 votes

The % damage is physical though. It's not as oppressive as vayne's true damage because it can be countered with armor.

ihaveapotion8 votes

theres armor in this game?

Ralanr1 votes

Yeah. It got nerfed.

I don't think people noticed that each of them have 3 abilities.

Wolf is a glorified prop with a voice.

I also like the idea of a Marksman in the jungle. I think it is very cool. However, Kindred was played up as a duel champion as you said and I agree that they failed to capture that. W should be a huge part of the kit not something to boost Q like it seems to be.

Mordekaiser is now bot lane! Kindred is a Dc in the jungle! Bard is a roaming support!

What's next? An AFK champion that buffs globally the team?

old zilean used to already do that with his passive... before they gave it a radius (4.19)

Kindred is a disconnected play in the jungle?

Zavern9 votes

Wolf just seems like a pet, not a friend. The passive, W, and Ultimate are neat, but both the Q and E are bland and uninspired. It kills me seeing some really cool champions not getting enough effort put into them.

Felvyne5 votes

Not all skills can be original, some of them must be functional in order to make the champion work, i think. And I feel that Wolf is the "brainless" of the duo, so it's natural that Lamb comands.

AutoreactiveCD42 votes

I'd argue that some skills need to be somewhat bland. If not you risk making a champion overloaded, broken or a pain in the ass to play against.

coughYasuo cough

AutoreactiveCD45 votes

Wasn't going to say it out loud. But yes he was the inspiration for my opinion.

i like pie mmm1 votes

that's unfair since a lot of new mechanics are like that at all. Yasuo's windwall isn't broken it's the fact that he is a manaless champ that can use it whenever it's on cooldown like zed and katarina that makes him oppressive. If you put a mana cost on everything it tends to balance out a lot better. Look at Fizz/Ekko. If they play a skilled opponent they will have a lot of trouble since they have really bad early game

AutoreactiveCD41 votes

I agree with most of what you say. Thing is, he has so many unique and, at the time, new mechanics. Ult extends crowd control, the way his shield works, unique crit interaction, unique mobility mechanic, first projectile blocking wall, etc. I'm not against any of these being implemented, but they put a lot of new or really unique things on this one champion.

I'm glad Riot wants to experiment and expand its horizons, but too much at once isn't the way to go I feel.

yasuo is extremely well designed, boards are crazy

Im not saying yasuo is op im just saying his skills are bland yet hes still very good

The unique mechanic seems to be the hunt that increases damage. Also its a jungle marksmen. Some people may find it boring, but I personally enjoy getting simpler kits every now and then.

KatCraft2 votes

But does jungle marksmen embrace the theme of the champion? Not really.

I don't really think the kit itself is that bad, and jungle adc is kind of neat, but considering the potential they had with a dual character champion, you would expect something a bit more creative. Tahm devours people and transports allies, Ekko slows and saves himself with a time manipulation theme, these kits embraced the feel and identity of the champion. Kindred is lacking it.

AutoreactiveCD41 votes

Fair enough. Though I do feel the ult will appear more thematic when we know more. I get the feeling this is loll's grim reaper.

i like pie mmm2 votes

the ult is a jinx wet dream, every goes down to 10% health and she fires it off to hit at the end of the duration

AutoreactiveCD41 votes

Alright so we have one vote for the theme of some kind of personification of death and one vote for the theme of jinx's arousal. Anyone else want to contribute/vote for their favorite?

KatCraft1 votes

And I don't think making Wolf "brainless" and just a pet for Lamb was a good or necessary decision. I was hoping for more of a duel champion playstyle, such as a passive where switching between Wolf or Lamb changes the strengths and weaknesses of the kit, Wolf for offensive abilities and Lamb for defensive.

Honestly it wouldn't be that hard to implement and not any harder to balance than Gnar.

Felvyne1 votes

Honestly, I was also hopping for a dual champion, but I won't complain because I like how Kindred is looking. But I hope that Riot tried it at first but didn't work. Maybe in future champions, in future concepts... Yin and Yang is still an open concept, dark and light...

Xeynid9 votes

I think it makes sense that one of them is more "real", while the other is a ghostly presence that affects large areas.

MarshallBananna8 votes

The fanmade champ concept with the Ying/Yang (which kinda looks like kindred) was 10x better than this.

Pyrodinium10 votes

How so? That concept didn't even had a kit.

BuzzinTate1 votes

I think he's saying art wise, because it did inspire me

RowanEnd6 votes

I love the aesthetics but the kit seems a little... uncreative. And their ultimate is too similar to bards/an aoe tryndamere ult.

KatCraft8 votes

It's one of the few times a kit failed this hard to fit in thematically with the visual style of the champion. Azir was an example done right, a unique mechanic that fitted an emperor character, Instead of Kindred embracing dual characters to try and introduce a new gameplay style, turns out it's just lamb and her pet, like Quinn.

Felvyne4 votes

Actually, I feel that Lamb and Wolf are far more coordinated and are what Quinn and Valor should be.

Thief of Time3 votes

Though they don't share equal skill usage I feel like wolf will talk equally as much in dialogue. Maybe even commanding lamb when its kill time

Kalarepa3 votes

I like Kindred visual and voice, but his kit is just boring. I'm realy disappointed.

Silven2 votes

You know what's a lew down? Another three hit passive. I'm so bloody sick of those.

Big Lincoln1 votes

actually it's an active

Hiemdol2 votes

For me the issue is that Wolf seems more like a pet rather than half of an inspired character. Don't get me wrong, I am super stoked for Kindred (name not withstanding). But Lamb certainly seem to be the boss, or at least the more prominent one in their relationship just looking at the kit which is where I was hoping for more. If we were getting a pet kit I would want a bit more in that regard, if we were getting a dual nature champ I would hope for more inter play. As it stands like I said this looks more on the pet side of things which doesn't fit what I would want out of a champion like this.

In the end though I still really want to play Kindred and can't wait to check out how they feel regardless of how well it fits my fantasy of this kind of character.

ihaveapotion2 votes

yup, another humanoid, another archer, another dash, another steroid, only good thing about this champ is that i wont play it.

Xonra2 votes

I was pretty bummed as well. It is basically just....here is an ADC, it jungles. I mean with minimal changes, it would just be a normal ADC.

Riot made it out like it would be something actually new and unique (that is what they said it would be after saying it wasn't a multi-form champion previously). The passive I guess is new, but there is little about the champion that is actually new and unique.

It just feels like a few other adcs squished together. I like the champion concept, but not the kit. It feels kind of bland.
