Reluctant to play op champions just to climb

Hallbuster··3 votes·1,355 views

I'm tired of being stuck in bronze, almost desperate. Should I just give in and play op champs to climb even if it means I absolutely do not want to play them? I was berated by a Fizz for playing Ryze support when my ADC couldn't carry if it was 2 vs 1. The sad thing is, this Fizz has absolutely no idea how to farm, he had 26 CS in the first 12 minutes, less than anyone in the entire game and still manages to secure more kills than deaths. It just goes to show, you can suck and still be good with broken champions. Since me, at triple the CS still couldn't land kills because while Ryze is op, he is also very hard to play.

i recommend playing simple champions such as Garen or Annie

simple champions will help you in the long run.

Annie Veigar Lux Vladimir for mid (assassins are awful to team fight with later)

MissFortune for bot (pretty much the only viable option if you want to have a crutch fix for your allies' mistakes, plus in low elo you get tons of free damage on R)

Rammus Jax for jg (the other more meta options fall off too fast and your team mates are going to start feeding)

Blitzcrank Nautilus Annie Lux Veigar for support

Tryndamere and Vladimir for top (you don't want first pick, but if not counter picked, a practiced Tryndamere can solo carry with so much as 1 kill in 5 minutes), Jax is also a solo carry if you know EVERY match up inside out (takes tons of investment)

sorry im having trouble infering things from your post.

Did you imply fizz was op? In which case- LOL

are you implying having more kills than deaths wins games? nah

It's a game, you play for fun. For some people, winning is fun, so they play "op" champions. Do as you like. :)

Of course, op is never a good word to describe champions nowadays unless you want downvotes. The best way I can put it, inherently better than most provided they have very little champions as counter.

No, kills don't win games, I just found it irritating how some champions could be played well with little to no knowledge and still perform better than champions like Ryze that take a tremendous effort just to get ahead.

As for having fun, I just want to have fun when I'm out of bronze.

ok, then the best champion to climb out of bronze is a tank jungler. zac/amumu are very good and almost always available

If you want mid, go with ahri, you will never die to ganks, one shot when ahead, and have cc to catch people who step out of line.

oh and: never ever ever flame! It will tilt your team beyond relief. Always try to control flame, by being funny or taking responsibility (even when it may not have been your fault)

I went from bronze to gold as support. Vision game is freelo in low elo

If your goal is to climb, potentially at the expense of fun, you should definitely play champs that will get you the most wins. However, this does NOT mean that you should go to ye olde stats website and find the OP of the month and pick them up. Instead, you should look at your personal record and play the few champions that will give you personally the best chance to win. Playing the same few champions means you do not have to focus on new abilities and can focus on getting better at the game instead. Note that you will have to put some focus on getting better. There are lots of places you can go for ways to go about improving, but they will take time and effort and won't magically happen overnight just because you play "OP" champions.

You may also decide to pick up one or two other champs if you don't have any in your current arsenal that are giving you wins or as fallbacks in case of your mains being picked away/banned/hard counter picked/super nerfed. Of course, you will want to use normal games to learn these champions before bringing them to ranked.

In general, I suggest you try to stick to champions that are expected in the meta for the role you are assigned, especially when you do have solid picks for the role. While the enemy may not know how to play against Ryze support, chances are your teammates don't know how to play with it and may get pre-tilted if you are picking notably off-role picks. Learning to work with teammates, even if they aren't themselves being the most team oriented, will go a long way.

You don't have to play OP champs just to climb. But understanding what works and does not work in the current state of the game is helpful.

Believe it or not, most of the champs are pretty near some sort of balanced state. Find one or two champs in the middle of the pack (or just slightly above the middle) that are fairly simple to play, you enjoy playing, and learn them really well. If you can see people getting to Diamond (or higher) playing off-beat champs, then you know it's do-able. (Heck, I savour taking "bad" champs and proving that they can work. But try that stuff out in bot-game and normal games first before you dare try that in ranked play!)

Now, I'll echo what Kiharon said a bit and say: look for some champs that suit your style of play. Get one or two champs for each role - and yes, they can overlap. Learn all their ins and outs. And it is to your advantage to go to the middle of the pack - esp at the lower ranks - because they do tend to avoid the ol' ban hammer.

Figure out how to build them when facing match-ups in your lane/jungle which may not be favourable. Work on the basics - such as last hits and taking objectives. And learn how to work with the team -- and don't expect that you will carry all the times. Sometimes, you may have to be carried and you can benefit your team in those situations by doing your best to not die.
