"human error is an issue so we're going to make it so manamune can never be turned off"

F03··12 votes·1,190 views

except the issue was people who never turned it off, why the hell would you spam an item that consumes your mana on needless things like farm or jungle camps?

the only time you would even need to use it is on enemy champions or baron/dragon.

this is just to push the "give blue buffs away" agenda

whats next people gonna have no mana because human error can cause you to run out of mana to fight with?

Which is why it only takes the extra mana against champions now.

so we're gonna make the game easier for people who refused to learn?

Vistha Kai1 votes

That'd be in line with Riot's late changes to the game.

OK, there's no one that has read the active and used the item for themselves that hasn't learned when it should be used. They learned it, don't make it sound like they're not trying. What's happening is that the execution of what they know is being made easier.

There's also the question of what's worth having in the game. Was toggling the item a way to show your mastery? Not really, if anything it was a show of your experience with hitting an active item before or after battle. Any mastery tied to it is the same as managing your mana in general.

The way I see it, the change doubles down on your mana management. If you spam spells and run below 20% mana, no bonus damage for you.

Toggling items is a nice feature. I would very much like to be able to toggle sunfire cape.

zedworx1 votes

Also this. It's affect isn't so strong that it should force the player to always push their lane.

Psyturkey3 votes

Well, muramana really wasn't an interesting or game play enhancing active. There was a very definite right or wrong answer. Fighting champions? Turn it on. Doing anything else? Turn it off.

It was an attention tax and added no value to the game.

Manamune only drains mana when hitting champions, not creeps and jungle monsters.

Or it's to reduce the impact of human error.

I don't see what you could possibly be complaining about.

human error or idiot error?

you leave a item running that is constantly draining your sources when you could turn it off.

lets say you have a water cooler, you know it gives you water but you decide to leave it on anyway. You are now out of water. Whose fault is that? its not the items fault

you want to take a bath so you get the water running, you leave it on and the tub over flows. Whose fault is that?

should people make a tub so that the water will automatically shut off because you personally failed to be responsible?

come on

Z Statistic5 votes

should people make a tub so that the water will automatically shut off because you personally failed to be responsible?

These things already exist in the form of overflow drains...

Stop trying to turn this into an ethical/moral quandary. The point is that it happens. I'm pretty sure that a pro player has forgotten to toggle on his manamune for a second or two after being ambushed immediately following clearing a wave or last hitting. Does leaving the toggle in game add to the strategic depth over the current change?

The only change I do see is if you want to keep the toggle on at less than 20% max mana. Those are probably some edge case, but I can concede they do exist. Now is it worth having a more complicated input to have those edge cases? Riot says no. I agree with them.

im not turning this into anything

the argument is why dumb down a game for people who refuse to learn, you wouldn't leave the water running, you wouldn't leave stove running, you shouldn't leave things that can ruin your chances of victory on.

what are you gonna tell me next that riot is gonna remove the health costs on champions so they can't kill themselves for using abilities?

because thats human error as well

Then you're doing it inadvertently because:

You are now out of water. Whose fault is that?

Fault is a morality/ethical word.

because you personally failed to be responsible?

Responsibility is another ethical word.

what are you gonna tell me next that riot is gonna remove the health costs on champions so they can't kill themselves for using abilities?

Soraka's W fizzles when below a certain threshold. And health costs actually CAN'T kill you for this exact reason. They reduce your health to 1 regardless of cost. Here:

Champions can never kill themselves due to ability casting, as their abilities become free at critical levels of health.

But you've failed to answer my question: is leaving the toggle available purely for that edge case I listed above worth the price of human error that can affect even pro players? No, the argument of 'dumbing down the game' does not adequately respond to this question.

what edge? what complicated input? pressing one button is complicated to you?

Z Statistic5 votes

if you want to keep the toggle on at less than 20% max mana

Please read something if you're going to respond to it. It wasn't even long.

what complicated input? pressing one button is complicated to you?

Being required to press a button to trigger even X is strictly more complicated than not being required to press a button to trigger event X. Just like having to keep track of jungle timers is strictly more difficult than not having to keep track of jungle timers regardless of absolute difficulty for either.

so being able to run around spamming abilities now without thought is ok?

alright you got it

Z Statistic3 votes

Now you're just being silly. Of course you can't do that. You have to manage your mana and cooldowns just like before.

What doesn't have to happen is remembering to push a button to toggle something.

Mecha MaIphite1 votes

Just because he used a word doesn't change the topic to one about morality.

How is "fault" strictly an "ethical" word, anyways? It can be used in a variety of different contexts. It sounds like you're just trying to overcomplicate things by thowing in philosophical buzzwords.

Z Statistic3 votes

By itself? You're right. In tandem with 'responsibility'? Less likely.

The question in these situations is "preserving the current level of complexity for these edge cases better for gameplay than reducing the complexity and thereby restricting decision making?" not "should we dumb the game down or not in this case?"

67chrome3 votes

human error or idiot error?

It's more an issue of bad controls.

There are plenty of situations where you have Muramana and you're splitting focus between pushing and poking champions, playing footsies, and waiting for an opening while trying to trade/burst and back off.

Needing to constantly turn the passive on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off is pretty annoying concerning that item.

It's not an issue of just leaving the passive on all the time and wondering why you're OoM, it's an issue of unnecessary busy work when fights aren't simply all-out ham fests with wombo-combos.

Such fights aren't the type of fights you usually want to pick with anyone purchasing Manamune either: the whole play style Manamune encourages is a poke-heavy style where you're maintaining distance and chipping foes down with frequent skill usage.

DrNova1 votes

I may be wrong, but I think its the only item with a toggle.

And with everything else you are keeping track of it could be a pain so.etimes. if you don't play the few champs who use it pretty frequently, its very easy to forget it.

Seems more a qol thing then anything else. No reason it HAS to be cumbersome.e

What a dumb fucking change.

Riot is forgetting the old coding adage "You can't patch stupidity" it would seem.

La Barbotte1 votes

patch 6.5

''missing skillshots was huma error so we are removing them from the game, everything is point and click now''

patch 6.6

''last hitting is human error, so you get gold by being near the minions as he die''

league from patch to patch is slowly getting easier and easier as the game is handing out mechanics (alistar combo, buff timers, shitty turrets, free homeguard, holes in base walls etc, soon we wont have any wards, no champion will use mana and teamcomps wont matter, we are getting there

hgjkdlsaf jeldvb1 votes

It could be better solved by making it more clear that it is on or off...
