Tl;Dr for riot's "rito pls" segment

Yeah we know you're pissed about dynamic queue. But hey we will consider doing that sandbox thing you wanted.

But before we end this we just want to remind you we don't give a flying fuck about anything ranked that isn't our precious dynamic queue, we're right you are wrong. Deal with it, See ya guys. continue filling the money in our pockets.

Don't forget about the fever dream about League being a sport that lasts generations...holy fucking hell get these devs some medicine for these delusions.

MrWasjig6 votes

No no, I say add more acid. Let's see how convoluted this can get.

Besides all that stuff about a sport lasting generations (ambition is great and all) was all just meaningless white noise to soften to blow that followed.

To be fair, with how games are evolving with being more competitive and either making a game and updating it for a long period of time (e.g. WoW, to be honest it would become obsolete in a few years, LoL, Dota2, even Minecraft, etc.) or either a game series which 'updates' on previous installments (CoD, Halo, Quake, etc), you cannot blame Riot for having a dream like that, which if they don't ruin in a few years (it always take years to destroy a gaming community, e.g. WoW, Quake) might actually be achieved. They did mention that their previous dream was to make a game that they would enjoy, which has been the philosophy of making games for decades.

But these are my two cents on the matter.

Also don't just tell people that their dream cannot be achieved. To be a realist is a good thing and, yes, they could be kicked in the balls really hard if it falls flat, but if someone has a dream, I personally don't believe that you should discourage them to do it, since some them do now that it can fail.

Keevalroy13 votes

Oh I don't fault them for having a dream - it's nice to have "what if?" ideas, but when they suggest that this is the direction they're pushing to and plan to aggressively steamroll through the wall of realism...it legitimately makes me question their sanity. Such a thing is not possible and they should know better. They might make League more accessible, but it will come at the cost of their playerbase.

franticFurball11 votes

Not to mention, at the cost of their dream.

Because, League became a successful ESports miracle because of its focus on TEAMS as fixed units (5man team ranking), and exceptional players who became legends in their own rights as soloQ players.

Well, what does dynQ do?

Groups are no longer a functional unit as there is no more team-ranking, they are being replaced by a freely exchangeable collection of changing pseudo-buddies.

SoloQ players are effectively reduced to filler material for the premaded.

Pokku4 votes

True. My brother would like to play 5v5 ranked but since it doesn't exist, he can't. Dynamic Queue doesn't work for him because he is Platinum while his friends are Silver. Also, he'd like two ladders: one for solo and one for team so that his solo rank is not potentially ruined by the team games.

shyv1 votes

i think it's nice that riot dreams of keeping league alive .. but it's not realistic

half of the people on my friends list quit already and riot really isn't doing anything to bring them back. they're trying to appeal more to the casual fans, but veteran league players, the ones that spend the most money, are getting pissed and leaving.

admittedly i don't know shit about business stuff because i'm a programmer but it seems like a bad way of trying to keep your game alive, by pissing off a huge chunk of your customers

I said it in that thread, but if they do the next season like this one (make the entire first half of the season an extended preseason of testing everything essentially) there won't be enough people around to make it to 2018 lol

Dad: C'mon son lets go play catch league! Child: Are you a real dad?

franticFurball26 votes

And here is the TL;DR for my reaction to it:

"Hey Rito, thanks for confirming my opinion about you. Not another cent from me, unless soloQ comes back. Overwatch is coming, deal with it."

kile1473 votes

Overwatch is more competing with Team Fortress 2 than League, but close enough I guess.

franticFurball18 votes

I see it this way:

Something that is fun is competing with something that is less fun. As far as I am concerned, League with dynQ is not fun to me. Overwatch is :-)

EvilRabbitt4 votes

I can't wait personally. Who are you using? I'm stuck between Widowmaker, D'va, and Genji (sword guy?). :C And I'm impatient.

Competing with TF2? They've already won. TF2 is a badly done hat circle jerk game.

Biff Manly3 votes

To TF2's credit, it's around 10 years old and still thriving as a game. Also, it's more free than League of Legends, somehow.

lolptwo2 votes

I'm honestly SO excited for Overwatch. Reaper main here. The game is actually SO COOL. Cool part is ( not to bash on Riot but to bash on Riot's response on Solo Q) is that Overwatch made a Competitive Ranked system SOLELY based off player demand. It's been Blizzard's baby for the last 8 years and let me tell you the Devs there are REALLY listening.

And by "we will consider doing that sandbox thing you wanted, we mean we will START to consider it in a very long time from now, probably once our silly balance decisions kill the game and it because the new WoW. Goodluck on the rift playing those 4 man-premades that our statistician with no statistics background Lyte has said you guys love!"

Yep. LoL has grown so much because of its competitiveness. You take that away, and what do you get? (Disclaimer: I don't know about TF2 but this is how I perceive it) You get a TF2... pretty fun... casual... not really interesting in my book.

Tik1152 votes

Well to be fair TF2 IS getting an official competitive matchmaking system now, will be an interesting development

Not really, seeing as people have essentially forgotten about TF2, and with Overwatch and other similar "new shiny" titles coming out basically doing what TF2 does, it will be only played by the people already playing it or less.

Leetri1 votes

TF2 is hardly forgotten about, it's the 4th most popular game on Steam. 69,436 people playing the game right now, only Dota 2, CS:GO and Dark Souls 3 have more players.

Xonra2 votes

That isnt honestly all that many people.

Fair comparison. There are people who take TF2 competitively seriously, but it's just not designed to be a competitive game. This queue, likewise, is designed for casual play, not ranked.

Here is the TL;DR for my reaction to it:

Ohh... Thanks Rito i will to keep my friends telling me there is nothing with the dynamicQ because they failed thier maths and can't understand anything about ELO. Yeah keep making sure me and my friends don't get along anymore, that won't creat any toxicity situations.

All this because their marketing aproach is "the more peoples will play together the more they will spend money to show off to eachother anyway they are all uneducated fools" WELL DONE RIOT you guys making sure to destroy even more stuff.

KOC rule3 votes

Wait, if you and your friends are arguing with each other due to league it's not Riot's fault, that means that you guys have an unhealthy relationship and need to fix your friendship internally.

Dr Birdie2 votes

YOU'RE TEARING THIS FAMILY APART RIOT!

PbJMpP4xzk1 votes

No, we are arguing with each other ONLY due to league, in every other games we play or even in sports we play like hockey and baseball we don't argue its league game the way its build its made for peoples to argue over it and get mad at it.

KOC rule2 votes

Regardless of the reasoning or whatever other sports you play, you let the game affect you. Me and my friend can have a discussion about whether a champion is broken or not, and how we came to those conclusions. We can talk about heated topics in league and still not "argue", but have and interesting talk. If you guys let a freaking game affect your friendship negatively that is, in no way, Riot's fault. If you guys let a game get in the way of your beloved friendship, then there is a problem there. If you guys actually damage your bond due to arguments about a game then you guys need some internal work.

league game the way its build its made for peoples to argue over it and get mad at it.

Ok, tell me, what topics do you guys argue about? You seem young, before you can make bold claims about a topic you have no idea about you must stay in your own little world in learn. Before you make claims that you can back up with very little evidence you must learn how to write a full essay. If you come back with some actual counter claim then good on you, but for now just try and make amends with your friends and think about ways to avoid conflict like this in the future.

With this in top of current balance issues I find myself playing more and more aram.

I really wanted to actually play ranked this season and see where I actually fall on the ladder, but guess that wont be happening. Nothing is worse than being the single person on a fourman, or being 5 solo players against two duos.

F035 votes

I do agree riot finally revealed what they were about and I'm looking forward to never spending on this game again

chessman5 votes

Why do you guys insist on being such dicks to them... they acknowledged something about sandbox mode that a lot of people gave them shit for, and said they were going to fix it, and you play it off as just trying to "appease" us and turn it into a negative thing? It was a good step, and I would encourage them to keep trying to be open about things like that. You're literally giving them shit for their transparency...such a crappy thing to do. Would you rather they didn't reverse themselves on sandbox mode??

Besides, they have reasons for implementing dynamic queue. They are a company comprised of a lot of very intelligent people all with the best interests of the game at heart. They know there are some issues with it, and they want to bring things to the best possible state just as much as anyone else. Be patient, understand that there are processes involved and that change in general will require some temporary discomfort (as with anything in life), and regardless, try to be constructive instead of an asshole.

Because we've had enough of riots shit, we clearly don't want dynamic queue and we clearly don't want these half assed promises and excuses.

We want direct answers, this isn't some small company anymore. They make way to much money and are way to popular to be cuddled we don'twant to play the game the way they are taking it and will drop this game in a cold muddy ditch if they want to continue doing what they want

Dr Birdie3 votes

Then stop playing.

[zombie-brand-mindblown]

Xonra4 votes

People dont WANT to stop playing you troll.

That is what you Riot apologists are completely missing. People want to play and like this game. Riot is making it real hard to want to do either right now...hence the frustration.

edit: oi, I gotta stop posting on my phone. Surprised I spelled anything right <_<

Dr Birdie2 votes

Sorry. I can't stop laughing at the fact that you just said "Riot Apologist."

Xonra3 votes

I figured it was less rude than calling you a brown nosing, white knighting, suck up.

Dr Birdie2 votes

Holy cow you are mad. "White Knight?" Really? You're throwing memes at me?

Xonra2 votes

Just calling it like I see it. Dont have to be "mad" to see you making dumb comments to anyone that disagrees with Riot in this thread.

Feel free to not like it, but as I said; I call it like I see it.

Dr Birdie2 votes

I didn't throw a dumb comment. He was making empty threats of "I'm gonna stop playing." So I told him to stop playing. How was that in any way apologizing or making excuses for Riot?

Be patient, understand that there are processes involved and that change in general will require some temporary discomfort

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztVMib1T4T4

Why exactly should I waste time in a game that is not fun to me?

I am here to have fun, not to subject myself to "temporary discomfort". If I don't get fun, then I will go somewhere else, and if I don't like something happeneing to the game I loved and supported for years, I will say so.

chessman1 votes

I never said you needed to. If you want to go play another game until things are fixed, go play it. The game is not going to stay stagnant, things are going to change and sometimes those changes will temporarily make the game worse. The main point is that people should be able to give their feedback, positive or negative, without being total asses about it. Not only does being patient and understanding improve the quality of your own life, but it will encourage riot to actually be open to what you are saying.

franticFurball2 votes

Its cute that you assume I will come back :D Ritos game is not a friend I have been quarreling with and will later attempt to reconcile with for old times sake. Its a product I used for fun. The moment it stops being fun, I stop using the product and replace it with another.

The main point is that people should be able to give their feedback, positive or negative, without being total asses about it

Here is what you should do: Access my post history, especially on the EUW boards. And go back a few months. What are you going to see you think?

#WE DID EXACTLY THAT!

#WE GAVE RIOT OUR FEEDBACK REGARDING DYNAMIC QUEUE MONTHS AGO!

And that was in a completely calm, relaxed, tone. Because at that time, we were still highly invested league players, loving this game. Why do you think we are so pissed off now? Just because something changed for the worse? I play for over 3 years, do you think I never disliked one of riots decisions in all that time?

What we are pissed off about, is the way our input was met. Nothing changed, we are still being FORCED to either use dynQ or not play ranked at all, soloQ play is living hell, the ranked ladder has become completely meaningless, boosting is through the roof, premade trolling by people who treat ranked like "i dont care lel" normals is a daily thing, in short the EXACT problems we were pointing out months ago all came to be, and got worse.

There is a saying in politics: "If you never point out the problem, you have no right to complain."

Well, we earned that right my friend.
