Void Staff Doubt:
Does it:
A) if you have 10 M.pen it makes it 13.5
B) if the target has 100 MR, it now has 65MR
C) if the target reduces magic damage by 50%, it now reduces it by 15%
Thanks.

Ohh Tempest, what an awesome expansion.
Basically it reduces your targets magic resost by 33%

Basically it reduces your targets magic resost by 33%
so, because the logarithmic way in which MR works, wouldn't this mean
becomes bad if the target stacked a crap-ton of MR ?
No it makes it better than flat magic pen
so, because the logarithmic way in which MR works, wouldn't this mean
becomes bad if the target stacked a crap-ton of MR ?
its the opposite
it becomes bad if the opponent has NOT stacked a shit ton of MR
sorcerers shoes do 15 penetration as does liandry's
so lets go with 30 flat vs 35% penetration
against the standard 30 MR on a ranged champion.. lets say 42 cuz runes or whatever
you deal 1000 damage
so 1000 * 100/(100+42MR) = 704.23 damage without penetration
with 30 flat penetration its 1000 * 100/(100+42MR - 30) = 892.857142857
with 35% penetration its 1000 * 100/(100+42MR - (42*.35)) = 785.545954438
but then lets look at this
30 is 35% of what
x * .35 = 30
30/.35 = x
x = 85.7142857143
so if you have 30 penetration then you are better off with 35% penetration if they have 85.7142857143 or more MR or you are getting your money's worth as long as your target has this amount of magic resist.
for just sorcerers shoes its
x * .35 = 15
15 / .35 = x
x = 42.8571428571
this is half of the other number so the amount of penetration you'll want on your next item is a simple thing to calculate for the most part. If you have to choose between 35% and 15 penetration then check to see if they have at least 43 magic resist... probably works for every 43 magic resist they have too actually.
% penetration is counted before flat penetration during damage calculations by the way so if they have 100 MR and you have 35% + 15 flat then you will penetrate 35 + 15 = 50 magic resistance.
its the opposite
it becomes bad if the opponent has NOT stacked a shit ton of MR
hmm, actually, it would seem the damage is always increased by 10%
**at 100 MR: ** 100/200 = 50% resist - (voidstaff) 100/165 = 40% resist
at 200 MR 100/300 = 66.66 % resist - (voidstaff) 100/230 = 56% resist
so if you have 30 penetration then you are better off with 35% penetration if they have 85.7142857143 or more MR or you are getting your money's worth as long as your target has this amount of magic resist.
i kinda reached that conclusion, i think around 90 MR is when void staff becomes better than 30 flat pen, then it varies depending on runes and masteries.
thanks.
I believe the order of pen is:
Reduction
% Penetration

Flat Penetration
Examples:
If you had all four items versus an opponent with 150 MR...
150 is reduced by 25 from Abyssal Scepter to 125 MR 125 x 0.65 = 81.25 MR (From % Pen) 81.25 - 15 - 15 = 51.25 MR
If you had Void Staff, Sorcerer's Shoes, and Liandry's Torment:
150 x 0.65 = 97.5 97.5 - 15 - 15 = 67.5 MR
I believe that is how it works.
???? do you even know what % and magic pen is?

do you even know what a "doubt" is ?
text reads "+ 35% magic penetration"
Which by that, it would mean it increases your M.pen, which doesn't seem to be the case, it's a bad tooltip.
