If you were trying to reduce snowballing, then why does Mejai's still exist? Why are the elemental dragons a thing? Why does Rift herald now exist (a buff that lasts pretty much forever after you get it)? Why is first tower blood so high? If you want to make the game less snowbally, there are so many other things you can change. I feel like removing this item was basically giving AD champs the middle finger for no reason at all.

It was never a "regular purchase" (on anyone). Like Mejai's, it was an item you got if you or your team were snowballing.

And there you go. And even though Mejai's wasn't purchased "regularly", it was still purchased. Blade of the occult was pretty much a troll item for having fun
Mysticman891 votesI think sword of the occult was removed not for snowball related reasons, but more because it was a trap buy on the majority of champions. As it only gave AD (instead of AD+crit or AD+AS or similar), the number of champions it was slot efficient on was probably single digit out of the 100+ champs.
