Champion matchup misconceptions

Do you have any matchup ideas that are perceived as being in favor of one champion when in reality it is not true and you want to discuss that? I have some:

  1. Malzahar versus Zed

Misconception: Malzahar counters Zed

Reality: Zed can potentially outpoke Malzahar, with him having no way to reply Zed's poke because he has to choose between using E on minions to farm, or using E on Zed to poke him. Even if Malzahar decides to farm, outpushing Zed is meaningless because he has a rather easy time farming under the tower. To make the matters worse, Malzahar has no escapes. If the enemy jungler comes, Zed can get an easy kill off Malzahar, and snowball from there. Also, because Zed is an AD champion, he has no issues when building QSS, because item 3139 is, in fact, a very good item for him, especially after the changes.

However, Malzahar can take advantage of when Zed roams to push the lane hard and take the tower, therefore punishing Zed for roaming. Also, Malzahar outscales Zed during the late game with his superior teamfighting potential and ability to buy Zhonya and Rylai to become unkillable by Zed (though if Zed has a QSS - it is unlikely that he will not have one - then Malzahar can't kill Zed either).

  1. Vladimir versus Nasus

Misconception: Vladimir counters Nasus

Reality: Vladimir can outpoke Nasus during the first levels, but once Nasus come back with a item 3211 he can shrug off Vladimir's poke. Vladimir can't really kill Nasus during the lane phase without help of his jungler, and he can't really prevent Nasus from farming. With enough stacks, Nasus can actually all-in Vladimir, using his W to prevent Vlad from escaping. With his passive lifesteal, Nasus can just sustain himself and he can have kill potential on Vlad, while Vlad can't have kill potential on Nasus.

However, with CDR runes, Vladimir can sustain himself well, therefore preventing Nasus from having kill potential on him. They also potentially allow Vlad to actually kill Nasus during the lane phase even with a Specter's Cowl. While Vladimir cannot punish Nasus, he can outscale Nasus during teamfights, though that part is more team dependent. If Vlad's team has enough CC to keep Nasus off their carries, then Vlad will have an easier time teamfighing due to his damage and sustain being more consistent.

  1. MonkeyKing versus Vladimir

Misconception: Wukong counters Vladimir

Reality: Unless Wukong cheeses Vlad at the first levels, he can't really kill him. Vlad will just sustain himself, and because Wukong has no sustain himself, he can be outpoked by Vlad. Also, Vlad can pool to avoid most of Wukong ult's damage. Did you know that Vlad can use his E to detect where Wukong is going if he used the decoy? By starting Cloth + 4 pots and playing safe while using Q to poke, Vlad will never be killed by Wukong.

However, Vladimir does not have the tools to stop Wukong during teamfights, even with Rylai he can't really do much to stop Wukong from just killing his carries. Also, Wukong can still kill Vlad during an all-in early game if he is not careful, so Vlad should respect Wukong's damage potential and should never try to direcly duel him.

Agreed...Vlad absolutely does not counter Nasus....Any DECENT Nasus will DESTROY Vlad. Wither, bait vlad pool, wither again, kill. So so so easy.

I main Vlad.

I main Vlad and I must say, this is a skill based matchup. I have actually been able to 1x1 Nasus by using cooldown reduction runes. This is because I had my Q and my pool avaliable more times, thus I had more time to sustain and to slowy out-trade Nasus. They really help in many matchups, even against Riven. I honestly wonder nowadays why I didn't used cooldown reduction runes before. They are just so good on Vlad.

Also, Vladimir outscales Nasus during late game teamfights.

Can confirm. Once Nasus gets SV the lane is over, before that you can bully him hard but beyond that there is nothing you can do.

To be honest Morgana isn't good against supports that can outsustain or outpoke her. Morgana's good matchups are against CC-heavy tank supports that rely on all-inning the opponent to win lane, examples include Blitzcrank, Thresh, Leona, and Braum. None of them have sustain and poke (except Thresh that has poke, albeit very weak)

I know. People just seem to think that Sona auto loses against Morg because "omg you eat a snare and udead" - well if you aren't bad, you're not eating all the snares, since they move slowly, Sona has a speed buff, and she can use minions as shields when she pokes, and you easily smack Morgana out of lane. You even break her shield easily with Q+passive which lets you apply your stun regardless.
