Vel'Koz Appreciation Thread

Let me start out by saying that this is from my experience; you may think differently. I just feel like Riot did such a good job when designing him and making him balanced.

I feel like he's one of those champions that's underappreciated by the community or otherwise overlooked because he isn't useless or broken.

While he has mediocre cc, he has awesome peel. With Vel'Koz, you can't really carry, but you can take measures to make sure your team doesn't lose any harder so that you can come back.

And the DAMAGE, holy crap, the DAMAGE you can crank out with this guy. But even with that damage, he has to rely on skill-oriented combos or has to get stupid fed, in which case the enemy team probably would have lost anyway. If he gets fed, he can burst down people like you wouldn't believe, but is still immobile and squishy enough to take out if he gets cocky or is out of position. Even then, he's got some escape tools, but they do take a good bit of skill on your end (or a lack thereof on your enemy's).

If he's on the loosing end, he can still deal a good bit of sustained damage while still having the consequences of his normal squishiness and lack of mobility. There's always an opportunity to come back if you play your cards right, even though you still have the punishment of being behind.

While he does require some skill, he's not overly difficult to master. Pretty much anybody can pick him up and find great success with a little practice. You don't need any fancy maneuvers, although they are fun and at times very useful.

Fun. Now that is a word I would use to describe Vel'Koz. He's not too hard to play, but he makes you think. You've got an edge with all the true damage you deal, but that won't count for much if you just let yourself get picked off. You're a solo laner who has to be able to take care of yourself, but you also find great success in team situations with your AoE. If you can get some experience under your belt, Vel'Koz can almost never be a bad choice.

In conclusion, I would like to sincerely thank Riot for making such an awesome champion.

Bruh what are you smoking

I just meant that he can't exactly carry in the conventional sense. He can't really initiate fights and is only really there for follow-up damage after your team engages. He can totally be integral to a team's victory, but he is still somewhat reliant on others.

Or if he's fed he can combo half the team alone.

He can, but if he gets close to do his combo, the whole team can just jump on him and eradicate him due to his lack of mobility.

Seeing "Appreciation Thread" and not noticing it's not in General Discussion, I expected wildly different content. Those "Ahri Appreciation Threads" already left trauma on my mind.

You mean something more along the lines of

"Vel'Koz has become engrossed with anal..."

I find him to be very feast or famine. Either I do really really good, or really really bad. Not much in between. :P I definitely enjoy maining him though.

Vel'koz is indeed great. Too easy to counter with ms and quick reactions and I miss when you didn't need to prep your ult with abilities, but I still enjoy playing him mid and support.

Personally I felt that before he got his little update he dished out much more damage. I use to play him a lot, fun champ.

Only the Bellest of Bozzes, the Bamboozle is my favorite mage just wish he didn't get hard countered by Xerath.

As a guy with 90k Mastery points on him, I would say his kit isn’t too difficult to learn, but fitting him into the meta is the hard part.

What a nice theme as well. Don't have the BE to buy him myself yet but I always play him on free rotation.

he's my main but for some reason i'm atrocious with him this season. Even the games where I start really well and dominate my laner, I get completely rekt and become useless after laning phase. Last season I had 60% winrate with over 4 of KDA in 60 something games with him and this season it's almost a garanteed loss when I pick him. Don't know why...

Nice visual design, great voice, and is one of the few champaronies I'd consider overall balanced. Agreed, Vel is a great champ.

He's in the same spot as Aurelion Sol for me, can be good and is good, but you see very little play
