Why does everyone who plays Ahri think she's weak?

WoonStruck··6 votes·1,090 views

She perpetually has one of the highest win-rates in the game.

She's not weak.

What you guys want her to be able to do is not good for the game, considering her mobility and pick potential.

I hope you realize she'd get serious nerfs following any kind of buff you wanted. You're lucky Riot hasn't touched her already.

Over 10% play-rate for how long? Practically since release.

Over 52% winrate for years, despite being one of the most popular champs in the game.

So...tell me how she's weak.

Everyone hinks that their main is balanced or weak.

I swear Ahri could have a 60% win rate and her mains would still think she's under powered. I should note that Ahri mains complained when they made her an assassin but then complained when they turned her back into a mage. I like Ahri as a champion but her mains sure are annoying.

I remember seeing a bunch of people trying to defend her 58% winrate in 5.2. Good stuff.

I remember that too, that she was gutted/nerfed and she was useless after those changes despite the 58% win rate.

I find her a little hard to farm with. Also, she doesnt 100-0 anyone. She makes plays, which maybe isnt appreciated enough in a supposed DMG carry who you see doing outplays on youtube and who used to get DFG.

I play her a bit like I play TF. Lots of cdr and peel and poke and waveclear. I remember carrying one game by building athenes and constantly charming the dianna who tried to jump on our pre-rework fiora. The minute I started doing that and stopped trying to be aggressive, the game did a 180. She is really great for dealing with comps that want to dive someone on your team. Shes also really great at diving too, but she is more about an extended fight, somewhat like an adc is, because of her mobility going in and out of a fight based on her cooldowns.

And this is exactly why I say people are doing something wrong. They expect to go in and kill someone, as opposed to what you've said, which is exactly how you play her now.

She is absurdly strong in the right hands.

I wouldnt say she is absurdly strong. Id say that she is a champion that you can reach your tru elo with. She has a higher than average win rate due to the fucked up ranked philosophy of "carry 4 idiots plz". The way I see it, the deck is stacked against you in ranked and if you play a champion that cant more or less fill for what ever aspect of the game your team lacks you will fail more often than not.

You need a champion like ahri who isnt the best at a single thing and therefore gimped at everything else. Thats more or less ahri. Some good peel and playmaking (probably her strongest thing), good clean up potential with ulti (not the best), good waveclear (not the best), good poke (not the best), can also split (not the best). Whatever your team needs she can give you some of that and a little more of something you do already have to carry the game with.

No, she's not absurdly strong in general. She is absurdly strong in the right hands though. My statement still stands. If you know what to do with her, when to do it, how to do it, she will make a great pick for any comp. She's like Irelia has been for top lane, barring the current over-tuned messes up there.

But you are correct in her 'jack-of-all-trades, master of none' aspect.

"Why does everyone who plays Ahri think she's weak?"

Well, why dou you think, that everyone who plays Ahri thinks, that she is weak? Sure, there will always be somte extremists, who says stuff like that (you can find someone like that for every champion in the game basically), but I don't really see any base for your claim, that everyone thinks that.

Ahri is defintely a strong champ, and I like and play her alot (so, well, I probably would be one of those Ahri-Mains, I guess..). She has a lot of options and possibilites in her kit, since she is kind of a jack of all trades. So whatever happens in a game, and even wehn behind you will always be able to stay relevant and to adjust to the situation. Plus, you can play her really safe, thanks to your ultimate. Which is, I think, the biggest reason for her high-winrate. Not, because she is so strong, that you win games with her so much. But because you can play her, so you don't lose the game for your team. With other champions, you either win the game oder you became not only irrelevant, but you also become easy targets for the opponent. Thay aim for you, get even more kills for their team and continue to win the game. With Ahri, you have alway the possibilty, to use your Ult defensively. Sure, you will lose the offensive-kill pressure. But when you are behind, you don't really have that anyway anymore. So, you play it safe, deny the enemy to snowball the game, and find a way back into the game by altering your playstyle to the more defensive/kiting way. I don't really think alot champions are ably to change the way of playing them that flexible as Ahri.

Atleast thats what I think about the reasons for her high-winrate.

well said.

Well her farming in the early-mid game is pretty tough. She loses a lot of last hits due to the fact that her q hits in 2 waves rather than one and the fact that minions move for no reasons some times making your second wave completely miss. Plus her w damage is hard to reliably farm with. Don't get me wrong - she is a good champion - I tend to do really well with her but OP? Nah. Diana destroys her, annie destroys her, zed destroys her, malzahar destroys her. These are all very common picks in games too so she can't be OP.

Her farming early is pretty rough, but its manageable with experience. Definitely not enough to realistically set her back vs a good portion of the roster.

It doesn't set her back - she is a safe reliable pick. She wont get destroyed in lane no mater what she does. Even if she is underfed she can contribute late game by being hard to kill and providing a very strong easy to land CC. Plus she can secure kills very easily if she holds her ult. She also roams well. These are reasons that she has a high win rate. However her 1v1 matchups aren't very good though. IMO it's hard to be an OP champion if you dont even win your 1v1's in lane. I rate her at about being as valuable as leblanc.

And who the fuck thinks she is weak?

Madra1 votes

She's weak because Leblanc exists.

Ahri hasn't been weak against Leblanc in a very long time. It's an Ahri favored matchup now and has been for quite a while. http://champion.gg/matchup/Leblanc/Ahri/Middle

Because people still remember when Ahri was an assassin and could 100-0 anyone hit by an E. Now that she's a mage, sacrificing damage for utility, she can't do that anymore, so she feels weak compared to what she was.

I don't consider myself an Ahri main, but I do play her a lot and I do well with her every game. I don't think she's weak at all, but I do think she feels weaker than she used to be despite the benefits of 'new' Ahri.

Comparable to current Lee Sin, J4, and Xin Zhao. They're all completely fine, perhaps even a little overbearing, but compared to what they once were, they're extremely weak now.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

ahri brings utility, hardly damage. she needs a second rotation to kill mostly anyone. except maybe a veigar or a karthus without roa.

She only has a high win rate because she always needs to get carried.

once i was playing vel against an ahri, i had like 80% hp in lane, then she went agressive on me, i dodged her e and q but she kinda killed me with simply ult and w and i was rushing athenes.

YCitizenSnipsY1 votes

Nobody thinks she's weak, you just don't like the champion and like to make things up.

"Over 10% play-rate for how long? Practically since release." Only if All of season 4 doesn't exist in that time line.

"Over 52% winrate for years, despite being one of the most popular champs in the game." 1 year, she has had a high win rate with high popularity 1 year and that was season 5.
