The need a straight nerf, they are already overbearing and crowd out poke supports since early S4.

Velkoz does well against tanks because of his passive, Bard pretty bruiser-y compared to poke supports, and Thresh is well....Thresh.
As for nerfing the Spellthief line; it's already a waste of gold to upgrade it. You don't get any extra gp/10 out of it, and the active is pretty shit compared to Talisman or FotM.
Aren't there other anti-engage/disengage supports? Like:
Annie is more of an initiator that doesn't really do too much to tanks, and Alistar is a tank himself (with almost Janna tier disengage but also has engage).

see, the problem is the current meta is: pick a tank or counter the tank that will be in the other team (100%) this is just binary and boring.
Alistar is a tank himself, Karma doesn't work since she can't poke tanks as well as she could, and Annie doesn't work vs tanks.
kJs1 votesAnnie does work against tanks. I'm not talking about 100-0 tanks I'm talking about successfully disengaging from tank engages while still holding up in lane, poking with autoattacks and what not.
Alistar's Headbutt is great at disengage IMO. He has no poke but he counters engages pretty hard.
Melee Tanks have really hard times against zoning champions, like Karma. She has a snare to lock you down for peeling or for disengaging. Coupled with a shield that boosts movement speed and a zoning ability that is her Q.
If you're thinking of a buff for 
don't look to their damage.
I don't use supports that need it nor do I use poke supports but I've played against many and damage buffs wouldn't be the way to go.
Maybe increase gold rewards for successful pokes or mp5.
