With a 30 second cd spellshield available theres only one thing to do:

Karthus's ult cannot be blocked by spellshield or zonyas.

Boom of doom.

Spell shield sure. Hourglass is a different can of worms.

Hourglass falls Into "invulnerability" status with mixed untargetability status as well.

invulnerability by itself basically means I take NO damage. By anything. Simple. You are still succeptible to CC tho. Think kayle taric and kindred ults.

Untargetability means you exit the map , or at least your champions hitbox does. (Champion model == hitbox) That means you are immune to any further damage coming toward your vhampions model. But any dots and spells attached to your champion before the untargetability will stay with him and he will take their damage. Untargetabilities are vlads w and fizzs e.

Zhonias and bard ult are a mixture of untargetability, so not only are you immune to all damage, but you cannot be ccd either.

Now what can we do about karthus ult? It should go through untargetabilites like vlad w or fizz e( I'm not sure if they bug fixed this yet I know Zils q got fixed) I don't see any game breaking reason why it shouldn't go through spell shields , but what about invulnerability ?

You already answered it. It's because they are invulnerable to damage and CC.

I forget who said it, but here's a better idea.

Break Karthus' ultimate down into three short bursts. One burst per second of channeling.

Say his ult does 300 damage total after accounting AP and such.

Break it so it does 100 at one second of channeling, 100 at two, and 100 at three. The spellshield would only block ONE of those bursts, if I understand the item correctly.
