Transferred to Latin North, got 100 average ping NA and I'm getting 40-50 ping Latin North

IsIsGankedParis··8 votes·2,959 views

What. The. Hell.

I play on NA to get high ping but I have to play with Latin North to have decent ping, Riot tells me it's my ISP's fault for my issues in game with lag and ping, yea right.

Have to deal with playing with people I don't understand to actually play the game.

Oh this is part of gameplay because I can actually do things I couldn't do before with decent ping now.

LA North server is in Miami if I remember correctly, so yeah it's going to have a better connection

Hayaishi1 votes

Same here m8, tired of NA's shit.

When the ping gets better i'll go back.

Cale0171 votes

Latin North doesn't have as many people bogging down the servers as NA does.

Cale0173 votes

And honestly 100 ping isn't even that bad. In most cases it's barely noticeable, and isn't going to be the reason that you miss a game making play even if it's why you miss a CS here or there. I usually play at about 80-90 and it seems perfectly responsive to me.

According to many Korean Pros, there are combos on certain champs (like Zed and Fizz) that you can't do in ping that is above 60ish. While I HIGHLY doubt anyone on these boards has the skill to actually worry about being gated by ping issues like that, 100 ping CAN mess up that "game making play"... according to Korean Pros.

Cale0172 votes

Well when you become a Korean pro and it's actually affecting you then maybe you'll have a point to make. Otherwise it's a pretty normal amount of ping for what the comparatively scrubby NA player's skill level requires to succeed.

FyshinaTux4 votes

Pretty much exactly what I said... thank you for reiterating.

Cale0171 votes

Not quite. I said that it isn't anything that's going to affect you. You brought up that Korean pros can notice a difference.

You aren't a Korean pro, therefor 100 ping isn't actually affecting you any. So you have nothing to complain about sitting at 100 ping. There are people who'd kill for that low of a ping.

FyshinaTux2 votes

Lemme... Lemme see if I can say this again in the form of a logic argument.

"I HIGHLY doubt anyone on these boards is good enough to worry about getting gated by ping issues like this"

is on these boards

Logic would follow that I fall under the first statement, since I fall under the second statement.

So yea... You said exactly what I just did, although now you've said it twice...

Cale0171 votes

So just so we're clear, you're saying, once again, that people who are on these boards aren't affected by 100 ping the same way that Korean pros say they are.

Korean pros with 100 ping = no worky

NA scrubs with 100 ping = no difference

So you.

So you aren't affected.

So you have no reason to bitch about 100 ping.

So I'm trying to figure out where exactly you've got the balls to condescend when you don't even have the eyes to read.

If it isn't affecting you, and you understand that it isn't because you satisfy the two requisites identifying which group isn't being affected, why even complain about it in the first place?

Ya know, since you want to try and use logic like the big kids. I'll keep it simple and just ask directly.

FyshinaTux2 votes

Oh, I'm not saying it doesn't affect us, I'm just saying it's not likely to change whether we make that "clutch play". There is a SEVERE difference between the two.

Perfect example?? I get, on average, 10-20 better CS on LAN during laning phase than I do on NA during laning phase, with the same champions.

So yes, it DOES affect us.

You think you know everything, and you feel compelled to try proving it to the forums by attempting to besmirch me.

Get over yourself.

Oh, and ping's greatest factor is geographical distance from a server, get over it.

Cale0171 votes

So, again, you had literally no reason to argue with my statement of 100 ping isn't going to affect you because 100 ping, by your own admittance, is not affecting you.

I hit the necessary benchmarks for CS just fine on my 90-100ish ping, and 10-20 CS over the course of the entire laning phase isn't really that much. A grand total of around 400 gold. So again, it isn't affecting you in any major way.

I don't have to besmirch you. You do a pretty good job of that by contradicting yourself.

Oh, and on that note you've changed your story from what you said earlier about how ping's only factor was geographical distance, but can't handle that I proved that network load, whether local or regional, can contribute. Get over it.

FyshinaTux3 votes

The issue, is that LAN servers are based in/near Florida, so people on the East Coast will get better ping there than on NA. Has nothing to do with the number of people on the server.

Cale0171 votes

Which explains why ping/lag spikes can tend to happen in patterns, usually coinciding with times that middle or high schools let out and all the kiddos rush home to instalock Master Yi, and why people on the East Coast complain about some of the worst pings, right?

FyshinaTux3 votes

"People on the East Coast complain..."

East Coast is furthest from the servers geographically

It's common knowledge that ping is most greatly affected by physical distance from the server. The reason being that signals traveling through copper (what MOST of the country's infrastructure is at the moment) travels slowly, meaning that over greater distances, it takes a greater amount of time.

Thanks for understanding. ;)

EDIT:

As for the lag spikes coinciding with all the "kiddies", as you say, getting out of school? That would be due to infrastructure issues in YOUR AREA, with YOUR ISP. Which would be why we don't get lag spikes on the East Coast when schools get out on the West Coast.

Has nothing to do with the server (or very, VERY little to do with it anyway).

Cale0171 votes

Which totally explains all the people griping about ping on the west coast.

Oh, and all the hicks bitching about it along the breadbelt.

But, ya know, since the network load would have nothing to do at all with lag in the game, and only the distance, I guess everyone in the nation must be playing on the exact same internet speed and Riot's server ping is entirely unable to be affected by anything other than distance like, oh I dunno, being DDOSed for three months in a row?

Not that anything like THAT has ever happened.

But thanks for understanding ;)

FyshinaTux1 votes

First, I explained the lag spikes in my previous post via an edit.

Second, you shouldn't call people hicks, it's extremely rude, insensitive, and potentially considered racist (or at least bigotry.)

Third, the servers getting DDoS'd has nothing to do with distance, since DDoS'ing slows down the ACTUAL SERVER to the point where it CAN'T SEND OUT THE SIGNALS.

Please, get some schooling before you come back to get schooled again.

Cale0171 votes

Then say something about it in a later post so that someone has a reason to actually go back and read it.

I live in Texas. If anyone has the right to call someone a hick, it's me. I'm an expert in Hickology.

And do you know why it slows down the server? By overloading the network address. Almost like, distance aside, there's only so much activity that a server can manage before it starts slowing down even if you're standing ten feet away from it.

gasp

Almost... almost like there are more factors for ping than just distance.

I KNOW, RIGHT??

Cale0171 votes

And after reading your edit, you realize you just proved me right, don't you?

By admitting that issues can occur in a local area in waves, when there's more activity happening, you're admitting that there are other factors that contribute to ping besides just the distance. Yes, that has to do with the ISP in the respective area handling all of the activity, but it's still contributing to ping.

Once again, meaning that there are other factors that actively contribute to ping besides just the distance. I never said that it was specifically their server not being able to handle it, only that waves of people all bogging down servers at all would cause an issue. Which it does.

FyshinaTux1 votes

You're an idiot.

The discussion is about the ping difference between NA and LAN.

The PRIMARY REASON for this, is the distance from the server.

I shan't argue with your stupidity anymore.

Cale0171 votes

"Crap, he caught me agreeing that there are other factors that affect ping and lag besides distance.

Better call him an idiot and posture some more."

FyshinaTux1 votes

You're absolutely right, and you're absolutely wrong, all at the same time.

Note that I said the greatest affect on ping is distance from the server.

So, AVERAGE pings would be based on distance (we get an AVERAGE of 100-120 on East Coast, while West Coast gets an AVERAGE of 10-20 (or lower??)).

Now, with a DDoS, the sheer amount of traffic through the server being DDoS is so high, that it often takes multiple computers sending INSANE amounts of packets all at the EXACT same time (amounting to a LOT more than the current playerbase of the NA server) in order to bring down a server.

So, if distance will account for 100 ping for East Coast, and it takes uncountable amounts of traffic, all at an instantaneous period of time, in order to effectively shut down the server and kill my game... I'll take the safe bet that distance from the server plays a FAR bigger part than server traffic.

Cale0171 votes

If you hadn't posed such a vehement argument to me saying that network loads can cause lag as well, there wouldn't be any issue here. But instead of just saying "yeah you're right but the distance is also a factor" you just plain said that distance was the only factor. You did not say that distance was the greatest factor, what you said initially was that the ping "has nothing to do with the number of people on the server."

I also never said that it was solely their servers, or rather server, that are causing the issue, but the entire system as a whole being bogged down. Meaning that when the middle and high schools let out in my area and all of a sudden I start getting worse pings, even though it isn't Riot's fault as their server can likely handle that increase in traffic, my local ISP is having a rough time keeping up with the increased traffic that time of day.

i.e. heavier network load = more ping, which was my initial statement and still holds true. As the number of people using the internet in my area increases, the amount of lag I get in game does as well. It's an independent factor from the distance, and it is contributing to the lag. Just because you missed the point of what I was saying doesn't mean I was wrong, Fysh. It means you can't read.

That or you're actually more of a goldFysh which would explain your horrid attention span. Forgetting not only what I've said but what YOU'VE said as well? Don't start backpedaling now, Fyshie. The toilet's already flushing. You've already contradicted yourself twice over now, let's see how much you really want to take that sewer dive.

FyshinaTux1 votes

{quoted} It's common knowledge that ping is most greatly affected by physical distance from the server.

"most greatly affected" != "only reason"

Oh, and btw, != means "does not equal". ;)

Cale0171 votes

Oh, but that isn't what you started off with. Your initial statement was that ping "has nothing to do with the number of people on the server." You didn't retract that until later, after I brought up network loads causing issues.

But by all means, keep trying to backpedal and contradict yourself ;)

Cale0171 votes

As interesting as it's been to have this little diatribe with you, it's nearing 6am for me and I can't procrastinate my daily ritual any farther.

But I sure hope you enjoy sitting on the thought that you've somehow trumped someone who has called you out on two contradictions within two comments and you have yet to address either one, which would actually, in any other situation between two people who understand how a debate or a discussion works, would lend itself more to showcasing a lack of understanding on your part, or a lack of willingness to admit fault by trying to cover up previous statements that are quite easy to be read by anyone who can scroll the page up a bit.

Have a good day, and I hope you don't miss any game making plays off that horrific tenth of a second's worth of ping. God, those 20 CS are going to decide your promos.

Pryotra1 votes

100 ping is almost nothing.

1000 ping is painful.

That said, you likely live near Miami if you are getting that kind of ping.

FyshinaTux1 votes

I'm going to start with "this is SOOOOO stupid" first (the fact that east coast gets better ping on LAN than on NA).

That being said, all you're missing on LAN communication-wise is toxicity. I have an account on LAN, and most of the people say Baron (or something RREEAALLLLYY close to that), they say drag, etc. etc. So you can understand them for what's important.

As for you communicating with them, just communicate via pings. 1 ping = suggestion, 3 = you're telling them, 5 = you're going to rape them (I would stay away from 5 pings).

To SOME extent this is your ISPs fault (TO. SOME. EXTENT.). I had my internet service from Centurylink at my parents house, I moved in with a friend and got comcast, my ping on NA dropped by nearly 20... I moved all of 4 MILES! So, to SOME extent, it is your ISP. That being said, it's Riot's fault that the servers aren't more centralized to better accommodate the entire NA populace.

Oh, and if you're wondering, I get 90+ on NA, and 40-50 on LAN.

Mannysmoker1 votes

I agree with you in the communication in Lan server those people are toxic but with balls, i have a smurf account there where i play to relax and jesus their level of toxicity goes beyond limits, ( i don't know spanish but i play with a friends that does) if you don't gank they start flaming in chat and they report you for every single thing,.. riot lan should make some emphasis there to clean it up, cuz damn son they're remarkable toxic.

and with the pings i got 30 flat no more than that...

and the funny part is that most of those players are laggers even with low ping rates.

FyshinaTux1 votes

That's because players on Latin America North have the same ping issues on LAN that East Coast US players have on NA...

Not sure why the server is located in Miami...

As for your ping on LAN, you must live REEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLL close to Miami, considering I live near Charlotte Harbor and I get 40-50.

SealTeam61 votes

Missing 10-20 cs in lane because my ping is just painful.

WeG1 votes

Why is it every thread I want to post in I see Cale017 trolling in, SMH... Anyway, a few days ago I moved my alt account to LAN, I live in NC and at the very best on NA I would get 125 without spikes. Not sure that actually ever happened, it normally spiked to 200 randomly. The difference starts with missing a couple CS, but since League is a game of snowballing, it is completely a difference maker. 1 CS turns into 5 turns into 10 turns into 100 your missing out on because of bad ping.

I just switched my main to LAN, enjoy a CONSTANT 68 ping without lag spikes, and it's an entirely different game. One notable thing, the W-E-Q combo on Azir to jump two walls was IMPOSSIBLE for me on NA. Easy as hell on LAN. I'm barely even in Gold, who would have thought.. I must have Korean roots somewhere.

Llanite1 votes

The difference is 50 ms, or 1/20 of a second, and human brain needs 300-700 milliseconds to conduct an action. I doubt if you could even realize the improvement.
