since so many people are bringing up possible garen changes for midseason

i wanted to add a couple of my own suggestions. those changes are overall very small to his base kit and wont touch the villainy passive as i regard this as an entirely separate issue.

#1. Add one additional spin at rank 3 and rank 5 to judgement

the reasoning is, to give us a bit more options when it comes to the ordering consideration of ranking up his abilities. due to the level scaling of judgement, and the low impact of putting additional ranks into the ability, the only question currently is if we max the spin or the w after the q. there is never really a situation where spin max currently makes sense.

adding 2 possible extra spins onto the ability might make ranking it up first in specific matchups, ike Jax or Shen who have auto attack negating abilities, a good choice.

i dont think there is any compensation needed here, since this buff would be rather tiny and highly unlikely to take him over the top in his current state.



#2. Trade the innate armor shred of his spin against a 50% attack speed boost for 5 seconds after the spin ends, if enemy champions have been hit by spins 4 times (means faster activation when multiple enemies are hit by his e).

!!!before someone mentions the critical strike scaling, it currently does not factor into his power budget according to riot repertoir. this was one of the reasons why it was kept with the juggernaut rework!!!

while i get the entire purpose of adding the armor shred to his spin to make him a better pick into armor heavy teams, at the same time it feels like uneccessary weight that could be cut for a more useful effect.

if we need armor shred or pen, then we have enough build options with item 3071 or item 3035 items. especially since cleaver synergizes so well with our kit as a whole.

now why the attack speed bonus? for a lot of reasons actually

  • it improves his extended trading patterns and doesnt leave garen useless for 5 seconds after he blew his abilities, and while were waiting that they come back off cooldown again. i actually used to buy item 3142 for exactly this reason when it was still a critical strike item with an attack speed active. as a juggernaut, garen should have more tools to stay in a fight, and not be forced into a skirmisher like hit and run style without the mobility to actually enter and leave fights. every single other juggernaut in his class has much more sustained damage patterns than him, either by being focused on basic attacks, or by incredibly low cooldowns (like illaoi w).

  • it improves his benefit of the item 3071 applied armor shred after the spin ends. currently he only benefits from the shred on 4 spins at lvl 16, and his slow af basic attacks in the time until the spin is back off cooldown (or the q if we held it)

  • it improves the benefit of the 1% true damage on auto attacks against villains

  • it improves item 3812 lifesteal component (more basic attacks = more lifestealing). if his isolated spins (the spins that benefit from the 33% damage amp) would be counted as single target spells on top of that, it would make death dance much more accessable to us as sustain item option we could actually build into, and again improve extended trading patterns. something garen downright sucks at right now.

  • maybe conqueror would become better (with a big ?). though we still couldnt frontload the active, so its still unlikely to be considered.
