Being invaded sucks

FantasySniper··27 votes·2,486 views

They come in and steal your buff right out from under you, almost always killing you in the process. Warding doesn't help if they still have a massive health advantage because they decided to wait there. (Especially if they're Lee Sin or Shaco)

From that point on, you're forever behind and can't get back up if they keep invading. Worst part is that everyone on your team thinks it's easy to deal, and are unwilling to lift a finger to help.

So please, help out your jungler when they're being invaded. Because if you don't, they'll stay useless the entire game and it'll almost certainly be a loss.

Bring on the downvotes, because I know people will come in saying it's easy to avoid when they're just like those so-called "allies" that flame the jungler in chat.

Riiiiight, but when a laner is being pushed out of his lane due to a bad match-up, the jungler be like ''I don't need to help your lane'', ''I'd be wasting too much farm helping you'', etc.

Which is true, because you know why? It's your jungle, which means it's your job to deal with invaders. And sometimes it actually is that easy, just start directly with Blue/Red buff. If you can't even manage to do that, you're just a really bad jungler.

FantasySniper6 votes

Junglers don't have towers. They have nothing to fall back on except maybe a bush if someone decides to go all-in on them.

I'm not saying you should never help out a bad match-up, but it's pretty difficult to compare being invaded to being pinned under tower.

Ulriah1 votes

That's what makes a jungler's job harder, and that's why mobile champs and duelists are better suited in the jungle, but you can't expect your laners to ditch their gold and xp in order to hold your hand in the jungle, just like it's not the jungler's job to hold a laner's hand.

Was just invaded by a Trundle as Sejuani. My game kinda got royally fucked after that.

He was the Sejuani. He got invaded by a Trundle.

Oh my bad. I did read that wrong

I don't think you read that correctly.

Was just invaded by a Trundle as Sejuani.

  • They were Sejuani
  • They were invaded by a Trundle

Since you believe "sejuani has the worst early game of any jungler", why wouldn't they have lost the fight?

EndlessSorcerer1 votes

I once spent about two and a half minutes running around my red buff with the enemy Shaco interrupting it every time as Sejuani during my first clear. At no point during this time did my support or mid-laner move to help me, so I had to give up the buff.

I think the saddest thing was that the mid-laner was my brother (and we were in the same room) and the support was a friend of mine...

Ralanr1 votes

That sucks man. I was playing with friends and my midlaner did come to help, but so did the enemy. We ended up giving the midlaner and trundle a kill.

Taliyah freaking hurts.

Though you can also help yourself by starting a different camp.

If you know the enemy jungler is someone who can invade, you can always start out red instead of blue. Only exception is when you KNOW your clears are so fast and that your sustain is so tough that getting invaded will not be a problem.

You can also try warding at the enemy jungler's first possible camp, and keep an eye out for that. If you don't see him at that camp, he's probably at the other side of the map, or has strange clear patterns.

Giving up a camp is already bad enough, but giving up a kill as well as lots of EXP is the last thing any team would want to see on a jungler. Just some very helpful tips especially if your laners can't help you right away when there's an invade.

Bisaknosp3 votes

well simple solution: if you think you get invaded change your jungle route start with the other buff, ward near the other one and so on

One of my recent ranked games was a premade trio of mid/jg/ADC that viciously counterjungled our LeeSin. It was a cheese AP Alistar jungle who spent the entire fucking game in our jungle while his Jhin mid friend assisted in murdering him at every single camp. No amount of help from me (top) or my mid was enough to stop it since Jhin stayed at range and Alistar knocked us away when we got to Jhin. Meanwhile their ADC shoved to turret the entire game because there was no threat of ganks and Lee Sin couldn't buy anything more than a single pink ward for vision (thanks Season 6).

Fuck Dynamic Queue.

Yeah sucks that there isn't a jungle item that gives wards... oh wait

There are a couple things you can do to make invading less effective.

First if you think you are going to be invaded, modify you jungle path. Either start your buff first and then rotate to the otherside of the map or take your first buff camp 3rd so you have smite for it. I prefer the latter option in most situations as it actually allows you to leave jungle with more health than the normal clear, especially on red side. It also means that if they try ti invade you they are effectively a camp behind AND you can contest your buff because you both have smite.

You can also start on the opposite buff that you normally would. Start red with Amumu etc

If you don't modify your strategy based on your matchup then you really can't complain when things go against you. I'm not siding with salty and useless laners, I'm merely pointing out that sometimes you get outjungled because you get outjungled just as laners feed in lanes because they get outplayed.

I'm still waiting to reach an elo where people watch for invades during the first 1:30 or so instead of afking by their tower. Mid-low plat doesn't seem to cut it, maybe diamonds are better? Maybe?

With a small handful of exceptions, it's not like people have something better to do while they wait for minions. That way you know theres no level 1 invade cheese shenanigans, and barring advanced mind games (which I highly doubt would be a thing sub-diamond) you can figure out where their jungler started based on bot/tops arrival time to lane [assumption being they're leashing, since without a leash they'll probably be too low to invade], and then (the jg can) counter ward appropriately.

Failed invades set the invader rather behind instead of the invadee, so it's one of those high risk high reward things that probably isn't as risky as it should be at lower elos. For my part, if I see a jg vs jg fight happening in our side of the jungler, I'm prone to be on my way for what should be a reliable kill or at least a burned flash. Even if their jg kills our jg before I arrive, they should be low at this point, and I'm happy to even out the score (and pick up some nifty buffs for myself).

you should have seen the jungle in season 2 with pre-nerfs Lee sin, Shaco, and Nunu

It sucked. Not nearly as bad as Season 6 Nidalee though.

Edit: Oh, and Kindred before her nerf. Graves was just as bad as those 3 as well.

I'm jungle main but still can't deal with being invaded, about 5 mins after being invaded 2-3 times the enemy jungler who is 2 levels higher is already ganking lanes while I'm trying to catch up.

I really really wish laners would come help but at the same time I understand they don't want to lose CS

Ulriah4 votes

It's not about losing CS, it's about losing CS for nothing. If by the time your laner arrives you're 10% hp while the enemy jungler is almost full, your laner will be really screwed since he'll be trapped in a 1v2. And even if the enemy laner doesn't follow, if the enemy jungler is someone really mobile, your laner would just be wasting time trying to catch him, which is exactly what an invading jungler wants.

Whenever I play jungle against a Shaco/Lee/Eve/etc, I always tell my team to never waste their time trying to help me. If all he does is chase me trying to get a kill, then he's losing as much gold and cs as I am.

If you really believe that you can kill them however, tell or ping your laners ahead of time if you think you'll be invaded, so that you can set up a proper counter-invade. Be aware of your laners' powerspikes though, a lvl 2 Zed can't help at all, at lvl 4 he might be able to get a kill, at lvl 6 he'll most definitely have the potential to get the kill.

THIS, SO MUCH THIS. I LOVE THIS POST SO MUCH.

If you're 25-40% health taking a jungle camp and expect to get invaded do not do it. Especially if the laner your counting on doesn't have wave control (pushed into his turret).

Don't be so linear and start a different route if you think you're going to get counter jungled. If I go against a Shaco or a cheese level 2 jungler who plans on killing me at red level 2 I just start blue and take his red. This maximizes my efficiency since a Shaco will most likely wait for you to start a buff to take it and kill you so you end up just wasting his time.

This is of course a very extreme scenario, but you get the point.

DevlinCrow1 votes

Good points very helpful!

Elikain1 votes

The point of an invade is that it's a sneaky thing to do. You're getting counter jungled at the same time everyone is on their lanes and unless you beforehand know there's an enemy jungler in your bushes waiting for you to start the buff, the laners can't magically teleport to you and kill him 1v5.

Invades do need to be punished by the team that's countering them as if it isn't, it's a calculated risk for the enemy team. On the side note, if you already know you lost a buff or that there's no other way to stop it from getting into the enemy hands, you need to drop it because it's not worth throwing your life and gold in the enemy jungler's face, on top of getting the buff.

PapaGreg211 votes

You have to just play smarter and ward well knowing that most early game invade junglers are going to fall off eventually. It's just how the game is played

Randomonium1 votes

Yeah, it really does suck but an invade is a huge risk that you can also punish.

  1. Drop a ward over your buff if you expect an invade. If they do invade back off and don't try contest it unless your team moves to help. If the enemy jungler doesn't get the kill then it usually sets him behind in exp.

  2. Alternatively, if you expect an invade you can just skip your buff to avoid the level 2 cheese. For example, go krugs and then go raptors and pull the raptors towards your tower. This really shuts down the invade especially if you drop a ward as well. This also allows you to have your smite up for the buff.

  3. If the enemy jungler invades then that means he is vulnerable to an invade. For example, if he invades you at red you can back off and steal his red to stay relevant. If you are low health you can leech off the scuttle crab to regain most of your health.

The reason why your laners usually won't help you is that you should be able to counter invades with decent warding. Furthermore, if a laner moves to help you this puts them at a huge experience disadvantage which can completely screw over their lane if you don't give them some assistance.

Remember, junglers that are good at invading usually need to snowball to be effective in the late game. Even if you fall behind as long as you don't give up kills you can out scale their jungler.

Kaioko1 votes

You can usually ask your mid laner to help you ward at around 1:30 which will stop your invade from happening (be that at red or blue buff).

That being said - yes being invaded sucks but you do need to realize that laners also can't be there to constantly babysit you. I had a jungle graves who was getting invaded by lee sin multiple times and ended up falling really behind constantly helping him.

Just accept the fact that early game junglers, if they decide to invade, are stronger than you. The same thing happens in lane and I never expect the jungler to save my lane for me if I'm losing it (although a lot of people will complain at the jungler).

Dengeden1 votes

Ward the the brush that the enemy will have no choice but to cross if they want to invade. Then, either run away or finish of the small ones if you can. Then, do some other camp while your opponent takes the inefficient route from your buff to their jungle. Congratulations, as all camps give equal XP, you are now not behind.

Sion When does the killing start, ill make a mountain of the dead!

PSA: Dont invade into a Sion he will annihilate you with his passive and aoe stun

Shrek Luigi1 votes

Have someone on the other side of the map ward your camp at 1:30 so you know when you're being invaded. You can either rush down there to steal it or go for the camp in the enemy's jungle.

Also, you can pick a champion with safer jungle clears in the pregame if you notice the enemy team picks a champion with really good invades, like Shaco or Trundle or Lee Sin or something, and have an opportunity to counterpick. These are generally champions with a lot of sustain, a fat stack of defensive stats from level-1 onward, or a ton of mobility for escaping.
