PSA: Your support is allowed to CS if you're not there

FantasySniper··260 votes·8,174 views

I can't tell you how many times I get an ADC bitchin' at me because I take the CS while they're coming to lane or they're way off warding or some shit.

Understand this: If you can't get it, then it goes to waste. So let the support have it when you can't.

I don't care if the support is LAST HITTING minions that would die before I get there anyway. But when a morgana sits there and W's the entire wave and pushes it to the enemy tower, that's annoying.

FantasySniper72 votes

Let me tell you why they would do that, because one of two things can occur.

Pushing the wave to tower will reset it. By the time you get to lane, it's going to be pushing in your favor, and they lost CS. OR The enemy will push it anyways. If an ADC is gone, the other ADC will automatically and/or intentionally push it. The support is trying to counter-push to make sure it doesn't hit the tower, keeping the tower safe and keeping the creeps safe from the tower.

MrBuffington29 votes

What bothers me are situations where no one but the support is in lane, and they can't actually shove to the enemy turret fast enough before the enemy lane comes back, so the wave just ends up freezing in front of the enemy turret. Which is pretty annoying if you're trying to keep the wave frozen in front of your turret. Many supports don't have extensive knowledge of wave management (though the same is true for many ADCs), so it's pretty frustrating when you see your support burn all their mana frantically trying to shove the wave only to go oom with the wave frozen in front of the enemy turret by the time you get back to lane.

FantasySniper23 votes

At that point, the support really is making a mistake.

Wimbledofy14 votes

yes and it's a very common mistake.

Zerolera6 votes

That's the only time I've ever been annoyed with the support or even jungler for taking CS.

If you play a role that doesn't require you to manage the minion wave you typically are not as in tune with it. Taking a CS is fine heck I don't even mind if the support takes champion kills, but if you're going to solo push the wave make sure it's at the right time.

That being said I've asked plenty of times for help pushing the wave after the enemy ADC and support go back to base and I've never had trouble with supports helping me do so.

Battlecast Sona3 votes

I think this more has to do with people in general just not understanding lane management. I try to never touch a lane unless my ADC is pushing or I know I can push it up (either huge creep wave or have enough time or jungle help or whatever).... But some people just always push because they know that hitting the tower is good, even if they don't realize they can't push it there.

I've encountered way more ADCs that push the wave so far up that we basically camp under the enemy tower. I find it funny that so many ADCs freak out about a few CS, but when a Shaco is creeping about they basically want to roast marshmallows with Bard on the enemy's side. So many ADCs don't even use their trinket early game unless a support with a pull is sitting in the bushes.

Trust me, a support main knows that it's not fun when the enemy is farming safely near their tower. They're the ones that have to frantically look all over the map while you focus on CSing because they're the ones that are normally going to die first to save you. Why would they put themselves at an even higher risk?

I know many other support mains, and we're all hyper aware of zoning and positioning on the map. Our roles are so confined that it is the one thing we generally can control. I've never met a support main that mindlessly pushes waves, want to know why? Because our fate is heavily tied to how well you do in lane. Love it or hate it, most of us hate it though. That's another reason why I don't believe this myth of support mains mindlessly pushing waves. Self preservation.

The reason why so many supports may push a wave is because that Draven and Blitzcrank are going to take advantage of the fact that you're not in lane. Supports do not have the best wave clear generally, even support Morgana, so that whole wave with the ADC is going to hit the tower. She's going to want to stop that from happening so your team doesn't lose a tower and she doesn't want to die or waste a flash to protect it. Tanking the wave is only effective if your ADC is nearby, and for some it's just simply unviable. The wave will reset anyways.

As a side note, people please stop leaving your supports to defend the tower if you can help it. Most cannot effectively do that, and the ones that can do need to clear the wave. So like OP said, stop chewing them out.

When I'm playing someone like Nami all I can do is try to thin out the wave a bit before bracing for impact and praying that the flimsy season 6 towers don't give way.

I dunno.

I kind of enjoy playing support/jungle and having the laner ping fifty times when they just respawned at the nexus.

In a way it does kind of validate you in knowing that yes you are playing with a child or pure idiot, otherwise there is that unknown to worry about and supports must like to worry. I honestly want to do personality profiles on all of the different role mains and see the results, for science and possibly for school.

IcyPepper14 votes

From what I've seen, there's two types of support mains:

Those who are nurturing and intend to multiply the team's effectiveness, not caring about solo carrying.

And there are the sadistic f*ks like me who realize that the support gets to decide who lives and who dies in a teamfight, and silently evaluates everyone for when the time comes to pass judgement.

SomeLink4 votes

I'm perfectly fine being type 1 if I can.

Type 2 is saved for people doing not that great yet demanding I aid them because obviously my shield will save you when you 1 v 5.

But there is a type 3. It's the "fuck you. I'M THE CARRY NOW." You know, the one you save for adcs that try to micromanage you "ward here" "save your mana" (when you are keeping the enemy away from cs). The ones that bitch about you taking kills even though they got ks'd by tormented soil or the likes.

I was so happy to get to mid-Platinum MMR last season in Ranked. Few players cared if I took CS they would have missed from their lane so long as I left it in a good position for them when they returned.

I could hold or shove waves when my ally was dead, help them push to tower when we killed the enemy laner and hold their lane when they were roaming without any fuss.

Are you sure that was your ADC?

GhostOfShrimpmas8 votes

A guy I play with who mains ADC likes to buy sweeper. I asked him why that instead of wards, and he explained that his reasoning was that, with sweeper, it's harder to tell at a glance when he hasn't been helping with vision than when he has 2 wards sitting on his trinket, and he kept playing with noobs who want the adc to ward.

IcyPepper13 votes

and he kept playing with noobs who want the adc to ward.

Oh the irony.

Laugh because people like him (the adc, not the poster) exist.

Cry because item 3363 exists for this very reason and he still didn't use it.

I actually had a Graves adc call me a terrible support because I was csing while he wasn't even in lane. Not even pushing, just last hitting.

'Wtf, you have no idea how to play support, you're awful!' '??? What? I'm just last-hi-' 'SUPPORTS ARENT SUPPOSED TO HAVE ANY CS'

Even if the ADC is there, if there's dozens of minions attacking our tower, I'm going to waveclear them lol. Sorry mr attack damage carry but our turret is more important than your 12 CS.

Last game I played, the enemy Jinx started berating her Nami for taking 1 cs in all chat, to the point that she just stopped playing the game and was laughing under her tower the entire game. Just your typical day in bronze-land.

MargaretThatcher3 votes

except that A LOT of supports know 0 about wave control and pushes the lane to the enemy tower

going "support" isnt standing at bot with someone and thinking that no one cant tell you anything becase ""duh they always blame the supp"" if you are doing poorly, not zoning and pushing the wave (not taking cs, i dont care) its your fault.

As well you can blame the adc for not cs'ing well the supp can be blamed for other things too

morris13 votes

This. When I play ADC I don't mind the support CSing while I'm gone, but if they use skills and keep auto attacking minions to push into their tower I'm not ok with that.

DarkRitual2 votes

Sometimes it's okay for them to push a wave. If you're catching a wave in bot lane and the entire enemy team shows/teleports top, by all means push that bot wave hard. It will force the enemy to either forfeit a lot of lane pressure top, or risk you pushing through to an inhib. Of course, knowing when to back and help your team top is also important.

Battlecast Sona4 votes

the problem is that people see higher level supports do it once in this scenario (push scenarios or with a kalista, for example) and assume that it's good behavior all the time. In some ways LCS gameplay is detrimental to lower level players because they are seeing good gameplay habits without understanding why they're good or when to utilize them, so a lot of times they end up hurting.

Why are adc mains such cry babies? i played adc and carried my team, if i'm not there take cs. if i am, don't.

NA Boards - The only place where people remind each other basic stuff.

Come on, guys. You really think people come here for basic game knowledge? No offense though.

Alleo3 votes

Inb4 EUW boards are worse about than than NA boards....and about 3-4 months behind NA boards on topics.

http://boards.euw.leagueoflegends.com/en/?sort_type=hot

But what am I saying it's almost dead anyway.

rtbf2256182411 votes

What do you mean? The difference between EU posts is that things that deserve 100+ upvotes get it. In here, almost any word biased towards the majority is upvoted to the "Best" section. And i don't understand how EU Boards are behind 3-4 months. I wasn't even talking about the EUW Boards in the first place so i don't get your point anyway.

Alleo3 votes

Because if you look under the "hot" section in the EUW boards you see posts like "smite should be automatically set on jg" and " how does crit chance work" which were posted on here 3 or 4 months ago. And if everything under the "hot" section has >10 upvotes and 4 or 5 comments....that means the boards are not active...hence why I said they are dead.

And you "best" section is 90% posts around a year old..

Kinetika3 votes

A European that thinks they're better than Americans? What a novel surprise.

rtbf2256182413 votes

When did i say that? I said the Boards on NA are ridiculously littered with basic stuff like "If i have 0/3/10 then it doesn't mean i'm feeding." or "You can play almost any champion in whatever role you want. It's not trolling, we're entitled to our own choices."

I haven't seen these kinds of posts on EU for a while now.

Also NA < EU is practically set in stone already. I don't have to come here to descend into childish assertion of dominance.

When u CS when they are coming back u push the lane..... I mean i can understand if the wave is at ur tower and the tower will take the CS but to purposely push the wave is a waste unless ur ACTUALLY** just **last hitting and NOT Sitting there auto attacking everything.

Malicious Fury3 votes

When u CS when they are coming back u push the lane.....

Not when you last hit the minions only. The OP is basically saying the turret will last hit them if you don't. You aren't pushing the lane if you last hit them before the turret does.

Also if the enemy minions aren't near the turret it's still ok to last hit them. Why let them die and not get any gold?

I love getting V-pinged when I'm using item 3097. Then I feel obligated to give them a LoL lesson.

lofi n chillhop1 votes

To be honest, the thing that iritates me the most is, that the only times I ping them not to take cs is when I can see that they're making a mistake in doing it. because the support SHOULD be cs'ing if it's meaningful. (for example, I ping them if they need to recall in order to arrive in lane in time, or I ping them if they're pushing a wave that would freeze)

but the thing is.. it's pointless to even bother ping, because everyone assumes if I ping (and I only ping once) that it's because I'm BM and an asshole, not because I'm actually seeing something in the game state that they aren't.

A Liberal3 votes

If you are pinging for more complex reasons than "go here" "stay away from here" or "you're about to die" you should probably type it in chat. I know even one caution ping when I think I am just fine csing and I can obviously see that I am in no danger of hanks ext. Is really tilting and I'll probably assume you're a typical ADC.

Also, try and let people make their own choices too. I know I hate when my ADC is like "you need to do xxxxxxx" like, I don't tell you how to play the game? You don't tell any other role what to build or what to do?
